Alright. Moving to NYC end of the month. Anyone have apartment recommendations in FiDi? Would prefer something with a private outdoor, doesn't matter if its small.

Hah, awesome! I've got friends in Flatbush and ridgewood, if you're interested in either I could ask around. Nobody lived down by wall street when I was in NYC. But - hit up Parisi's for lunch. Some of the best sandwiches in the city at least back in my day. They're still around and presumably still legit.

Oh, and find somewhere and get a knish before they're all gone. The story of the knish is the story of 20th century NYC if you ask me!

Don't live in the financial district if you can help it. Even if (especially if) you work there.  Its dead on weekends except for tourists and there's nothing really down there.  Go somewhere interesting- even a 10 minute train ride will take you to lower east side, Tribeca, little Italy, etc.  Even Brooklyn. Get a flavor for the real NY - you won't get that in a brand new condo in Financial District.

What did you study at university? Do you not have a family? You don´t have to answer if it is too private.

I am a data science major. I have already been working for a subscale hedge fund out of college, been a year now. Moving to bigger firm now. No family here, moved to this country on my own when I was 19.

Haha, ty @John Hjorth. I think a lot of NYC's shortcomings are as much related to the sheer population density as is the politics. Haven't seen a city so packed since I left India.

I was in a similar situation starting off...they were technically here, as in location...present, but otherwise not relevant in my life, and it's such a huge advantage getting off the ground. Honestly, the less you have, the more drive and focus there is to go get something for yourself. You're gonna do quite well if you just stay focused. Dont let the punani get in the way either LOL

Alone the fact that you've now posted your origin here on CofB&F may possibly end up being of tremendous help for you, not that this to be understood as CofB&F are divided into national groups, but it always helps to get to know someone - at least  it can'r hurt.
