  1. @gfp, Damn good humor! If I had a like button to press, I'd press on it!
  2. @Saluki, I have to say, you're just my kind guy! Yes, it could be a lot worse, including "Wein, weib und gesang", also ref. Charles Mungers comments about leverage, liquor and ladies. I think it's called being a bookworm.
  3. @Xerxes, I curse you [J/K], now I need to buy that book, too! - - - o 0 o - - - Since the war started last year I have been wondering what has happened to that enormous combination of a gas station and construction work in progress called Gazprom and its financing, because there is a lot [many billions of USD] of western financing on the ongoing pipeline constructions. Are these debt obligations being served or what?
  4. There is already a strong reaction from the Baltic states related to the presence of Russian nuclear warheads in Belarus, combined with information of the presence of Jevgenij Prigozjin in Belarus, too. It's for sure concerning.
  5. I ordered the 7th Edition a few days ago, based on what I have read about it on Twitter and Substack.
  6. Thank you, @gfp, I looked it up after your post confimed the connection : Wikipedia : J. B. Pritzker & Wikipedia : Pritzker family. I personally think there's a lot of truth to that speech. It seems impossible to build a civilized society based on law and order by the use of simple and primitive cruelty, suppressing basic human rights, especially if the population does not care about it, and let everything pass, ref. above. Christ, what a Hellhole Russia has become.
  7. Is this Prizker a member of the family that sold Marmon to Berkshire? Anyways : Here about how to spot an idiot, the relation between idiocy and cruelty, vs. idiocy and kindness, idiots ability even to become elected President etc. Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker’s “How To Spot An Idiot” at a Northwestern’s graduation.
  8. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/lars-christensen-422793_i-går-talte-jeg-med-god-russisk-ven-han-activity-7079346670341091328-Y6ka?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop Translation from Danish to English : "Yesterday I spoke with good Russian friend. He said something very important to me about the situation in Russia: "Never underestimate the Russians' willingness to deceive themselves". The words fell as we talked about the events of the weekend and how the Russian people would react to them. We agreed that the events have weakened Putin's reputation among the Russian population and my Russian friend was articularly surprised by how many people had spontaneously taken to the streets of Rostov and cheered Wagner's entry into the city. But when we talked about what happens next and how the population would react, we agreed on what I have often said - namely that the Russians will not take to the streets against Putin, but they will not take to the streets for Putin either . Russia is NOT headed for a civil war in the sense that large parts of the population will join a rebellion. What Russia may be heading for is repeated coup attempts, where different parts of the power structure will go to war with each other. But the population will continue to tell themselves that everything is "normal". "Never underestimate the Russians' willingness to deceive themselves" - tells everything about what decades - or rather centuries of dictatorship do to a population's ability to think independently. In totalitarian regimes, not thinking about politics becomes a way of survival. PS for natural reasons I can't share my friend's name. But he is not in Russia anymore. In fact, virtually none of my Russian friends or acquaintances are. Those who can still think are long gone. They will not give up thinking independently, and then they cannot live in Russia." - - - o 0 o - - - I personally think there is lot to the above. And thinking about it in that way is really depressing.
  9. Todays daily dose - naturally : "DAY TRADER : n., See IDIOT." Warning! : This book is straight out dangerous!
  10. I don't know, @Dinar, I still have a feeling that we are only observing the top of the iceberg. Would I trust any of those two men who were primary actors over the weekend? No, certainly not. I consider them both thugs and criminals. They both have blood not only on their hands, but all over themselves, they both don't give a damn how many lives of young Russian or Ukrainian men are lost in this madness. Remember the sledgehammer video? I did not read an amnesty to Yevgeny Prigozhin in the subtitles, more the opposite, I think [, but does that even matter anything?]. - - - o 0 o - - - Do you consider the translation OK here, @Dinar? Thank you. - - - o 0 o - - - Aleksandr Lukasjenko has postponed his speech to tomorrow.
  11. For entertaiment, the video clip from the episode in the weekend with English text translation.
  12. The book arrived today. What @HubbadaPow described above about how one relates to this book is quite precise. It's a gem. Here is just one short example : "IDIOT : n., See DAY TRADER."
