Must be a slow news day, got to love the 24 hour news cycle. If you want to read up on something that matters that isn’t getting any publicity anywhere look up the recent developments in Myanmar. More productive use of your time than caring about college kids protesting.

Where are most people relying on for news, I feel like i'm in some over bias shelter where all my news seems like shitty AI driven or overly political stuff. If a guy just wanted facts on a situation where would he look.

I personally get my non-obvious non-North American news from The Economist. Unlike Businessweek which is very North American centric in terms of coverage, The Economist is very global. Think WSJ vs FT.

It is always a week late, but not that I need to act on it.

Tough to beat Reuters for what you described.

Columbia cancels classes due to anti-Israel protests.

If the protests were anti-Israel, it wouldn't have been anything new. The reason they protested is because apparently, according to these students & teachers, Columbia owns stakes in weapon manufacturers and are indirectly funding genocide. Still seems like a somewhat valid argument, here's where things get funny, no, Columbia doesn't own any stake in any weapon maker, what they own is a $277k worth of a BlackRock corporate bond ETF. This is laugh worthy, who would imagine a school as big as Columbia, which is also known for it's 'prestigious' business school would not see the stupidity here? All the teachers & the student's parents own it too if they are invested in any broader market ETF.

You will not see peace until Hamas is 100% destroyed.

Naive statement cubs. I think most people in the broader west have never seen or experienced j!h4d first hand and think of terrorist organizations as a 'building', which could be bought down and replaced. This is a huge misconception.

There is a demon called Raktabīja in Indian folk lore, the specialty of these guys is that if you wound him, from every drop of his blood, a new Raktabīja will come out.

Hamas, & most terrorist outfits as a matter of fact are much the same. You can never completely destroy them as much as that would be nice. Once the old leader is killed a new one will take the mantel, such is the unfortunate reality, the seed was long sowed, only takes a little rain.

^^^ Well, that is just your opinion of course.

Your's is an equally naive view of history. You decapitate the leadership and attempt to win the hearts and minds of the fools that put them in power. Unfortunately, you must obliterate the leaders, and humiliate the populace - so they have little choice.

Witness NAZI Germany, Fascist Italy, and the militaristic Imperial Empire of Japan.

All leadership was decapitated. The population was humiliated. Then they realized the enormous mistake they had made with these leaders. Only then could those countries be remade into neighbors that others could live with. This victory requires unconditional surrender.

IF Hamas is not obliterated - then this war will go on forever.  Israel is not going to let that happen this time around.

Check the Jordan Times against Al Jazeera, for a pretty good take on the Arab street; The Times of Israel for the other side. Just keep in mind that the nuttier Israel gets, the harder the Israeli propaganda will be.

The Israelis are about to experience a world of hurt for walking away from the peace talks. Expect the IDF to be branded as 'baby killers', with lurid pics of naked dead/starving Gaza infants at the feet of actors dressed in IDF uniform. Expect the IDF to be branded 'out of control' with lurid examples of units made up of particular sects committing war crimes in the settler communities. Expect comparisons of the IDF vs the German Army under the control of Hitler; they didn't act either, and it wiped out millions of the Allied/Axis population - the same as the deliberate famine/disease in Gaza. Then add the new IDF casualties from the Rafah offensive, where the intent will be as much maiming as possible.

Whatever ones view; this worked very well during the Vietnam era, and in 2024 the targets will be Israeli students on American campuses (new hostages). Served in the IDF before school? baby killer. Haven't served yet? draft-dodging coward. How long before the parents of those privileged students make themselves felt?

They need a way out, and the sooner the better.

I don't know what you are getting all excited about in your SUDDEN "analysis", on this fine Sunday evening.

You just have to read The Economist (a Western newspaper) to figure out all you need to know about IDF, its government and its mistakes.

And yes denying a population food and water, is a 'weapon of war', that sadly both Tel Aviv and Hamas are fond of using. Less exciting and "picturesque" Gulf War of 1991, but call a spade a spade.

IDF follows orders from a government, which Bernie describes it best. Bernie is clueless about economics, but nails it with run-of-the mill azzhole like Bibi.

Hey, the Israelis want a couple things - simple enough.

- Return all hostages, including all Americans

- Turn over the Hamas terrorists that planned the attack

Until it's done, Hamas and supporters are doomed.

Let the news rags print whatever they like.

WTF are you talking about?  Millions of dead in Gaza?  If Israel acted as Nazi Germany, you would not have had this war, there would have been no Arabs in Israel, Gaza and West Bank since 1967.

What a bozo Bernie is - that clip is idiotic. Not a peep about hostages, nothing. Not a word about thousands of missiles being fired into Israel, nothing. Not a word about Hamas using their own citizens as human shields. Not a word about the Egyptians blocking the Palestinians from entering Egypt.

It is not Foreign Affairs, BBC World News nor The Economist.

Don't look for great analysis:  on one hand the Israeli did this, on the other hand Hamas did that etc.

It is a clip is about a person expressing a strong opinion and dislike about Bibi.

Naturally, filled with his biases. Right or wrong.

A great many combatants and civilians died during WWII simply because there was nowhere else for them to go; carpet bombing and getting shot for refusal to fight being the norm. Not a lot different from a Palestinian trapped in Gaza today, and an IDF conscript balking at comitting a potential war crime in Rafah, because they were ordered to.

Not the message the propagandists have in mind.

Keep in mind that as long as the Gaza war remains ‘over-there’, the western world can just wring its hands, and send weapons/money. Different story when it’s ‘here too’, on campuses all over the world; and much more effective when the targets are the kids of the wealthy - with disproportional influence.

It is a simple matter to divert Israeli bound artillery shells, rockets, bullets, etc. to the Ukraine which desperately needs them; and straight forward to ‘delay’ gasoline and money flows as well. It is also hard to prosecute a strike for any length of time with limited reserves, and a horrific daily burn.

Over the weekend, Hamas offered peace and an end to the war; the only reason the war continues today is because Israel chose to walk away in favour of a strike on Rafah. Hot pursuit is defensible, whereas this? …. not so much.

Cut off the oxygen, and even a warlord can only live for so long.

There is no serious "offer" when you do not release hostages. That is a clear non-starter. Even you understand that.

What has Hamas exactly offer, besides bombing a humanitarian crossing?

Bibi has to tip-toe, manage and balance the most racist part of his Government (worse than himself), that want Greater Israel and full extermination.

I don’t like Bibi, but I ll give him this: He is between rock and hard place.

But sometimes the choice is easy: when Hamas does stupid things, than siding with your own extremists is an easier pill to swallow.

The extremists on both sides want one thing, convert everybody on the fence to their hateful ideology. And that takes death and destruction as jet fuel.

Too bad,  the press reports otherwise ...  https://ca.news.yahoo.com/israel-gaza-live-updates-idf-074412294.html  Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, said in a statement the group has called the prime minister of Qatar and Egyptian minister of intelligence "and informed them of the Hamas movement's approval of their proposal regarding the ceasefire agreement."

Peace?  What are you smoking?  Hamas has claimed time and time again that it will fight until Israel ceases to exist.  There was peace on October 6th, so if Hamas is interested in peace, why did it attack on October 7th?  Hamas has never shown that it wants peace.  It wants a break in hostilities until an opportune time to strike again.  https://www.answering-islam.org/Terrorism/peace_concept.html.  Read the Quran, and read the history of Islam.
