The entire market cares about the head of BLS!!  If you cant trust the numbers we are no better than a banana republic.  Dictators do things like fire people who report numbers they dont like. 

 

I keep bringing up "cult" because there's not a lot of alternative explanations for supporting absolutely ridiculous things for no other reason than because Trump says it.

Nobody trusts the numbers.  That's why they are always revised - sometimes by huge amounts.  By the time final revisions come out they are forgotten history anyway. Those numbers mean nothing to me; don't affect my life, investments, or anything else.  Again, no idea how some folks make it through each day pondering this stuff.

Everybody trusts the numbers!! Thats why they move markets and are waited on and reported with baited breath.  They are the most accurate numbers available.  If nobody trusted them Trump wouldnt be freaking out about them. 

 

And they do affect you.  They affect everyone indirectly. The jobs numbers, the GDP numbers, the trade numbers, etc are what drives interest rates, policies, trade, currencies and investment decisions.  

 

This is an investment forum.  You cant honestly say economic data is meaningless and should be ignored.  Especially when its only because the numbers are bad and Dear Leader is upset.

The President, who I'm sure didnt even know her name before today, only doesnt have confidence in her now because the report made him look bad.  He didnt say a word after the last 2 reports. 

 

Everyone should care because the accurate reporting of data is a cornerstone to both investing and policy.  Removing accuracy for loyalty destroys trust in the entire system and is exactly what dictators do.
