eclecticvalue replied to dcollon's topic in General Discussion
I wanted to get involved with his contests. -
That's what PE funds should do in theory. Instead their model is to cut costs and increase leverage. Although KKR and Blackstone wanted to run their organization similar to Berkshire Hathaway.

You can add Ackman to the list.

They are great for small-mid cap companies, when it comes to getting updates on certain issues. Most of the time I read the transcripts, since it is faster to read rather than listen for me.

In the trailer, does it show Burry with a stripper? Because...... I can't imagine it happening.

Hi everyone, I found about this tool today. And I wanted to share it with you all. It is called https://www.twomargins.com/. It is annotating sec filings such as 10-k, 10-Q, and 8-K. You can add your own commentary and read what other users have written.

Have you thought about creating a website where people can share their own case studys. So you can add it to the website including your own. Obviously you would approve it to ensure quality standards.

Very good idea for a website and I think it looks good so far. I wish you put up more case study's from different investors. Can people contribute?

How Google Works - Eric Schmidt & Jonathan Rosenberg
eclecticvalue replied to TorontoRaptorsFan's topic in Books
You raise an interesting point. I wonder if those books can become a subgenre in the self-help/business section. Called "what didn't work" "Failure". Just throwing it out there. -

Trump and the american politics sideshow
eclecticvalue replied to yadayada's topic in General Discussion
It seems like it's better to build a big business and then buy favors from politicians to influence change. I mean Trump outright admitted to it. -
I want to buy the book. Should I get the regular or illuminated edition? Are the annotations insightful or did it distract you?

Happy Birthday!!! Thank you for starting the board! I have found a tremendous amount of ideas because of this board.

What happened to this board?

Thank you longinvestor for posting that. So over half (64% to be exact) of the ideas have done well. Which is not bad. -
What happened to this board?
eclecticvalue replied to watsa_is_a_randian_hero's topic in General Discussion
I have the opposite reaction. When a stock I'm interested in doesn't have a thread already created here (or has one with few replies) I like it even more. If you want to invest in the Apples and General Motors of the world you'll never have a shortage of people to discuss your ideas with. But I thought this board is for contrarian-value investors. I read stuff on seeking-alpha and feel the way you do, the more popular it is, the more I won't invest in it. But if this board is really like that then maybe I should find another forum? Ironic, Eh! I remember a board member data mined the investment ideas section. Came to conclusion that the ideas that have less replies tend to outperform. -

Jiro Dreams of Sushi or The Search for Perfection
eclecticvalue replied to giofranchi's topic in General Discussion
You can eat at Sushi Nakazawa instead! http://www.sushinakazawa.com/ He is a disciple of Jiro. And from what I hear Nakazawa is way more livelier. Also it is cheaper. ;D -
Personally I would go with a degree in accounting since the subject matter will help you more with value investing. With accounting there are many paths that are open to you. You can go to the Big 4, corporate finance, or financial services. I think corporate finance is underrated and if you do work in corporate finance at least you can trade your account with no problems. Unlike in the investment management/financial services industry where there is an employee trading policy.
