It was interesting hearing him be thankful for the men and woman working outside on the railroad in Montana and ND.
-
Charlie’s trust. Much like warrens kids.
-
@gfp how do you think Peter Liegl of Forest river gets the cash for that purchase. Obviously forest river makes a lot of money, but I doubt they keep 300M around for a potential purchase. It seems like Greg has implement more of a sweep account system. Do you think Peter calls Warren and ask for the money or does he call Greg?
-
I assume so. Buffet has long said if he thought he could make money trading oil futures he wouldn’t need to operate a railroad that requires billions of capex. I assume that carries over to pilot as well.
-
Do we have guesses who will take Charlie’s seat on the board? Would Warren not have asked Charlie who he would like to replace him? Not really a fun conversation to have with Charlie, but it probably isn’t easy now either.
-
I’m hoping they came up will a price, WEB paid it and we can watch the haslams run their pro teams into last place.
-
As always thanks for sharing. 31.4billion is a lot more than I would have thought. Do you think a 8% annual return on this investment is a reasonable estimate?
-
How did you get WEB's permission to do this? I would love to see you get a "licensed audio/video file of each annual meeting" I have watched as many as I can on youtube, but I would like to see them in a more permanent home.
-
Yes, but he plays a large role in the biggest issues, train derailments, lawsuits with pilot etc. some may love it, but not sure if that is what I want to do in my 80’ if I have a few hundred million in the bank. I hope he does work for Berkshire into his 90’s and I hope he molds the job to match his life. Like Warren promoting Greg and ajit and hiring Todd and Ted, that allowed Warren to focus on what he enjoyed the most.
-
I personally would like to know how long Greg wants to work. Does he really want to dedicate his life to carrying on warrens legacy. I am sure he is smart enjoys learning etc, but it seems like managing the day to day operations would get tiring. Maybe he makes himself chairman and gives more operational responsibility to others in time.

I don't speculate about WEB buying big tech because he has articulated his reasoning for not buying it publicly for the last 30 years.
-
This is what I was wondering. They love their American Express, but can’t buy anymore. They also aren’t scared of consumer finance with ally and cof.
-
I agree, the only way this is cheap, is if they buy some company for 100 Billion tomorrow with a 15% ROE than you are looking at like $64 billion of earning on a 760 market cap or < 12 PE. Maybe WEB thinks that a large acquisition is more likely in this environment since private equity will have a higher cost of capital and banks might have tighter underwriting standards (if higher for longer lasts)?

5% on a $1,000,000 house yes,2% no. Seems like other parts of the world are closer to 2% than 5%.

Android is not a strong competitor in the high school world. I think I lot of those students will not want to trade down to android in the years to come.

Seems to me that this will hurt small firms a lot more than large firms. When I saw this ruling come out I thought Redfin and Zillow would pop, since they already offer commissions less than 6%. I know I was sure happy with the verdict. I hope we can find a way to have sellers pay less than 6% to sell a house.

I agree @gfp is a must read poster.

So What Exactly Is The "Short Homebuilders" Thesis At This Point

Are you ready to start buying LPX again? -
Where did the $82Billion value come from? Is that the book value if BNSF?
-
What kind of sales? I haven’t seen them out their kitchen cabinets on sales in years, but they seem to always have a few couches and lamps and what not on sale.

What's the thesis on Standard Motor Products? cars are older and need more parts? I have always thought of them as a no moat business. I curious to hear what you see.

we were in the same position. our son would cry in the night so the easiest was to put him in bed with us. That was fine until he slept sideways on your pillows kicking us in the head all night. We used https://takingcarababies.com/ and he hasn't been in our bed since. The first night he cried in the crib with his mom sitting outside the crib for an hour, the next night was 20 min, the third night was 10 minutes and then minimal issues. The course is like 50 videos, so you get you pay for and so it will take hours to watch, but it worked for us.
-
We used https://takingcarababies.com/ too and it solved all out problems as well. We watched all the videos and then put the plan in action. Things aren't perfect but it was money I would spend again in a heart beat.

I had never seen the quote where buffet said "The very best we hope for is – on average – to double Berkshire’s per-share intrinsic value every five years, and we may well fall far short of that goal." So in 1996 is was shooting for 15% annual growth.

Are you laughing because it’s so small?
