redhots Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Congrats Packer on the new fund! http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/keith-smith-and-willow-oak-asset-management-announce-the-launch-of-the-bonhoeffer-fund-300487909.html https://bonhoeffercapital.com/
slkiel Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Keith- It would be interesting if you would share the meaning behind choosing the Bonhoeffer name when you get the chance. We are excited about the launch and look forward to a great partnership. Many thanks to Keith, Rodney Lake, Mike Bridge, and Todd Peters for making this a reality.
misterkrusty Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 congratulation Keith, but why put a picture of Manhattan on the home page of a fund based in Rochester? makes you look like a zillion other funds out there
slkiel Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 congratulation Keith, but why put a picture of Manhattan on the home page of a fund based in Rochester? makes you look like a zillion other funds out there I think the idea was that it was a picture of the Empire State Building. Keith works at Empire Valuation and the name of the street for the fund is Empire. That being said, the website and presentation materials are currently being worked on, but we wanted to get a placeholder up there for the website.

Any reference to Dietrich Bonhoeffer?
Packer16 Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Thanks guys you have provided some great feedback on ideas and friendships over the years thanks to Sanjeev for starting the ball rolling here. The funds namesake is Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Quite an inspirational guy whose sharp & frank logic about faith and its impact on society and life in general has inspired the approach of the fund. Here is a great quote from Bonhoeffer that many value investors can relate to “We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.” There is nice book about Bonhoeffer that Jeff Moore found at the airport leaving the last shareholder meeting - The Story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer by Micheal Van Dyke.
