  1. What Malone companies has BRK bought shares of?
  2. Their investment decisions have been straight up dismal for years. Prem and HW seem to have no idea what they're doing from an investment perspective.
  3. Their equity investments have been a disaster since around 2007.
  4. I'm also a fan of Tim Ferris' podcast.
  5. Has Theranos' revenue numbers ever been posted anywhere?
  6. Seems like this company has the potential of being the poster child for a VC bubble.
  7. Agreed, Paypal has a lot of be worried about with Stripe.
  8. Are you guys all getting that same issue? Each add (on the top and bottom of the site) is loading twice, and outside of the page container. Example screenshot is attached. I was going to chat Sanjeev directly, but the private message functionality doesn't let you add attachments.
  9. http://a1.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/photo/2015/0927/warrenbuffetsuhjersey.JPG Not sure why Buffett is apparently friends with Ndamukong Suh, who is one of the biggest assholes in professional sports.
  10. I think sites like Gazelle, but in different markets can do well. They buy phones and ipads from people, and re-sell them at higher prices. Yes, people can sell products on places like eBay and Craigslist, but they take the headache out of having to deal with those platforms, and deal with potentially shady buyers. People can sell their phone to them without having to find their own buyer. So they act as a broker, instead of a true marketplace. Would take some capital to buy products from people, but what other industries that currently have marketplaces would more of a brokerage model work?
  11. Ya, it's decent. I paid out for a year and plan to keep using it. There seem to be alot of free resources list in the thread above so probably worth giving those a shot. I tried the 10 day and really like it. Can't take the plunge and pay for the whole year yet. I like Headspace, and have subscribed a couple times (and then cancelled after a month). Most of the meditations are nearly identical to one another. I'd like to use this more often, but don't really want to drop about $100 a year for it. Would be better if you could purchase different meditations/collections a-la-carte, and not on a subscription basis. I understand the subscription is probably more $ in Andy's (the app creator) pocket, but it just seems like an odd thing to require a subscription for to me. The 'Calm' app is also pretty good, but also based on a subscription (albeit at a cheaper price than Headspace).
  12. The hope is it goes down more.... but the fear is like all these years, the relatively puny deals we might have now also might not last long or go deep enough... the 52 week lows set today will be staring at us for a long time even though it was virtually impossible to take advantage of those lows this morning. I hope china doesn't do anything again tonight...another 10-20% or so of decline there and names like BABA,BIDU etc are in deal territory. well the market is nearly back to this morning's levels at the moment, and could obviously continue to go lower - especially with the enormous amount of machine-based trading out there.
  13. Shitty Scottrade's website seems to be down, so I can't buy a thing. >:(
  14. I used to be like that for a long time, but eventually figured out that I just wasn't drinking very good IPAs. Like most types of beer, there is a wide range in IPA quality. I've come to love hops, but IPAs (and Double IPAs) that are brewed well, don't contain the same bitter taste people often associate with IPAs. As I've gotten older (almost 40), I spend more $ on better beer. While there are of course plenty of overpriced beers (as well as great beers you can get for low prices), you often do get what you pay for. BeerAdvocate is a great resource for discovering new beers. It's a community of thousands of people - not just the opinion of a couple people (like some other beer sites). Haven't had a bad beer anywhere near the top of their rankings: http://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/top/ Also, This article is good - The best brewery in every state: http://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/the-best-craft-brewery-in-every-state-in-america Usually these types of articles are pretty bad, but these guys really did their research. List is pretty spot on for all the states I'm familiar with.
  15. Pretty big craft beer fan/drinker here. Big IPA fan, but switch it up a lot. I'm lucky to live in Vermont, which is the home to several of the best breweries in the world (Hill Farmstead, Lawsons, The Alchemist and tons of others). I brew beer on occasion (with varying success), but tough to find time now with 2 kids.
  16. Fake reviews are definitely a big problem on Amazon. It's usually not hard to tell which reviews are fake, but it adds time onto the shopping process trying to decipher through fake reviews.
  17. Amazon is just not good at designing their own products/hardware. Even the Kindle, which is their only technical product that's been real successful, isn't a great product. It's value comes from Amazon's vast eBook library. The operating system is still pretty bad.
  18. Amazon is pretty damn good at this. Maybe not for TV shows yet, but I assume they'd get there for fireStick users.
  19. Thought this might be interesting, and maybe even spur some possible business ideas. What products or services do you wish were available, but haven't been able to find? What products or services do you use frequently, but aren't overly happy with? What problems do you have that you haven't found a good solution for? - This is for any areas of your life - not specifically investing.
  20. I own it in my low-P/B portfolio. I have some shares purchased back in the high 5s and some puts sold against it at 6.50. That being said - I don't know much about it. I don't do any research on these companies other than buying them under book value. Do you run funds? People are paying you to put no effort into this?
  21. I've had How we Learn and Make it Stick on my Amazon/Kindle shopping list for a while. Which one of these would you recommend the most?
  22. I'd personally want to pay more to have my own room, but I think think there may be a market for this. Sites like Couchsurfing.com seem to do well, so there are a lot of people out there that don't mind staying with people they don't know. This will work well for other events like concerts, where hotels fill up quickly.
  23. I like there being non-investing-related threads on here.
  24. I don't agree that his approach is broken. Lynch's overarching principle (which so many investors don't do) is to invest in things you understand (ie, your circle of competence). The odd thing about Lynch was he essentially just owned an index fund - he often had over 500 stocks in his portfolio at a time, which is crazy. He also ran his fun during a stretch where the overall market had a great run - then he got out. I think he's a great writer though.
