The National Bank analyst raised their target from $3300 to $3450.  There is quite the disparity now between different analyst targets.

Do you know what his earnings estimates are for this quarter and year?

I have not seen the detailed report.

NBF is at $60 for the quarter and $185 for the year.

SiN knows this but just to avoid having other people going down the wrong track like I started to, the target share price is C$3300 to $3450, wheread the $185 eps is surely in USD, so the ratio is not 18-19, it's 13. Sounds reasonable, if unlikely (i.e. it is a 39% increase from today's price.)

I like his bite sized investment daily’s, I find them sensible. So my opinion is contrary to the popular negative opinion , maybe he has changed over time.

On Tilson: performance over time is what matters.

People's character changes over the years, or maybe he was having a particularly bad or good day...all that stuff is subjective.

What's his long term performance record?

His performance likely was poor because he had to close his hedge fund, due to hedging (not too different to Fairfax's lost decade).

I am not claiming he is a good investor. You can be a good journalist but a poor investor for example.

BRK and other insurers including Fairfax jumped at the open today. This is on top of the jump yesterday with Fairfax.  I don’t see any general insurance news that could have caused this.

it’s purely market shifting - on days chips are down money go to fairfax and the likes

Concur, same thing for pharma. Over the past 5 days the S&P is flat, the Nasdaq is down 1-2%, the SOX is down over 10% while the two pharma companies we have are up 6+% and 9+% over the same time period. It's rotation.

I've mentioned to my son that in the short term, market sentiment can make the independent thinker look like an idiot, or a genius. I was an idiot the first 6 months this year but, miraculously, I'm brilliant now. (tongue firmly planted in cheek)
