  1. India just edges past USA despite host nation’s valiant effort (T20 Cricket World Cup is ongoing at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York) "USA fans were treated to a valiant effort from the underdogs. Adam Hunger/AP" https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/12/sport/t20-cricket-world-cup-india-beats-usa-spt-intl/index.html "[ Despite being denied another historic victory, the USA can certainly be pleased with their efforts in defeat. “I’m really proud of the bowling unit today,” USA captain Aaron Jones told the broadcast after the game. ]"

  6. Not of concern to anyone that Digit ended last week at Rs.340 which is precisely 25% (Rs.68) higher than upper limit (Rs.272) of its IPO range. That should be a gain of over half a billion to the Fairfax book value.

  10. Wall Street lands on India, looking for profits it can’t find in China Alex Travelli Mumbai, india The New York Times Published May 31, 2024 https://www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/article-wall-street-lands-on-india-looking-for-profits-it-cant-find-in-china/ ... (a rare surprise of a refreshing confession) " Mumbai has been India’s commercial hub for eight decades, but it was relatively unfamiliar to global finance until the past two years. Now North American pension managers, sovereign wealth funds from the Persian Gulf and Singapore, Japanese banks and private equity firms are clamoring for a piece of India’s growth. Old hands and novices alike can rattle off reasons India’s rise is inevitable. " ....
  11. People expect better than SUCH senSHITnalism. Had Modi swept a landslide like last time, it would just add to confirmation bias of highly educated West Washed Brains that Modi is dictator of a failed democracy which they will continue to BELIEVE even now.
  12. Great observation! Going forward, accordingly, we may pretty much assume the fee to be about 20% of the gains (Not 15%). However, the current discount to BV is too wide. Let us say the discount gets down to 10-15% after a few years of good performance. Fee to be paid only on the BV gain while shareholder will have a higher market gain on narrowed discount.

  16. I notice the acknowledgement of their mistake as a clerical error for which they got fined - "Ratio 1 was inadvertently recorded as one CCPS for 2.324 equity shares, as against the correct and agreed upon conversion ratio of 2.324 CCPS for each equity share of GDISPL, which has now been recorded by way of the JV Amendment Agreement." "The IRDAI by way of its order dated May 2, 2024 has levied a penalty of₹ 10.0 million on our Company. Our Company has paid the foregoing penalty, however, this may adversely affect our reputation."
  17. Western folks might be unaware that both Vivanta and Ginger are part of the TATA group. Tata's IHCL is India’s largest hospitality company including the iconic Taj brand. https://www.ihcltata.com/press-room/taj-ranked-as-India-strongest-brand-brand-for-third-time/ Media screams crony on Ambani and Adani because they are from the state of Modi but they never talk much about Tata. The media will talk about Indian economy being run by state expenditure but the Indian government is divesting and selling business assets to private enterprise. They recently sold Air India to Tata. Connecting the dots, Tata's Air India had recently announced developing a connecting hub at Fairfax's Bengaluru Airport. https://aviationweek.com/air-transport/airports-networks/air-india-develop-connecting-hub-bengaluru Tata is the largest conglomerate of India. TCS New York City Marathon has been sponsored by Tata's TCS since 2014. https://www.espn.com/new-york/story/_/id/9759292/tata-consultancy-services-new-nyc-marathon-sponsor-8-year-deal

  21. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4689725-fairfax-financial-compelling-investment-opportunity-for-decades-to-come "Did you know that Warren Buffett and Prem Watsa both started Berkshire and Fairfax at the age of 35 years old? Berkshire was started by Warren Buffett in about 1965 when Warren Buffett was 35 years old, while Fairfax was started by Prem Watsa in 1986 when Prem Watsa was 35 years old. Similar to Charlie Munger being a mentor and investment partner to Warren Buffett at Berkshire, while less well known, Tony Hamblin was the mentor and investment partner to Prem Watsa at Fairfax. This is also where Hamblin Watsa came from. Coincidentally, Charlie Munger passed away in November 2023 while Tony Hamblin passed away in October 2023. It is very unfortunate that the investment community lost two bright stars in just two months."
