  1. I'm not sure if this is the whole article or not. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-10-17/case-real-assets-buy-humilation-sell-hubris
  2. I may need to read Sleuth again. All I remember is stalking executives from companies you're interested in. Waiting in the lobby near coffee time and following them to their favourite coffee house and eavesdropping. Judging by the people who liked the book. I may have missed a lot............... :D
  3. Yep, I'm there now. If my wife wasn't as good at what she does (and obviously rewarded for it by her company), I wouldn't be able to transition to a second career. And yes, count me in the programming/software development as a second career..................hopefully. :D
  4. pornhub.................ahem, I mean Google.ca If you use Chrome you can have https://momentumdash.com It's pretty neat. A different background pic every day, a custom message (your focus for the day), inspirational message, to do list, local weather and you can add a list of frequently used links too. I really like it.
  5. That's something I hadn't thought about. Thanks for that. You would assume services would compare similarly across the province with the exception of anything that may need transport from the mainland.
  6. I knew of the cost but didn't realize the entire time involved. Not that it matters much to us. If we ever do make the move, my wife works in software and works from home. I also looked at the demographics and read that Nanaimo isn't as diverse as the lower mainland. (no international buyers to drive the prices up) A couple of years ago we thought about a place on Pender Island but the gulf seems like a world of its own based on what we found. Thanks nodnub.
  7. Not investment related but what would the reason a place like Nanaimo has escaped the bubble? We're always on the look out to potentially move west and Nanaimo has some beautiful homes close to everything and have a harbour view for under $600k. Is it the simple fact it's not on the mainland? Edit: in case anyone is interested, this is what $499k gets you. Ten minutes to Discovery Harbour and shopping. https://www.realtor.ca/Residential/Single-Family/17025284/4299-GULFVIEW-DRIVE-NANAIMO-British-Columbia-V9T6K4-Z4-North-Nanaimo
  8. Oh that is awesome. I follow them on Twitter but don't always follow their links so I didn't see that one.
  9. Couldn't have said it better! :-\ Kind of makes George Dubya look not so bad...................kind of.
  10. The West Wing taught me the V.P. is nothing more than a doormat. House of Cards taught me the V.P. is a key cog in the congressional wing and wields much power. But I'm Canadian and we have no V.P. So I only know what Hollywood teaches me. Which is 100% accurate. :D
  11. I didn't scroll that far yesterday. I must have just been lucky with page 610-611.
  12. I only figured that out while trying to help out here. :D But I saw someone post to Twitter that he said 615-616 as OracleofCarolina suggested. I'm also not a shareholder and don't trust Bigliar. pg 616
  13. I've got it, but you can go to amazon and search inside the book. http://www.amazon.com/Security-Analysis-Classic-1951-Edition/dp/0071448209 Click the "Look Inside" pic. Search "Jackson Martindell" and click on page 610. I've read it over once but don't get it.
  14. I thought the article said downloaded directly from the GE website? So this wouldn't include Edgar/SEC. Maybe we all need to brush up on our reading. ;D
  15. Buffett_Groupie said in another thread his son is looking for work. :P He even said he wants an internship. He'll mow your lawn for free!
  16. Let me also echo the sentiments of him working/selling himself without your help. Being given something doesn't mean nearly as much as earning it yourself. But I think he also needs to see the different options for himself. I worked retail for a long time and it gives you a different perspective on dealing with people and interacting with them. Spoiler alert: the customer is NOT always right. :D Maybe you'll be lucky and he will find a job in finance. But be prepared as a father. They will teach him there is a whole world outside of Berkshire Hathaway. Are you prepared for that? ;D
  17. Someone posted it to reddit's security analysis sub this morning. https://www.docdroid.net/cNUSmYz/khrom-capital-2015-letter.pdf.html
  18. This one that Ross812 put together is vote based. http://www.cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/general-discussion/corner-of-berkshire-and-fairfax-fund
  19. How well can he work with other countries when he needs to? Or maybe a better question is, how willing will other countries be to work with him?
  20. Move to Canada. If Trump gets elected Canada will have to build a wall to keep all the fleeing Americans out. #BrickingitforCanada http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/bricking-it-for-canada-1.3479184 Our UK cousins want to build a wall for us. ;D
  21. was that 7 years on top of the manufacture's warranty? No, the manufacturer's warranty is 5 years. And I mistyped the cost, it was $1300. They also wrap extras, if you want to call them that, into the warranty upsell. They spray a lifetime guaranteed rust proof on. So long as you have it inspected at Kia each year, it's covered. They also put the clear stone guard film on the front end.
