Not to mention the problem with guarenteeing returns. Also...silly OpenAI, don't they know AI is suppose to replace jobs? https://www.engadget.com/ai/openai-reportedly-plans-to-double-its-workforce-to-8000-employees-161028377.html

Warren Buffett Defends the ‘Giving Pledge’ Against Peter Thiel
Malmqky replied to Lotsofcoke's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
He's right though. Twisted geniuses. -
@Blake Hampton Why do you not invest in Berkshire or Fairfax or JPM, considering you seem to respect Buffett, Prem, and Dimon (not to mention the Berkshire/FFH equity portfolios include OXY)? Or why don't you follow Buffett's advice: "My regular recommendation has been a low-cost S&P 500 index fund." Unless you think he's changed his mind since 2017, etc? Or think his advice doesn't apply to your situation? Serious questions and not gotchas, as I know you've considered both these options, but for some reason have chosen to invest differently. Thanks.

Buffett has more or less claimed with a small portfolio he’d return ~50% annually by ignoring macro and focusing on micro/small caps, like in his partnership days. I for one believe him...seems others don't realize the last 20 years of Berkshire have looked dramatically different than what Buffett would prefer to do, due to the size of Berkshire.

Warren Buffett Defends the ‘Giving Pledge’ Against Peter Thiel
Malmqky replied to Lotsofcoke's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
Thiel and Buffett really are the epitomy of two opposite sides of a spectrum, aren't they? -
I also want in on this hypothetical bet, probably happens lol
-
Probably more Chubb or CVX. Or are we counting those as Buffett picks still?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks during a press conference in Jerusalem on March 19 (AFP) During a press conference, Netanyahu added that Tehran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz would “not work” and expressed confidence that the war could end sooner than expected.

Okay, so let's take those numbers at face value then. I would argue a government who kills 2,917 of its people, is not for its people. Do we agree? I am sure Iran is a gorgeous place, and the Iranians I've met (living in America) are friendly and pleasant people. I believe protests were due to economic conditions?
-
How many 1000s of Iranians were killed in January? Times says the number could be upwards of 30k. Or is that fake news? Regardless, if a government kills thousands of its own people because they protest, it's not for the people. Bottom line. That's what I mean by Iranian taking their government/country back. At the same time, it is possible for the people and its government to be united against US oppression, etc. Two things can be true at once. Correct me if I'm being ignorant here and am wrong.
-
Take Iran for example. Looks like a moderate success so far, although massive downside looms on the horizon. But, if things wrap up quickly, and the Iranian people take their country back (doubtful if we look at Iraq and Afghanistan), it's going to be a massive win for humanity, even if I don't think we should be involved in the Middle East.

Everyone knows Trump is a morally lacking person. What it comes down to is whether or not Trump is what this country needs. I don't think so personally, but there's an angle where we all look back and realize the Trump presidency is the disruption this country needed long term, even if short term it's a disastor. I also hold out hope I'm wrong and everything works out fine. I hope his presidency is a success, even if I can't see it at the moment.

@Parsad seriously though, can we introduce a tier of membership with no ads? -
Warren has preached for years book is no longer a good proxy. So who knows I’m still anchored to 1.3x book tho
-
Great work, never even considered something like this.

I mean, after how many decades spent in the Middle East, I get why people are nervous about forever wars. Id prefer to not have more friends and family members die for no reason. Lets hope this is over quickly.

Sometimes I think I'm in the bottom quartile of investors, then I read something like this. Bad take indeed.
