Delta CEO says WEB sold covid around covid times because he didn't want to hinder their ability to get government aid or be a distraction https://www.cnbc.com/video/2026/05/18/delta-ceo-appreciative-of-berkshires-return.html

I also wonder if WEB feels that Americans will prefer to take long haul flights to Europe on delta vs the Middle East carriers. Not sure that I want my family to have a stop over in Dubai, etc

Ha I was smiling when I saw the same thing. Bill sells Google, goes up 30%, then he goes on TV to talk about buying MSFT, lol.

I am surprised by the 1/3 CVX sale. I understand the stock gained a lot in the last 6 months, but I would have thought it was a long term hold.

Right now BTIs main competition in vapes is completely illegal vapes from companies who aren't trying to sell them legally. FDA plans to crack down on the completely illegal vapes as well. A story we have been hearing for years. https://www.fda.gov/tobacco-products/ctp-newsroom/fda-issues-guidance-enforcement-priorities-unauthorized-ends-and-nicotine-pouch-products

Looks like they purchased $6 Million more of UA https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1336917/000094787126000543/xslF345X03/ownership.xml

Why is it up 15% in a week? On news of FDA resignation?
-
That might be exactly what they are doing with the WEF fund investments. They are maintaining the exposure to the commodity with a much better jockey.

a head scratcher in what way? Fairfax has experience with sportswear from the manufacturing side as well as retail. When I look around kids seems to be involved in more sport activities at a more competitive level at a lounger age. I tend to believe the UA got to large and tried to sell everything to everyone. I think the focused strategy has promise. So I think it could work out as an investment, but will take years.

Should board members be allowed to write books? So Buffett can’t go on CNBC anymore? No more letters? Prem shouldn’t talk to the author of the Fairfax way? Seem a little nutty to me.

@SafetyinNumbers do you have a best guess on what the dividend for AGT will be? Has it been announced or do you think it will be this week? Seems like in the past you speculated 5% might be possible, and with the price drop it seems more possible.

if the lesson wasn't learned in the 70's, why will it be learned now?

CLX seems like the brands can survive a cyber attack and a SAP ERP disaster.

you purchased frfhf at $1630? What broker do you use? I couldn't get fills that low.
-
lol, made me laugh. Are you selling any of your oil and gas? I own a lot of stuff I am happy to own for the next decade, but also suspect I will have a chance to buy lower in the next decade.
-
Yeah I agree. My personal perdition is that at these prices they buyback stock at the rate they are earning cash. I suspect they buyback around 10bn per quarter.
-
Can you elaborate? Like you think we are headed to global recession and brk gets dragged down with everything else? Or you think without buffet brk gets forgotten about and it just drifts out of people mind and the stock drags lower?

Lets say Iran mines/attacks a VLCC and all the crude goes into the gulf. How does Iran's water desalination plant deal with that? Seems like an attack near Iran's water supply would be not good for them.
-
seems like you were rather bearish earlier in the year. Thanks for posting that you invested. When you turned bullish oil and gas did you turn bearish on something else?
-
What oil and gas names are you still holding?
-
Why is WCS tanking? down 13% and WTI is flat? Because the east/west pipeline is flowing at capacity?

What is your assessment of First Republic Bank? Did they stick to banking? It seems odd to me that the general sentiment is excitement for the hiring of Mrs. Erkan. She was on the board of directors and co-CEO shortly before the collapse of the 2nd largest bank in the US History. I had never heard of the lady till last weekend and maybe she left because she didn't like the asset/liability mismatch First Republic was doing, and if that is the case, what an amazing hire. I hope they aren't being fooled by a pretty face and impressive resume.

I have seen this type of comment a lot on here. Why do we think Indian banking will be a good investment? I know nothing about Indian banking, so I have no opinion one way or the other. Is it like Canada where the few banks basically have a monopoly? Or is everyone convinced it will work out well because they have the largest population and like half the people still don't have a bank account? I understand the Eurobank has workout out well, but why is everyone so confident that this will be a great investment? It seems like the general sentiment is that everyone is excited if they win the bid for the bank, but I haven't seen anyone say why the investment will work out well. I am not saying it won't, I simply want to know the consensus is that it would be a good investment.

I am not Canadian, but paying a fat dividend seems like an easy way to get shareholders in Canada . So I think it matters

I am still working through the letter (kids), but it was news to me that the TSX has outperformed the S&P500 over that last 5 years. I am not Canadian so I don't really pay attention to the TSX, but that surprised me. From page 24 of the report. Fairfax (CDN$) TSX S&P500 5 years 45.8% 16.1% 14.4%
