I saw this the other day. HBO’s last week tonight with John Oliver had an episode on rails and PSR. I couldn’t believe a topic like that made up a whole episode on John Oliver.

Maybe they are all good investments, but just not big or liquid enough.

Who cares. Everyone has their opinions. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate hearing about his previous endeavors. I’ve heard worse things spoken about a fund manager who funds a school for charity on here lol.

2023: the year of cash and t-bills
Whensthepaintdry? replied to Gregmal's topic in General Discussion
@Dynamic that’s an awesome record! I would be really interested in hearing about any moves you may of made and why. You have written some great posts on selling. I wish I had gone back to them before making certain sells last year that I’ll probably regret. -
Did you drop PCYO because of the lack of buybacks?

2023: the year of cash and t-bills
Whensthepaintdry? replied to Gregmal's topic in General Discussion
28 percent. Mostly due buying big dips in Google and Amazon. I sold MSFT and Meta a little early. Added to brk, mkl, boc, and oxy through out the year in dips which all have lagged. I bought psh this year which has done well. Finally sold China stocks at a loss not sure if I want to jump into that suckfest again. -
It’s weird there is so much doubt in Greg and team. Or maybe I just have blind faith. Buffett has said that he has handled the operating businesses far better than he ever had. Greg has been allocating good chunks of capital at BHE. Berkshire’s Apple investment first came from Ted or Tod. If anything maybe we will see better results than the last 10 years. Not to be negative, but it’s not like Buffett has hit it out of the park other than Apple in the recent past. Maybe the rest of the team has been operating with a hand tied behind their back.

Ha, ya I guess the good news related to China and taxes is my tax loss is just getting bigger!

I don’t think that’s how it works.

What Is the Best Investment That You've Ever Made?
Whensthepaintdry? replied to Blake Hampton's topic in General Discussion
In my early 20s I built a small rental for 90,000 it now makes 50,000 a year on abnb. That rental allowed me to invest in other real estate and free up all other income to invest in the market ever since. -
I have been thinking about this a lot. Energy transitioning, manufacturing coming back to America, manufacturing south of the boarder increasing, North American oil consolidating further, seems like North America Rails are becoming an even better place to park money. Gates fund, Ackman, TCI all seem to be voting that way. I have always been content with my rail holding through BRK and have admittedly not learned in depth about the space.

Adsk is one that has always sounded promising.

I tried to argue once that it’s pretty much a staple now, but I was quickly corrected.

Berkshire vs Brookfield vs Fairfax

Thanks for the response. Impressive how it has turned out and how you both caught that rates would help one and hurt the other. -
Berkshire vs Brookfield vs Fairfax
Whensthepaintdry? replied to CanadianMunger's topic in General Discussion
These were awesome posts to read through. I’m Curious, what made you pick BAM other than youth for the 10 year hold? Especially since you nailed the Fairfax call so well I would of expected you to go with Fairfax. -
Is aci spread not attractive enough? It seems like a safer bet.
