Personally, I am a little disappointed with this pick. I was hoping President-elect Trump was going to name Barron or Ivanka as AG, but as they say, elections have consequences.

From today’s WSJ article: “Trump’s Plans Complicate Outlook For Trade” 

 

“Investors are scrambling to figure out where to put their money across emerging markets while bracing for potentially disruptive policies under the new Trump administration.

 

India could be on the winning side of Trump policies. The country is already booming and could gobble up U.S. market share when tariffs send Chinese competitors in retreat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who referred to Trump as “my friend” in a congratulatory post on X after the election, is considered to have a good relationship with the president-elect.

 

“India is the highlight in emerging markets,” Dorson said. “It is a key beneficiary from uncertainty around China and supply diversification out of China,” he said.

Gaetz is the perfect person for the DOJ job. They went after him with a bogus case. They went after Trump with several bogus cases. He knows where the bodies are buried. This is a guy that knows first hand how corrupt the DOJ is and the dirty tactics they use against political opponents. He certainly doesn't care what the DC swamp thinks of him.

 

When you take over a corrupt organization, you need an attack dog, not a lap dog.

So people who live more comfortable lives vote more to the left? Nothing new there.

 

This election was won based on the economy, people voted with their wallets. Poor people will vote for change from the current goverment that created high inflation and increased povertry, while those who have it good vote for status quo.

Yea New England, and especially Massachusetts, pretty much embody the liberal elitist culture. Reasonably conservative with their own finances, super liberal with their ideology, incredibly generous when it comes to allocating or redirecting OPM, all from the comforts of a gated community or fenced in property with large "no trespassing" signs.

There are way less gated communities in MA than in the South. Come to think about it, I don’t know any and I lived there for quite some time. It’s quite a well run state, compared to NY and CA at least.

 

I think they made a huge mistake with the progressive income tax. lots of rich people are not bothered by 5% taxes, which is the same than many southern states, but they won’t pay 10%.

 

Also, almost no VAT on booze.

I’ve always been a big fan of the way things are done in New England. New Hampshire especially. It’s just getting a little too left leaning, which always seems to be the natural progression.

New Hampshire is weird - no state income tax, and not that left leaning.  MA had a Republican governor until last year.  Yes, MA shot itself in the foot with the politics of envy, just as NY & Chicago.

He’s in a unique situation where he’s new to stocks and just got a huge lump sum of cash. I don’t mind helping people but also am not trying to have him totally reliant on me forever, so part of the process is getting him comfortable and accustomed to the idea that stocks are not just fluctuating numbers but ownership in a business and one of the ways I like to do that for people is with businesses they know and interact with regularly. No one is getting rich on PEP but no one’s losing their shirt. No interest in fixed income and cash is a waste of time and he’s already got a lot of it in need of being deployed.
