netnet Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Although I have my own ideas, I wanted to solicit ideas from this board on book recommendations for young professionals, undergraduate and older high school students. (Traditionally, I will send my kids and nieces and nephews book recommendations for the summer.) Last year it was Power by Pfefer and Influence by Cialdini.

Aurelius Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I'd recommend Victor Frankl's "Searching for meaning". It's short, but very good, containing some very useful life lessons. I'd also recommend 7 habits of effective people. It would be an advantage to read it (and use these principles) early in life.

Parsad Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Nope, nope, nope! Is this about a single title? If not, it belongs in the "General Discussion" board. Don't worry, I'll move it! ;D Cheers!
theasiareport Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Not really a book but I can safely say that the Steve Jobs commencement speech at Stanford had a big impact on my student life.
Haasje Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Anything recent by Seth Godin is probably quite interesting to them: [amazonsearch] http://www.amazon.com/mn/search/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=seth%20godin&linkCode=ur2&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aseth%20godin&sprefix=seth%20g%2Caps&tag=901827-20&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=7MNRX6L5ZNDIEIUF[/amazonsearch] Especially Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? How to drive your career and create a remarkable future and The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly? come to mind.
tede02 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I would highly recommend "The Signal and the Noise" by Nate Silver. This is an excellent book that I will be re-reading.
netnet Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions. I wound up with: The $100 Startup The Dhando Investor The Outsiders And Steve Job's commencement speech!
