I like it, but I think the venn diagram of people who bitch about "socialism and government handouts", and the people that support this, have some ironic overlap.

However, I feel like your above comment doesn't show the full extent of how things can be broken.

 

In Canada, courts will now sentence criminals to lesser sentences because the appropriate sentences will result in their deportation. i.e. if you commit a crime, judges will deliberately give reduced sentences, just so that those criminals can stay in the country.

 

This isn't a theoretical thing. It now happens over and over again in Canadian courts.

 

(Which is ironic in many different ways, because presumably when politicians decided that criminal immigrants should be deported if they have certain sentences, it was because they thought that Canada would be hurt from having those people in the country.  But instead, the court system has decided to go easy on them to keep them in the country.)

Why would Judges want criminals to remain in Canada?  Where is the due process for the criminal's victims and the Country's lawful citizens?

I’m not American, and I’m not in America enough to know what the feeling is on the ground.  I’m speaking of the UK where I live and where I am from, the issues are similar though, there and here.

 

We’ve went from a homogenous society where everyone was British and had broadly the same values, to parts of the UK which have been balkanised and sectarian.

 

This is Birmingham, ‘white’ shorthand for British, nobody voted for this.  In fact we Brits have consistently voted for less immigration and got vastly more instead:

 

 

Edit - and to preempt the expected replies, British tradition and culture is inseparable from British people.  The tradition and culture originates and is given form by British people.  It’s not about disliking other ethnicities or races, but about preserving what it means to be ‘us’.

Cubs not sure the last two paragraphs are worth your time to type repeatedly, I never think about much in the over-the-top-absolute terms like you do.  For instance today I just went out for an hour road cycle with friends while my home is being re-roofed by (of course) those undocumented types (I asked the foreman...all 9 of his workers today are undocumented) ---- while at the same time I'm not for open borders and know few if any (none is the actual figure) who are.  My re-roof cost $3000 some 25 years ago, today is is about $16,000...and if it wasn't for the un-doc's it would likely be $30k.

 

Life is great...if you can stand it!

I just don't see how enabling masked "agents" to pick people up off the streets, throw them in a cage for an indefinite amount of time, deny them access to representation, then deport them to a random country, all without evidence or accountability...I don't see how that is at all OK. I don't care which person-in-power is doing it...Bush, Obama, Trump etc. 

 

What's to stop anyone from calling a tipline and claiming your neighbor is an illegal immigrant? Having some ICE buddies pull up in the middle of the night, throw them in an unmarked van and poof they're gone. It's not just possible, it's already happened. Zero accountability and zero oversight. 

 

If you want to solve the illegal immigration problem, compromising the very principles of the nation you are trying to "protect" is not the way to do it.

Nothing stops your neighbour claiming you are illegal, if you have proof that you are a citizen it doesn’t matter what they claim.

No one who enters any country illegally should be allowed to stay, there is no need for representation except to prove you are legal resident or citizen.  And even for legal residents, I believe that can be revoked for any reason or no reason.

How would you feel if one of the illegals working on your roof committed a heinous crime against one of your town's citizens tonight after he packed up and left your job site?  Curious, would you think that even if your Roofer had hired legals the same crime could have been committed?  Is there no more to the issue?

Again Cubs, the standard white guy isn't anywhere around in this business and hasn't been for decades in my location.  Saving money?  I could absolutely care less, the last thing on my mind E-V-E-R.

Reds again and again and again, you will not find anyone to re-roof your home who doesn't employ illegals.  I'm a pretty physical guy, even at 71, as I'm 5'11" and 180 lbs and every three days still do an upper body workout that includes three sets of 20 pull ups.  But re-roofing a house?  Can't go there.  I did use pully's and cables to cut 5 large trees recently, that my neighbor and I enjoyed.  Running a chain saw?  No problem!  

 

But I'm too fragile to frame and roof houses, and the contractor I called is legal, his Forman is legal, but from there it goes south.

Who suggests that you do your own roof?  But that doesn't address the issue.  Of course not all roofers employ illegals (don't know where you got your statistics but around these parts there are plenty of small roofing companies that have used the same *entirely legal* help for years).  But I won't hold you to skirting the question.  To the main point, neither political party has wanted to do anything about the issue, nor has any prior President.  But here we have a President who does.  And a lot of whiny, non-sensible, antagonists who complain solely for the purpose of personal hatred.  They literally complain about some of the same, nutty stuff they originally supported and don't even care how ridiculous their complaints appear to most of us while their leadership literally dies a slow death.  Were I a Republican, there could be nothing better happening at the moment.  Yet I'm not; don't support parties or politicians, only the right (legal, moral) side of issues.  But yes, here and now one party is very much on the right side of most issues and one party is not.  And that is truly sad.
