  1. I will add it seams Carney has a love affair with trying to raise rates any chance he gets - makes absolutely no sence but works into your thesis. Cardboard are you looking at straight up shorting or puts?
  2. I forgot to add, I like eating :D so, I do have to work out also - just not been as diligent as I like! Im not going to tell ya who my favourite hockey team is :'(
  3. From a previous thread, would be interesting to know what everyone likes to do or is interested when they are not trying to make (or not lose) $. Me, where do I start? I have a bad case of ADD, doesnt allow me to stay in one spot for very long both literally and figuratively. I am more into hockey than Golf (I started my own hockey league). I do other things to keep me busy but investing pays the bills for me. I live in Southern Ontario. hmmm... what was I just thinking about - damn ADD!!!!!! ;)
  4. My golf game, not so good - I dont have the patience. I will start a new thread on "investors other interests"... 8) Edit, Here it is the "other interests" thread http://cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/index.php?topic=2836.0
  5. Hawk, where are you from? I live about 1/2 hr away from Niagara Falls! ;D
  6. haha yes, its hard to shake that reputation....
  7. any of the 75%-100% guys dipping toes in yet?
  8. only those who've been accused of market timing and macro investing.
  9. Thats my train of thought also. My posts may seem negative but thats just what I see. Im not making up the housing or unemployment numbers, gdp or foreclosure rates - thats usually what I refer to without going into too much detail (I dont like to type a whole bunch :P). There was a cheeky article on denial today in the WSJs digital network, youd think i could find it now?y -
  10. The drop was much greater than expected. http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100824-708958.html Existing home sales plunged to their lowest level in 15 years in July as inventories soared, painting a grim picture for the housing market absent government support in a stubbornly sluggish economy. Home resales dropped a record 27.2%--nearly twice as much as analysts had expected Add to the fact there are so many homes in an "inventory" of foreclosure - there is so much supply out there its going to take a long while. Seeing that Construction is one of the last sectors that hasnt been "outsourced" it prob makes up a larger % of GDP than we are used to. Huge unemployment + Huge house supply = ugly.
  11. Expecting National Association of Realtors report tommorrow to show a 12-13% decline in July sales of existing homes. Those "cheap" co's will probably get a bit cheaper
  12. Pretty cool stuff! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/video/meet-italys-water-dogs/article1682191/?view=picks
  13. haha, ok, for me, I have a hard time saying what is currently cheap if the future is currently so uncertain 8). Having said that, I would state that the "recession proof" holdings you are listed are the cheapest or safest - not necessarily cheap.
  14. If you guys think being in Cash today is trying to time the market then we are worlds apart.
  15. This reminds me of the "cash burn" clocks from the late 90s we used to watch! Fun times! ;D
  16. I do, but usually at the Library and for free. I like to go to the library every once in a while because i am less distracted there (i.e. no one knows where to find me :P) I like the hard copy of Value line because i can flip through companies financials alot quicker and do comparisons etc in hard copy. When i find something that intrigues me I usually do more info gathering on the net.
  17. Props to you guys who made multiples here - I like to hear those stories because Im not a 5 - 10 bagger type guy because of my "take profit" mentality. Myth, what did you see in this company way back at the $0.11 stage that made you commit or was it more a shoot fish in a barrel approach to penny stocks? What an enormous run!
  18. My weighting still hasnt changed much from the time of the original poll.
  19. Though I grew up in Canada (Southern On) that gets me too in the winter. It is really a killer during the long dark winter months but when it snows its great! I havent spent much time in Vancouver however I enjoyed my stay in Victoria BC. FACTOID: The southernmost part of Ontario is farther south than the northernmost part of California. It still gets dark around 4-4:30 ish in the Winter here though (Southern On)

  21. I seem to have more grey hair then luck - I think that has something to do with it :)
  22. Days like today in these uncertain times are why I keep my Cash weighting high. I can buy what I sold about a month ago for about 7% gain already. I may wait a bit longer. BTW, Im not advocating what I do is right or the best way, just to add to the conv of why someone may have X Cash vs X+/-
  23. Good Luck with the future endeavors. Remember: We work to live, not live to work! ;)
  24. Timely to this debate, this just got posted on the Canadian Side questioning Stats Can job numbers: http://www.thespec.com/News/Business/article/824001
  25. This govt is killing itself trying to show some kind of inflation - if they are going to fudge the numbers it would be in the other direction. No govt wants to be the one on record of a deflationary period such as what we are getting.