  13. Personally, I think it's fair to say, that what @Viking has posted just above related to the similar last post by @Gregmal has - not only some - but a lot of merit. It is about North America not in any way being dependent on energy sourcing from Russia, while it in the past [long term and short term] has been totally different for Europe. Please feel free here to send your rotten tomatoes and eggs my way. So much for being - in the first place - naive - later - naive and dumb. The change to get this right for the long haul going forward for Europe - is - by its inherent logic and its nature - quite brutal for about every European citizen, exactly as brutal as it is for Russia.
  14. @Xerxes, I think we should stay careful not to oversimplify things here. The below explanation compared to yours above seems to me to be just a bit more granular here, and with shades and nuances :
  15. It seems like the western confusion is rising all over the place in MSM here Sunday morning in Europe over what actually happened in those 24 hours or so from Friday evening European Time, which to me actually is a bit comforting making me feel less dumb. Weird and crazy Saturday, having the two main Danish TV News channels streaming simultaneusly on a laptop during the whole day, listening to one of them, shifting between them regularly. I still can't get all the bits and pieces to add up to a coherent and consistent picture of things. Perhaps it is just because it's about that chaotic hellhole called Russia, where normal logical thinking is ... the name of a village in Eastern Sibiria. The only thing I feel fairly confident about is that this was not a non-event. Maybe the coming days will provide clarity to some degree, ... maybe not.
  16. Nothing of what has happened since last evening local European time to the time of the U-turn by Yevgeny Prigozhin this evening about 200 kms south of Moscow adds up in a meaningful total picture to me.
  17. Kuppys working hypothesis - It's killing me!
  18. Impressive this morning early following how things are escalating, Twitter being in front of the Press on running basis about an hour or so, all the time. Please don't confuse my use of the word "Impressive" as if it is something positive. I mean : A coup d'état confirmed on state television by Putin and a civil war in a country with nuclear weapon capacity - what can possibly go wrong?
  19. What is it with CoBF members posting in this topic, - then deleting their posts - "unfortunately" after getting some posts quoted by other CoBF members before deleting them?
  20. How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb? Answer : Count them yourself! : "1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs. 53 to flame the spell checkers. 41 to correct spelling/grammar flames. 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"...another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp". 15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct. 156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy". 109 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb group 203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb group about changing light bulbs be stopped. 111 to defend the posting to this group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this group. 306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique, and what brands are faulty. 27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs. 14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's. 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group. 33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too". 12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy. 19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three". 4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ. 44 to ask what is a "FAQ". 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs". 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again..." Off topic : I follow a carefully chosen Danish Twitter account for about a couple of years now, or so. It's soo forthcoming and wise, what comes from this person every day on Twitter on about everything related to life and about everything in general, that it is to me stunning - from what I understand from the account info this man has been working in retailing all his active life, now retired : Today : Little advice in the summer heat for those who have difficulty falling asleep. I have started arguing with my wife before bed. Because then there is cold air between us! (Never slept better ) #pjank - - - o 0 o - - - Take it easy!
  21. The whole complex related to the listed Swedish companies involved in the Swedish CRE market is still evolving day by day. It's impossible for me to keep up by posting in this topic on what's going on in detail. For me, the purpose of this topic is to share, while focusing on long-only investment opportunities for the long term. I'm not anywhere near yet, considerig risks versus price. I have for any purpose already ditched SBB, ref. my post above of June 11th 2023, but I'm not any longer the only one speculating about accounting fraud related to IFRS accounting for investment properties for SBB : SBB Press Release [June 22nd 2023] : Comment on the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority´s investigation of SBB´s application of international accounting standards. - - - o 0 o - - - Likely, my next post in this topic may end up being about Wallenstam AB [WALL B.STO] and its CEO.
  22. @Luca, Off topic : The situation at Mount Everest actually isen't much better, with more traffic, and that being unstainable going forward, because the climbers doing the try not paying the full costs related to the climb, or should I say climb attempt! National Geographic [last updated May 20th 2022] : Trash and Overcrowding at the Top of the World, & All that's interesting [April 22nd 2023] : Why Mount Everest Is Littered With The Dead Bodies Of More Than 200 Fallen Climbers. Again, unsustainable business model.
