They could create a monster TPL from it. An irreplaceable asset that ever goes out of style and going to beat inflation. Edited yesterday at 12:17 AM by Spekulatius

Most SWF's are from trade surpluses or budget surpluses. That's why they are heavily weighted to oil rich nations. This idea that TikTok would go into it - where is the money to buy TikTok coming from to put it into the fund? It's not like Bytedance is just going to hand over the company when they could sell it. And every week that goes by with it off the app stores reduces value.

Gregmal Posted yesterday at 12:40 AM Posted yesterday at 12:40 AM I do think a wealth fund makes FNF release much more likely.

Like, it basically says the market's valuation is average, except for tech and financials. And tech, considering its size, is growing insanely quickly with super-high margins right when the world gets transformed by the creation of AI. In fact, it feels like it undersells the positive impact of AI on non-tech companies, if they're only trading at average valuations. So it suggest that the broader market is average to cheap.
sleepydragon Posted yesterday at 01:55 AM Posted yesterday at 01:55 AM Where the money come from? Perhaps from selling the stakes of fannie mae? also, they can mark up all the gold bars Fed owns and put them in it?

LC Posted yesterday at 02:15 AM Posted yesterday at 02:15 AM The conflict of freaking interest here is massive. I wouldn't want Elon touching our nation's money. Dude's #1 skill is promotion, same with Stumpy. Fine if it's private money but get outta here with public funds.

Xerxes Posted yesterday at 02:26 AM Posted yesterday at 02:26 AM I meant to post this few months ago and create a dedicated thread on sovereign funds. Forgot. I guess this thread is a good home for it.

I honestly think it would be much more effective to make earnings between $40k-$250k tax free. Above and below that, tax it. Above you don’t need it all and below you need an incentive to work harder cuz it’s not hard to make $40k. Let people at least have a shot at working their way into some prosperity. The current scam system basically keeps everyone middle class stuck.

Marc Rowan (CEO of Apollo) has great views on fixing taxes and reducing deficits at same time. It's pretty smart view.
