First, I'm not talking about "lefties". I'd separate the scientists from the politicians. Just going by the American Academy of Pediatric guidelines, it's still recommended. Perhaps the guidelines in Europe were/are different? I don't know why that matters. Just saying that in the medical community most acted/act in good faith regarding this. What the virus is today is not what it potentially could have been 5 years ago. There's no counterfactual to compare with.

There is the benefit of hindsight and this being a brand new vaccine and brand new disease. The unknown unknowns of what the pathology of the disease as well as what the risks/benefits would be, both in terms of the disease related lockdowns and of the vaccine. The vast majority of the science community including Fauci were making decisions/recs in good faith in my humble opinion.
