Some more Nintendo, increased the position by 10% today. Second buy since 2024.

I don't like Kash Patel, but shot gunning a beer with the olympic hockey team after winning gold makes him a bit better in my book. It's like W. Yeah he was a trash president and a war criminal, but the fact he seems like a decent dude to have a beer with (before his sobriety) is a postitive, not a negative. There's a lot of f*cked up stuff going on in this country, much less the world. We should take a few minutes to celebrate the good things in life. The olympics are a good opportunity to come together as a country. Shame it seems that can't happen this year, especially after such a great moment (beating the Canadians at hockey)

Nintendo for the first time since 2024

More Coupang.

I’d rather be early, average down, and underperform over the short term than miss out on long term winners. It has taken a while, but I’ve gotten to the right mental state over the past decade or two to do so. Probably part of the reason Tegridy “Value” LP will have better returns than myself, but something something lead a horse to water

More CSU

Good timing!

Thanks for sharing as always @Viking Sometimes I think 25-30% of my portfolio in Fairfax, even after making multiples of my original investment, is too little. You inspire me to write.

Public Company Share Repurchase-Cannibals
Malmqky replied to nickenumbers's topic in General Discussion
People (me) hate GM, I bet you make a ton of money off this. The valuation is going to be depressed permanently. Good job, wish Berkshire had gotten into this or GE. Id like to add British American Tobacco and Warrior Met to the list as future share cannibals. -
I too am anchored to BV despite Buffet telling us not to be. I've always had success buying around book, later 1.2x, and recently 1.3x. I suspect Berkshire outperforms the market for a few years at some point this decade.

CPNG and CROX LEAPS, CSU shares
-
lol @ Cathie Woods Fwiw, I decided against touching Berkshire. I would still rather own it than the SP500, so I'll come up with cash otherways to buy more CSU
-
CPNG LEAPS. Considering selling out of Berkshire and moving proceeds into CSU.

@73 Reds what are your thoughts on student loans? Do you view someone taking out $200k @ double digit APR for a bachelors in underwater basket weaving just as predatory as credit card APR @ 20%+? I bring this up because if we are going to cap interest rates on CCs, I think the same logic would naturally apply to all forms of lending, including lending done by the federal government (which I think it has no business participating in). Along the same lines, payday loans, etc? Where do you draw the line in the sand on what the government can and cannot dictate? Should the gov be allowed to ban companies from selling foods full of sugar?
-
I think government needs to stay away from dictating lending rates, etc. Let the free market do its thing. If CC rates *must* be capped however, same needs to happen to pay day loans, which are far more predatory.

Equities investments + float are a great business...if you have a good team.

Railroads come to mind. YouTube, probably other parts of Google. FICO despite the recent discourse.
-
Not bad. No complaints with that here.

Yeah, I'd like to see this as well, I think it is the most optimal approach. I wonder if some folks rely on the dividend to live however? You can create your own with options or just by selling occasionally of course. But with the stock being cheap, I'd like buybacks, special dividends, etc. personally.

I believe California has the most Billionaires in the US, and like the fifth most in the world. I think your point still applies, because there are so many I doubt they’ll accept it sitting down either. The weather is nice in Cali, but so is the weather elsewhere…
-
Thesis being BIAL is worth significantly more than what’s on the balance sheet. IPO in the next few years. Obviously the fees are far from ideal and the reason I’d never hold this long term. But they don’t “break” the thesis as I stated. Perhaps stating they don’t impact it is too optimistic as they limit upside however.

He’s 95 and noticeably more frail/slow of mind than even a few years ago. I don’t think there’s anything cooking…
