Guest Dazel Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I always like to know what Brian Bradstreet is doing....thx Dazel.
cwericb Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Seems like last week was a Black Friday sale for FFH, but a week early. Bought a little at $348 and wish I had the money to have bought more. But congrats to those who filled their pockets below $350 because it could be a while before we see another opportunity like that again.
Ross812 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I bought three times as much Fairfax as I wanted at $346 and then $340 becoming a first time Fairfax shareholder. I have since sold the extra 2/3 of my position because I'm not ready to leave that much money in Fairfax when Intel and Chesapeake preferred are going back on sale! My experience with FFH has been phenomenal thus far; no wonder this board is named for them ;).
FrankArabia Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Ross, we're partners in Intel. I have a 10% target allocation on it. i'm at 6%+/- at the moment......
Ross812 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Ross, we're partners in Intel. I have a 10% target allocation on it. i'm at 6%+/- at the moment...... I'm at about 10% right now. I usually buy in steps and dollar cost average in every time it goes down 10%. I start with 2.5% -> 5% -> 10% -> 20% (I hope not with Intel, at $18.30 its going to get really nerve wrecking!)
FrankArabia Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Ross, I'm a tech newbie so I don't have much of a sense for what they do though i'm learning... but by my math assuming declining sales for the next 3 years and lower margins, my calc still shows this company as fairly valued..in a nutshell, i'm assuming ROE of 10% which is significantly lower than their historical average....I get this by slashing margins by 50%.... as they're still the dominant force in (albeit declining) PCs and data servers, they still hold the keys to a decent cash flow generator.... if it goes down to 15 or even lower, i would be a even more happy buyer....
Vinayd Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Any idea into the price drop again this morning? ...down to about $356 CDN.
A_Hamilton Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Any idea into the price drop again this morning? ...down to about $356 CDN. Morgenson article in the NY Times. http://nyti.ms/UPURVh
LowIQinvestor Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 We just bought some Fairfax at $351 and change. End of month index liquidation sale!? Slight discount to book value we figure...
racemize Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 gains in RIM should help book value this quarter, though there is Sandy...
SI Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 According to the MSCI website, today is the date of change. I don't know enough to talk about when this selling pressure will fade and how many closet indexers there are out there left but the volume that has gone through over the past few weeks has been high enough to account for more than what the analysts have estimated to have been known sellers.
LowIQinvestor Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 This is awesome. Picking up more at $347 and change. Nice volume.
ourkid8 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I sold out of JNJ to increase my position by 66%! I am really hoping Prem is repurchasing stock at the current price!!!! (I will continue to add when this is a discount to book) Let's hope the dividend this year is $2/share (His minimum payout) and the remainder of the return of capital is in share repurchases. Tks, S
FrankArabia Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 lets hope these shares go down more....i picked up only a small portion the first time around....nothing better than for the price to sink makes my job much much easier...
wknecht Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Pretty close to where Brian Bradstreet was buying http://www.canadianinsider.com/node/7?ticker=FFH FYI, Brian Bradstreet was buying during the downturn
ECCO Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Bought some cheaper than what Brian Bradstreet paid for his. Xmas gift.
obtuse_investor Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Just picked up a few more units under 345... Part of me wishes they cut the dividend due to sandy and unrealized losses, so I can load up a lot more units.
Ghost Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 picked up some shares below 345, less than what Brian paid (348) Nice xmas gift.
ubuy2wron Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I bought some as well had order at 343 went mkt cuz it got to0 close. I put orders on this name well away from the mkt cuz I can not watch it all day long. Its surprising how often I get filled on both sides.
BRK7 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 someone sold 604,900 shares at the close. that's approx $206 million.
FrankArabia Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 maybe Prem is getting scared and liquidating his position slowly.....leaving us small retail guys to hold the bag....
ubuy2wron Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 someone sold 604,900 shares at the close. that's approx $206 million. Ya the last ten seconds was interesting.
ECCO Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 someone sold 604,900 shares at the close. that's approx $206 million. I guess the selling pressure will be over now that this block is sold.
wknecht Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Just an observation, but it's strange, FFH closed at 341.18, FRFHF at 352.02, and FFH.U at 361.52. I never really track the three quotations but would expect them to be a little narrower than that. An unusual end to the day I guess.
