  1. Fairfax India to Acquire 65% of Global Aluminium Private Limited https://www.fairfaxindia.ca/press-releases/fairfax-india-to-acquire-65-of-global-aluminium-private-limited-2024-09-06/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Fri+Sep+06+2024&utm_campaign=Fairfax+India+to+Acquire+65+of+Global+Aluminium+Private+Limited
  2. I finally took the plunge and purchased a slug of FIH.u
  3. Is anyone aware of any timelines when the rebalance of the index happens?
  4. I couldn’t agree more!
  5. Agreed - I wonder how much additional land will be stolen from the Palestinians once the Israeli government's blood lust is over? US has significant concerns with Israeli governments extremist tone in this area. Israel’s far-right wants to move Palestinians out of Gaza. Its ideas are gaining attention | CNN "Into that void has stepped a group – once fringe, but now in the governing coalition –that hopes for full Israeli control, to resettle Gaza and even expel Palestinians. And its ideas are permeating mainstream debate."
  6. I think Israel will also start to be excluded from the world based on their heinous actions and how they tried to start a larger war across the region. Short term however they will get a Nobel peace prize for not escalating the Iranian attacks and show to the world how good human beings they are. Go figure…
  7. Bingo! This is something no one talks about as Israel has been playing US and UK. like a fiddle. What do you think would be some of these consequences for Israel’s actions in trying to cause a gulf war 3?
  8. That's UN's definition under article 2 of Genocide. At least now based on the definitions of the international community we can say Israel is committing Genocide.
  9. So you are saying Gaza is not an open-air prison and Palestinians are free to leave at any time without permission? come on, now you are just being silly.
  10. Can you honestly say Israel is not committing any of the following acts? Article 2 of the Convention defines genocide as:
  11. The idea that Israel is defending itself is absurd as the notion that a rapist is defending itself from the victim - Israel is the occupier!
  12. Sajeev, The 5 points of Genocide being committed: 1. Mass killing of Palestinians - innocent death toll is at 33,000 and counting 2. Bodily and mental harm - Over 76,000 wounded 3. forced displacement and food blockade 4. Destruction of the health care system 5. Preventing Palestinian births If you compare hamaas to the rawanda death squads, how would you compare the IDF based on the above 5 points being committed against innocent ppl? The question is not getting rid of hamas as that's what Israel media wants you to believe is the issue to justify the Genocide. The real question is how to make hamas irrelevant . Maybe, just maybe if you treat the Palestinians like humans and you give them their dignity outside of an 'open air prison' then maybe the reason for hamas to exist may not be required which in turn would make them irrelevant. To make a lasting deal, you need two sides to want to make a deal and Trump even admitted, Israel PM Netanyahu never wanted to make peace.
  13. I am not even going to dignify a response, if you want to keep a blind view and support Genocide all the power to you.
  14. Israel attacked a sovereign country's embassy which is an act of war, can you at least admit that much? Second, if you need to even ask what genocide/theft Israel has commited, I have nothing more to say as this is blind ignorance. Iran has not officially released any statement as such besides organizations that may or may not be affiliated with the government. Let's do a simple exercise, please perform back of the envelope math on what the population would be if Israel did not commit genocide since 1948. let's look at how many lives were lost. Its shocking when you do this exercise.
  15. Iran is exercising their right to defend themselves and Israel needs to be taught a lesson for the Genocidal acts they are committing against innocent individuals.
  16. That's how I interpreted it. That means, the core positions won't have any tech since Prem will need to approve. However, Wade / Lawrence and the other managers shouldn't have any issues buying tech in their portfolio.
  17. This is wonderful news. Does anyone know where we are on the regulatory approval to increase our ownership to 74%?
  18. Why? Its still significantly below TBV/BV. Jane re-affirmed their ROTCE targets as well.
  19. I would also like to wish everyone a Feliz Navidad from Colombia! A special thanks to @Parsad for starting this board with an incredible community.
  20. Trisura, earlier this year the company was impacted by a one off write down and the stock price was hit pretty hard. The company continues to hit the ball out of the park with an operating ROE of 20% and potentially a structural CR in the mid/ high 70s. The companies CEO is young and super smart and I expect it to trade back in line with its specialty insurance peers. Brookfield, still undervalued on a SOTP, strong capable management (I know many will disagree here) and if rates come down this has pretty significant upside potential. I am really excited about its long term potential. British American tobacco, the share price is silly cheap. They need to avoid capital destructive behaviours (acquisitions and VC type investments). Management should only focus on growing the dividend, debt pay down and repurchasing shares. That’s all. In fact, I would prefer not to grow the dividend and use the cash for share repurchases but that won’t happen. Citi, share price is silly cheap. Jane looks to be doing all the right moves by selling non-core assets along with shutting non profitable businesses. The buyback thesis has not started yet but it should kick in nicely in 2024. fairfax, cheap compared to its peers but not like last year. This should be the gift that keeps on giving.
  21. Thanks, I appreciate. The only way to improve is to reflect on your past decisions and not make similar mistakes.
  22. I enjoy looking back at my past picks to see if my analysis/ thesis played out. Most of the time it’s a very humbling experience. - FFH up 48-50% - depends if you hold it in CAD or USD. The thesis has played to perfection and it’s by far the largest position in my portfolio by multiples to the number 2 position. - Citi up 12% - Jane looks to be doing all the right moves by selling non core assets along with shutting non profitable businesses. The buyback thesis has not started yet but that should kick in nicely in 2024 as management continues to simplify the business and hopefully with the freed up capital repurchases shares! This is one of the smaller 2.5% positions in my portfolio. - BN up 24-27%, I love all the moves BF and team are making. I wish they repurchased more shares however the reinvestment opportunities are almost endless and that is the priority. The market is seeing this as a rate sensitive business and ignores the valuation of what they are buying. I had a great discussion with @petec on this topic and I feel the market was just being irrational with the valuation. This is the second largest position in my portfolio. - baba is down 13%, what can I say besides I was wrong. Lesson learned. I reduced my position and reinvested it into CP Rail which has been performing well. Baba is a 3% position in my portfolio.
