  1. Yes, why is it that rich people seem to always have horrible taste? Somehow if you're rich everything in gold and gaudy seems acceptable. Because they pay high priced designers who have a blank cheque to do it.
  2. http://www.businessinsider.com/martin-zweig-pierre-penthouse-discounted-2013-12?op=1 Lavish to say the least.
  3. I have an inkling that if that Vice Chairman title has anyone on it, it will probably be somebody whose name ends with "Spiers". It would only make sense. Cheers! I'm still in. ;D
  4. If the prospectus shows a "Vice Chairman" and his name is Charlie I'm putting every penny I own into it. ;D

What in particular keeps you away? Capex needs, debt?
  6. I have the same problem too. Any alternatives to Gurufocus with 10 year data? Free? Low cost? Reasonable cost? The library version of Morningstar has 10 year data and, IMO is a much cleaner interface than Gurufocus. Morningstar has 10 years on their valuation tab and a condensed 10 years on their key ratios tab. Does anyone know of Canadian libraries that have an resources? The library in our small town is very limited.
  7. Yes, she also "allocates resources" to her projects. ;D I also worked at a company that changed the phrase, we missed our target to, we have an opportunity in the future. The idea was to keep away negativity. It just made us roll our eyes. Be straight up with everyone, it seemed patronizing with the new language.
  8. My wife works for a software company and they've gone from industry specialized groups to "pods". She's gone from a business analyst to a "customer care specialist" or something stupid like that. ??? She knows the ins and outs of her clients businesses about as much as they do but CCS is more customer friendly and sounds appealing to customers.................I guess. HR tried to make her change her LinkedIn profile from Client Manager to CCS, she didn't ;D
  9. Former architecture student turned custom home builder. I left my last year of school to work for the guy I would eventually build homes with. Now approaching 40 I'm looking to finish school but possibly on the engineering side. I don't have the get up and go to contract much longer and I don't have the managerial/customer relation capacity to run a company (as small as it may be ;D ). So while my wife has a great job she loves, I'll take the opportunity to finish school. I've been taking Autocad classes via distance education to brush up on my cad skills and colleges and universities only offer cad and revit, nothing else (that I've found anyway). With one exception. My former college instructor teaches Microstation and I think he may also be the developer for it. I saw that on his Linkedin profile. I kind of remember that from my college days and none of the students were even remotely interested in taking MS since we all knew cad was the standard. As for why I invest my own money and have a passion for it, I think it's like someone mentioned above, figuring out a puzzle. I like to know why something is undervalued and why other people don't (or do also). I was originally turned on to it but the crappy mutual funds offered. Even as a relative newbie to money I knew there was something wrong with the system.
  10. One annoyance for Gurufocus is the data is only for U.S. companies. To access Canadian or International you need a premium membership per area.
  11. That's great. Such a simple idea. I hate scrolling through edgar. Thanks. I like the layout by filing type they do. What do you use gurufocus for mostly? I know it wasn't directed to me but I like the 10 year financials and ratios all on one page.
  12. Moonwalking with Einstein currently, about half way though. Just finished Chris Hadfield's An Astronaut's Guide to Life. I loved it. It was part motivational and part biography. I think I finished it in 2 days. Since my wife bought my a Kobo for Christmas, I'm reading a ton more. Manual of Ideas is next up.
  13. I always wondered about that since some seem to use that number interchangeably.
  14. Hidden question: Please share all your material ;) Let me know if you want more but all the other letters to partners are the ones found most places. Valuewalk for example has them halfway down the page but start in 1959. http://www.valuewalk.com/warren-buffett/ Marketfolly has a compilation. http://www.marketfolly.com/2010/08/warren-buffetts-partnership-letters.html
  15. Hidden question: Please share all your material ;) Should have read, February of 1958. The heading is "Second annual letter to partners". I can't for the life of me remember where I got this format since it's in MS Word. BUFFETT_PARTNERSHIP_58-2-6.docx
  16. The earliest I have is June 1958 and I thought that was the first.
  17. 39 Looking at the big 4-0 in May. Still wondering if I have a shot at pitching in the big leagues.........
  18. Porn. Wait, what? Investing industry, right. I like investing on the internet too.............. I like the dynamics of the insurance industry, like lots of other CBF members here. The idea of collecting money while quite possible never having to pay it out and being able to invest it while you wait. Thanks to twacowfca and gio in the Lancashire thread when you can find a company like LRE. I also have an interest in the metals and mining industry but have only just started looking into that. I think you really need to find that honest owner operator that has their money on the line too. I think Altius is a good example that.
  19. You can try, but I fight dirty. Pull hair, poke eyes, groin stuff. Whatever I gotta do. You are a true Costanza.
  20. I build custom homes for a living and I say the best recommendation is one from a friend or family for contractors. The best and most reliable contractors I've found in my years don't advertise and are usually pretty busy. And yes, that kitchen renovation that will increase your home value by $40k as claimed by the realtor, never includes the upfront cost of doing the job in the first place. Those costs are usually a wash for kitchens and bathrooms. Do the renovations and upgrades for you and your family not for a possible buyer in the future.
  21. Now it's time for the feats of strength!
  22. I think he's joking that you must be older than 44. ;D
  23. With a cute young lady pushing the cart just like the golf course. :D
  24. Rob Ford.
  25. I have one on the Semiconductor industry that hopefully you find useful. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7ZQujnVzj_9RjZHSjdTaUpzS1U/edit?usp=sharing
