I sent him this Munger classic. Of course it's familiar to us but not as familiar as it should be to the outside world. My assumption is 1) if he imbibes these lessons he will walk into his first class way ahead of the game; 2) He won't read it. I have sent this to people I was sure would get a lot out of it, and never once did I get positive feedback. Maybe Charlie's style is too difficult for people? It's a mystery to me. Has anyone else had this experience? Anyway, here it is, I post it in homage to Munger, who changed my life. https://fs.blog/great-talks/psychology-human-misjudgment/ Expand Changed my life too. His speech "How to Guarantee a Life of Misery" influenced my decision to stop drinking alcohol. It amazes me too that more people don't emulate Buffett and Munger and use their principles to increase their success in life. When I discovered them both it felt like the key to an unfair secret advantage. Many people I know say they don't have time to read, but endlessly scroll on social media, wasting their lives. Changed my life too. It amazes me that so few people use Mungers mental models. There are some books out there, but these are not very good. These models are not that easy to understand, not that easy to use regularly, they offend the paid teachers in their authority and the value of the models is in the using of them, not in the writing about them.

backtothebeach Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 It’s an easy listen because it’s the original speech by Charlie and you can laugh along with the audience at his jokes.

John Hjorth Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 (edited) I have just tried to find out how does that 'Share unlocked article link' work, and what's its limitations, terms [applied above by @gfp here, naturally only available for WSJ subscribers!] , by carefully studying all relevant places on the WSJ website, so far to no avail. So I ended up then firing up that pretty dumb WSJ support chatbot who diden't even have a name [ ], only delivering options about what to ask for, only able of delivering canned responses [ ], in the end the chatbot gave up, and asked me to type an email body text to a support crew member, promising me to get back to me usually within 24 hours. The e-mail body text from me : 'How does the share unlocked article link work here on WSJ? And what are the limitations for the subscriber sharing it and link users, respectively?' In the mean time, while we're waiting : 'Goodnight, thank you, and may your God go with you.' [Dave Allen], and may I add here ',and may your mouse become your candle light in your quest of obtaining knowledge and wisdom!, by providing you insights to all what's embedded in any text you study!' [Hint, hint, , ]. Please send me by PM your email address, if you want a copy of the WSJ article. I'll send it to you. Edited November 27, 2025 by John Hjorth
Charlie Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 (edited) @gfp Thanks for sharing! "When he discussed his legacy, he said he was comfortable with his accomplishments and optimistic about Berkshire’s future. “Once it’s built, you don’t need to be Warren and Charlie,” he told a friend. “What we have is a framework for looking at investments.” Happy Thanksgiving everybody! EgonKuhn Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 I think we need something like Spotify for all these magazine, Substack, Ghost, and god knows what other subscriptions. It's absurd to assume that the average customer takes out dozens of these subscriptions just because they want to read an interesting article every now and then.

It's actually a great idea, Egon [ @EgonKuhn ]!, For sharing articles here on CofB&F we could start a separate topic in the 'Forum Support' forum, located lower end on the Board Index, about how to share articles behind subscriber paywall without commiting subscriber infringement for the behind subscriber paywall articles assumed subscriber obligations.

gfp Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Sorry, I don't know what the specific issue was with the article but I tried to post a "gift article" link. It probably only works to bypass the paywall for the first several people who click on it and maybe an international IP address gets rejected - beats me. When I posted the article it had just been published so it wasn't available on an archive type site yet. It was a good article, at least for people like us who love these little details
MikeL Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Yes, i was able to access the article without subscription after you posted.
Spooky Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 He's such an inspiration. I hope I can be 1/10th as sharp as him at that age. Really missing all his wisdom these days.

It was a good article, at least for people like us who love these little details You don't have to be or feel sorry for that , @gfp, You did so with the best intentions to share with those CofB&F members not being WSJ subscibers, and while simultaneously staying a responsible WSJ subscriber, that doesen't infringe subscriber obligations. The mere concept of these suscription unlocked article links is in a resounding conflict with the mere concept of applying by paywall protected subsriptions to content for the purpose of selling more tickets, and at the same time using free subsciption unlocked article links to share by subsribers, to sell more tickets! -These main stream media outfits are some soul-less, opportunistic, unprincipled outfits, all while their employed reporters working hard to sell more tickets, by doing their very best to trash-talk everyone for being exactly so! It simply rises the questions : How many times can a subscriber share such links in a given, certain period, and How many times can each of such links shared be used by non-subscribers? No answers to that on the WSJ website! Edited November 27, 2025 by John Hjorth
CanadianMunger Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 So Charlie built the house he spent decades in? No AC? Knowing his obsession with detail he probably designed it to stay cool as possible. What a legend. Rest easy Charles T. Munger, and Thanks for Everything
schin Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 I have a few follow-questions for Charlie fanboys out there. 1) "He invested in hedge-fund manager Li Lu’s Himalaya Capital and smaller investment firms in Boston and Melbourne." I know of Li Lu and the Melbourne firm. What was the Boston investment firm he invested in? 2) I have the green ValueLine bins. Are the black ValueLine bins a different series or older editions? 3) RE: Consol and Alpha Metallurgical Resources -- would you say those were cigar butts? They both increased, but would never be touted as a long term hold. They were trades, eh?
