Hello SD, thank you for your reply. I completely understand everything you are saying here. It's just that your comment about "there not being a way to currently value Bitcoin" seems to contradict all of the other valuation techniques provided by the other Bulls. And this small detail may be one reason why Newbs like myself, Reds and Luke are having a difficult time assigning a value to Bitcoin. Do you care to correct your original comment? Thanks.

Thanks Wacht! Sounds like another possibility at a total loss of capital. That is quite some downside. It seems like most of the reasons I have heard thus far could result in a total loss of capital. But that's what I asked for! My name may be Buckeye, but it sounds like I may need bigger nuts than a Buckeye to jump into the Bitcoin boat.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply RK. These all seem like valid concerns that I can add to my understanding of Bitcoin. I hope to possibly hear some other examples from the other experts. It is a little scary to me that your first 3 examples most likely end up in a complete loss of capital. But as they say...scared money don't make money. Whoever "they" are. Thank you!

Hello SD, thank you for your reply. And thank you for making me a portfolio analyst in your example! However, I am just Buckeye, the boner of the Midwest, but I am beholden to no one. If I were to buy 1 Bitcoin with plans to hold for the next 5-10 years, what are some of the reasons (if any) why my Bitcoin investment would not work out? Certainly with the 100’s of hours you and the other Bitcoin bulls have spent reading up on this subject, there should be some reasons, correct? If so, can you please help me understand one or two of them? And any other Bulls please feel free to add your reasons. Thank you!

So then you do agree that there are methods to value Bitcoin? Because it seemed to me like you saying “Folks just can't get past that the price of BTC cannot be supported by DCF valuation; the reality is that it doesn't exist yet, 'cause it's just too early. Not much different to trying to value a relationship” implies to me that the valuation method for Bitcoin does not yet exist. So which is it? Or am i misunderstanding your quote? Thank you!

Hello SD I am here to learn. I can get past needing to perform a DCF on Bitcoin, mostly because I have never really performed a DCF on any of my investments Carrying on, some of the other Bitcoin bulls have recently provided me with multiple options for valuing Bitcoin. You seem to be implying that the method to value Bitcoin does not yet exist. Have I understood you correctly? And if so, can we have it both ways? Thank you!

I am here to learn….Charlie Munger has taught me that to truly grasp a subject, one should be able to understand the opposing side’s argument/viewpoint better than they can. In just a few sentences, can one of the Bitcoin bulls please explain to me why Bitcoin possibly won’t work out as an investment? Thank you!

Hello Brett, congratulations on your book! What a tremendous feat. I just purchased a copy on Amazon and am looking forward to reading it. Keep up the good work.

Do you plan to continue holding Berkshire once Buffett is gone?

There have been a few articles lately trying to explain the lack of hurricanes this season. Apparently the storms this year have been forming off of Africa’s Saharan desert, which is farther north than usual. And therefore the air starts off warmer and drier, leading to weaker storms. Not sure why this is happening though. But I think you are certainly correct when you say that just because it’s been a mild season thus far, does not necessarily mean that the rest of the season will be equally as mild.

Hello Reds, I think one thing that’s become apparent with regards to insurance companies is that in order for them to adopt similar practices as Berkshire, Fairfax and Markel is they need to be able to focus on the long term. So it seems like the insurance companies with heavy insider ownership are the only ones able to play the long game.

Any chance they’d do a tender offer?

Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2024

Very interesting take here with regards to the investments. I had never thought of this as a potential outcome. -
There was an interesting article in this past weekend’s WSJ, where the writer pointed out that workers in the 70’s apparently expected the inflation to continue to increase and therefore they continued to ask for pay raises, thus exacerbating the inflation. He contrasted that with now, where apparently workers expect the current inflation to subside and therefore have not been asking/demanding pay raises.

Is this the GMAL ETF?

Hey Spek, Just to clarify your statement about “Putin calling up 135k more,” I read that that headline is a little misleading as Russia has two drafts a year (one in the Spring) where they draft approximately 135k troops. So while it does appear that Russia is adding to their troop levels (and they may certainly need it) it may be also a little bit of “lucky” timing.

Damn @gfp, contacting the CFO? Nice work.

Thanks GFP! I missed the fact that CPPIB and OMERS were two different entities. Thank you for the clarification.

This may be a terribly stupid question, but can someone please explain to me why this deal is being reported as a sale of 10% of ORH, when the language in the opening paragraph of the press release reads “OMERS will acquire 100% of a new series of securities representing a 4.995% interest in Odyssey Group Holdings, Inc.”? So it’s not a sale of 4.995% of ORH? Thanks!

I vote for Lexus/Toyota. I bought my 2003 4Runner in 2008 with 50k miles and it just turned over 250k miles and is still running great. The only thing that’s been replaced over the years is oil, brakes, batteries, belts, plugs, tires and 1 radiator. Same starter, alternator, water pump, etc. It’s been an amazing truck.
