  1. If the 10 year hits 2% by year end--what are some good names to own? And sectors? Banks are the most obvious, but curious if people on the board are already adding to names and sectors if this happens?
  2. If someone started an RIA 6 months ago and has an average return of 70-80% over the past 6 months, would would people on the board do to get more clients? Yes, the returns sounds completely implausible but they are accurate (funds managed are about $3 million). Does anyone on the board know of firms that will bring you clients in return for a cut of the profits? If so, any particular companies anyone can recommend? Oh, this is an RIA but there are also performance fees for qualified clients. Thanks!
  3. He said on his podcast a couple of weeks ago he isn't running. I think he just wanted to get some free press. He wants to have his name in the news. It is obvious. He wants to create the next Berkshire to help with inequality. I like Chamath and I think he will do well but I don't buy his argument about setting up a holding company will help with inequality. Only the middle and upper class buy equities. The poor won't be buying. Very few "poor" people bought Berkshire and made a lot of money. Sure someone making $100k a year will buy it but inequality isn't about people making $100k a year it is about the people making less than $15 an hour.
  4. Besides scale, what is the reason the fund for employees was up 76% last year and they had two funds that were down in the 30's?
  5. I bought some Churchill Capital around $18. I thought about selling some but didn't pull the trigger thinking the deal with Lucid will probably go through. Time will tell if this was a mistake not to sell.
  6. Hedge fund super basic question, let's say an account goes from $1 million to $2 million and the GP collects 20% of all profits. In this scenario the GP takes $200k so now the LP is left with $1.8 million. Is the high watermark to calculate future performance fees based on the $1.8 million or the $2 million before the fee? I'm sure different funds calculate both ways but do most funds calculate the high watermark before the fee? To put another way, the GP now has to earn a little over 10% just to get into the black to start earning the next fee? Thanks.
  7. Nothing news shattering here and this has been repeated a million times but his Apple trade is unbelievable. I think the 13F in mid Nov it made up $105 billion of Berkshire? Apple is up almost another 10% since then so now about $115 billion? With a market cap of $526b? So Apple makes up about 20% of Berkshire's market cap and over 50% of its equity holdings. Buffett has balls even in his 90's.
  8. Good lord, I bought 10 shares of Quantumscape when it was at $13 before the spac merger. I was going to research it but never got around to it. I have a 10 bagger but I only put a hundred dollars into it. I guess a thousand dollar profit is better than nothing. Too bad I didn't buy a 100 shares.
  9. I bought a huge amount of Desktop Metals today (symbol DM). 3d printing. This is going to print me money. Exchange is having problems with the symbol but I bought several thousand shares. This is a gift!
  10. I sold half of my call options of Nikola at a 400% profit. My wife is happy. :)
  11. He bought Cano Health. I'm trying to find some numbers. So far I've only seen a 4 min video on CNBC with SOrkin interrupting him so I didn't learn much. Medicare Advantage part I think Barry said. Has Barry discussed the industry he might use the funds? "Jaws Acquisition Corp., led by Chairman Barry S. Sternlicht and Chief Executive Officer Joseph L. Dowling, will not be limited to a particular industry or geographic region in its identification and acquisition of a target company, except that it does not intend to pursue real estate, lodging or energy infrastructure assets."
  12. I want to see the Nasdaq fall further and some of the names I'm looking at but curious if anyone wants to share ideas if shares continue to fall? I think Docusign has the potential for a potent network effect and I'm dipping my toe in the water. I also think Fiverr already has a network effect. The price to sales is close to 20x but the company's growth, I believe, merits the multiple to sales and gross profit.
  13. Apologies if I missed it but I read that he bought some industrials but we won't know until the 13f filing. He sold $4 billion of Apple and bought some industrials. Assuming that is correct, any guesses on what he is buying?
  14. well, serves me right to lose money after criticizing Einhorn, Tilson, etc for losing lots of money with their shorts. I'll cover a little today and the rest on Friday.
  15. It is very rare that I short things but I have a small short on the nasdaq. I will cover it most likely within a week or so as I don't usually like to short but this seems like a good day to put it on. Of course, we could rally tomorrow so that is why it is a small position.
  16. Anyone shorting today? If so, care to share any ideas?
  17. Well said. I type on my phone and don't spend more than a few seconds typing my messages as I'm not trying to impress anyone on the board, it is more of just sharing my thoughts and what I'm doing and being part of discussing companies. if it works it works. Yes, I'm very well are of process and outcome but the Todd and Ted doubled their investment on this. Sometimes this board comes across as too rigid in thinking but there are some very sharp people on this board as well and the reason why I still check it. I miss Ericopoly's posts. He had some great ones. I guess he isn't on much anymore. His BAC option posts were very good.
  18. Berkshire is only 4000 Amazon shares off their all time high share count. I don't think it was a meaningful sale of Amazon shares and it may not have been a sale at all with various subsidiary divestitures over the last year making it look like Berkshire was selling shares (DVA for instance) when they were not. Thanks for pointing out the small number. I guess I was frustrated they didn't buy any after a huge sell off. That's true. I guess we won't ever know until the sad day Warren passes away since they have never spoken to Berkshire shareholders.

  20. This isn't a dumb move by Todd and/or Tad, SNOW raised the IPO price another 30%. They will probably make a double on this within the year. A lot better than they have done the last decade. Per Warren, one underperformed the S&P since they started and the other is roughly even with the S&P.
  21. Gilead is buying Immunomedcis for $88 a share in cash. Depending on what the stock starts trading at tomorrow, this could be an interesting risk arb deal. Anyone on the board that has knowledge in this sector as far as any regulatory agencies risk that might kill the deal? I don't see high risk of the deal not going through. The FDA approved trodelvy in April and Gilead has made similar acquisitions in the past.
  22. I don't know if it was Ted or the other chap but I bet they wish they didn't sell Amazon earlier in the year. Not sure how they missed that one. They could have put several hundred million of their cash to work. I know they have helped Buffett in a lot of ways outside of portfolio management but they haven't exactly hit the ball out of the mark with the money they have managed over the last several years.
  23. Maybe Ted will sell it after the IPO. Salesforce does this and seems to be a way to print money. Maybe this is a stretch, but, in effect, an arb play in the IPO market since we all know how the underwriters always price it below demand?
  24. Has Barry discussed the industry he might use the funds?
