This is why I believe the trade deficit talk is a bit of a misnomer. Wealth is created. Trade balances assumes that wealth is passed around. Balancing the federal books, or at least having GDP growing faster than the debt, is far more important. None of this would be a problem if the deficit was under control. But I do believe trade with China (and other countries) should have faced tariffs many years ago. Certain industries should be protected and national security is reason enough.

They are not the same things lol. These are two different set of circumstances and beget a different set of choices. Can't we just judge things by how they are and not how they are perceived in relation to another?

Come on cubs, you know I’ve advocated for Europe to do far more for a very long time. Even before the Ukraine war I said Europe didn’t not spend enough on defence. When Trump visited Europe in his first term and said Europe shouldn’t be buying Russian oil and gas and doesn’t spend enough I agreed with him. In fact I’ve been saying it before Trump even ran for president.
