  1. It's a pretty good day for insurance companies not named Fairfax - chance they close in the green today?
  2. 1339 usd so far - that's basically $29 Billion USD. Not a lot of risk in my book
  3. I always buy like this - one after another lower and lower and lower. The lower it goes the more fills, you never know when it will stop going down. I don't have any interest in waiting around for one big order down low that may go completely un-filled. Just got 20 at 1366. And 1359! And 1354! So far, $1339 USD is the lowest I have been filled on By the way - I sell like this also. Look at this screenshot from last week - each tiny red line is a sell order. It's like a red cloud
  4. The double tops are winning! Long live the double tops
  5. Who knows who cares - the whole stock market is down today. It's a bear market baby
  6. I got a fill at $1388 USD so far this morning - how low we gonna goooo and another at 1386 and another at 1376! and 1374.52 and 1370. 1369!
  7. You must be all over it then. Big money! Free money!
  8. No, I'm saying 50% yield sounds shady
  9. That sounds shady
  10. Thanks, I got part of the way there on my own but I appreciate the more thorough answer. edit: I'll think of it like a checking account I suppose. no interest but ready to go
  11. So I can earn 4.3% on a genuine US dollar or zero percent on a stable coin with some risk of blow-up and donate my 4.3% interest to a stranger. What is the real reason $200 billion has moved to US Dollar stablecoins? Is there a tax avoidance angle for someone here? edit: I guess I can understand why someone in a country without a stable currency or high inflation that does not have the means or permission to access traditional financial markets would use a US dollar pegged stablecoin and forgo the substantial interest they should earn in USD. So it seems possible that the growth of US dollar pegged stablecoins and their look-though ownership of US treasury bills backing those coins is largely foreign and kind of similar to foreign holdings of US treasury debt in substance.
  12. I don't know why stable coins are important or needed but that part of the crypto summit stood out to me as well. A lot of talk about the US Dollar and keeping it at the center of everything. I'm not an expert on Stablecoins obviously - but do holders of, say, Tether USDT forgo the substantial interest they would earn on US dollar cash? Effectively donating that interest income to the owners of the Tether Limited company?
  13. Me too!
  14. I looked into this and it isn't much of a success story. APR Energy wasn't really sold in its entirety. Atlas / Poseidon made a deal with Fortress to sell certain assets of APR (likely the most attractive subset of assets -850MW worth of turbines) for $350m, leaving Atlas with some APR assets and liabilities. APR's management team had already left to join Duos Technologies Group (DUOT), which is providing the management services for the assets, "New APR Energy LLC," for Fortress. Apparently Fairfax had indemnified Atlas for certain losses in connection with the deal where Atlas/Seaspan took over APR from Fairfax. In 2024 and 2023, Fairfax had to send over $46.3 million to Poseidon/Atlas for these losses. I'm not sure if final disposition of the remnants of old APR will result in more loss payment by Fairfax or not. "Fairfax remains a counterparty to certain indemnification and compensation arrangements related to the acquisition of APR Energy which occurred in 2020. During the three and nine months ended September 30, 2024, the Company received nil and $42,500,000, respectively (2023 – nil and $3,836,000, respectively) from Fairfax for the settlement of an indemnification claim related to losses realized on sale or disposal of certain property, plant and equipment and inventory items."
  15. Well $15.50 was the take-private price per share. The carrying value has probably been marked down by either distributions or it is just marked to some conservative multiple of ebitda, cash flow or other income measure. edit: last year they marked it to $1.7 Billion - 10x 2024 expected earnings or 8x 2025 expected earnings. Then this year they termed it, "$1.9 billion - approximately 7x 2024 earnings" - so obviously earnings came in a lot better than expected
  16. Investments in associates is also listed
  17. Interesting that Poseidon closed on the sale of APR Energy - I guess I hadn't been paying close enough attention. Not surprising though.
