  1. I have MS Office on my Mac and used Word and Excel for years w/out any issues. Over the last couple years I'm mainly switched to using Google docs. Pages and Numbers are good as well, and now they're part of iCloud so you can access them through icloud.com if you're away from your computer.
  2. Maybe check Sears and K-mart's annual report. Landfill locator: http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/StoreLocatorView?storeId=10151
  3. Lack of a retina screen. If it had a retina screen I'd consider it (and not sure I want to wait until the fall until it's likely released).
  4. I'm in the market for a new computer and am trying to decide between a 13" macbook pro + a larger external desktop monitor, or an iMac + a small laptop like a Chromebook for portability. The iMac obviously has a larger screen and better specs for a lower price, but I'd likely want some sort of laptop for portability. Not sure I really need 2 separate computers though (although the Chromebook is sort of a tablet with a keyboard). The iPad is great for portability, but I think I'd ideally want something with a keyboard (and that you can use a mouse with) for work-related stuff. My current computer is a 2007 15" Macbook pro that seems to be on it's last legs (it's especially slow running Mavericks). I guess I could potentially hold onto that and use that when traveling (or just outside of the house) - maybe it would be faster if I clear out most of the HD and strip it down to a pretty bare-bones computer, but the 15" size is still larger than I'd prefer for traveling. Thoughts?
  5. Are you still happy with the chromebook after spending some more time with it?
  6. I ended up going with a 47" LG and love it so far. Happy I went with the 47" over the 42".
  7. DeepValue, you're making statements regarding your small social circle, and not a broader view of the country/world. I'm not quire sure where you live - maybe there's a bit of a different stigma about week in your area. I live in Vermont, and weed is quite commonplace around here in a wide variety of social circles. I really don't view it any differently than drinking alcohol. Your statements are like saying 'not respectable person out of college drinks alcohol'.
  8. Sales Engineer on the custom web development team at a company that makes websites and software for the auto industry. The company just got acquired in a $1 billion deal (I unfortunately hadn't been with the company to have any equity/options).
  9. (In case it's not obvious to anyone, that site (Daily Currant) is a satire site like The Onion - but it never seems to actually be funny like the Onion.)
  10. I rarely smoke these days, but I don't agree with this. That's like saying no respectable person past college drinks alcohol. I drink plenty of beer but see no real reason why alcohol should be legal while pot isn't. I think in 50 years people will look back on this era (when weed eventually becomes fully legal (obviously with the same type of restrictions as alcohol) as similar to end of Prohibition. There are a lot of countries where it's been legal for a while without any real problems.
  11. I used to live in Colorado (and was just back out there recently) and it's getting a little crazy. There are dispensaries all over the place now (and this was even before it was fully legalized). I really don't have any problem with it being legal. It's not like it's hard to get otherwise, and it's really no worse for you than alcohol (its arguable better, as it doesn't have nearly the same effect on your ability to drive). I'm just not sure how all of these places will compete with each other. Doesn't seem like they'll all be able to stay in business. There are places in Denver (such as on Broadway) where there are literally 2-3 dispensaries on the same block. It's like having 3 liquor stores on the same block.
  12. I don't watch a ton of tv but like watching movies and sports.
  13. What kind of TV do you guys have? Im looking for a new LED LCD TV (upgrading from an older 720p 37" tv). I'm leaning toward either LG or Samsung. I don't need a smart tv, as I have an Apple TV. I'm between a LG 47", a LG 42" and a Samsung 46". Within my budget (trying to keep it under $700 U.S.) I can generally get a 42" with 120hz or a 46"/47" with 60hz (sticking to these brands). Might be able to get a used LG 47" 120hz. How much of a noticable different is there between 60hz & 120hz for a led LCD? I don't do any gaming but I watch a decent amount of sports. How noticable is the motion blur on most 60hz tvs? Would I regret the 42" and want something bigger? Our living room is pretty small but who knows if we'll move into a bigger place in a few years.
  14. I'm 37.
  15. I do. I like most of the interviews with CEOs. Gives some great insight into some companies.
  16. The Ronald McDonald house. They helped us a lot when our first daughter was in the NICU, and are helpful again with our 2nd daughter (who was born last Thursday and in the NICU with several real worrisome issues).
  17. Seems odd. The new mac minis are more powerful than my old macbook pro and I don't have that issue. You use 30 tabs at a time? :o Seems like that would slow down any browser.

    Good One!

    That's awesome.
  19. fwiw, Dells are pieces of garbage.
  20. I have a 2007 macbook pro that is pretty slow these days and I'm running out of hard drive space. Will prob get a new computer in the next year or so. I'm thinking probably a macbook air, but need to decide on a way to store more of my content online, since I think they only go up to 250GB. I prefer a laptop & a large monitor over a desktop computer, as I like to bring my laptop to coffee houses, and even from my office space (ie. spare bedroom) into the living room. My iPad has replaced the majority of my computer use though.
  21. Is this going to result in Prem getting involved to the point where he's in the kitchen cooking steaks every night? ;) -I ate at the Keg in Denver a few times when I lived thereand thought it was pretty good. Don't know a lot about the company though.

    WTF!

Sham Gad used to be a writer on Cramer's thestreet.com/realmoney.com, along with Lenny Dystra. Great bunch they hire over there.
  23. He certainly makes/made a lot of awful decisions for a Genius. Genius or not, I think we was a pretty weak CEO, and MSFT did pretty well despite of him instead of because of him.
  24. Let her do most of the talking. -Be sure to post some pics on here so we can all judge her. ;)
  25. I think that is quite unfair. Prem and other value investing greats have earned their honours over the decades because they aren't emotional, but rather, quite rational in the face of Mr. Market's emotions. That is how value investors succeed. I don't think it's unfair. I know he's had a solid long-term track record. I just don't think that should make him immune from criticism. It's fine that people gave him leeway for mistakes in a couple year period, but it's going on about 6 years of poor investing results now. If they had just put their cash into an index fund for the last 6 years Fairfax would be quite a stronger and larger company. And as I said, it seems like some people on here's friendship and close connections to Prem and Fairfax is clouding their ability to look at the company like an outsider. I'm a Fairfax shareholder. I want them to do real well. I just can't honestly say I haven't been disappointed with a lot of their decisions lately.
