  1. People are talking past each other in some respects. Arguments can be made that it is just as "unethical" to buy companies other than Microsoft. But it was silly for Wedgewood to single out Microsoft without mentioning all the times that Buffett has said he won't buy their stock because of his relationship with Gates.
  2. Instagram seems appealing to young people. Can you please clarify?
  3. Wow, that is a good article. Thanks for sharing!
  4. This is a sad day. He did a lot for private investors.
  5. Just finished the book. It goes back in time pretty far such that it's hard to connect the material in the book to what BAM is today. I didn't see any references of Bruce Flatt but Jack Cockwell is mentioned throughout and I read somewhere (outside of the book) that he chose Bruce for the future.
  6. We're all human and we all make mistakes - I think he had a costly anchor bias with Sears. Not sure about other factors.
  7. Priceline founder Jay Walker talks about how the load factor is better today in this https://skift.com/history-of-online-travel/ excerpt:
  8. I also enjoyed as an inversion exercise. Hindsight is 20/20 but there is something different about her compared to other speakers like Reed Hastings. It's hard to describe the differences in writing but they're real...
  9. Just finished the book. It was quite a story!
  10. Google finance was a quick and easy way to see related companies for a given ticker. What's another easy way to see related companies?
  11. lol, BOOT was a terrible example. It's working again for me. :) Here's a better example using Middleby: http://financials.morningstar.com/ratios/r.html?t=midd&region=USA&culture=en_US The above shows between 55 million and 57 million shares from 2009 to present. rocketfinancial.com has different share count numbers for 2010 and 2011. They have 18.3 million and 18.5 million, respectfully (diluted).
  12. The 10 year financials stopped working for me today on Morningstar: http://financials.morningstar.com/ratios/r.html?t=boot&region=USA&culture=en_US I liked their format where 10 years were all on the same page. Are there any free alternatives? rocketfinancial.com isn't bad but I see 8 years on one page as opposed to 10.
  13. This is using logic and in a perfect world that would be fine. In this world I'm worried about the possibilities if she has a good lawyer and Eric has a bad one.
  14. The SCHW meeting is 2pm on May 15th in SF. I just registered: http://www.schwabevents.com/corporation/ If anyone else is going then please let me know, thanks.
  15. This reply is late but I enjoy this thread and I've been going through it again. Page 26 of the KMX 10-K through February 28, 2017 has the following: So within that 22.9% Other group we need to know what percent didn't finance.
  16. I think of it as the 3 Cs: 1. Cloning. See what notable investors are buying in their 13F filings: https://whalewisdom.com/ 2. Cannibals. Study companies that eat themselves by buying back their stock. 3. Chops (Spinoffs). Among other things, read Joel Greenblatt's "You Can Be a Stock Market Genius" (1999) where he talks about spinoffs.
  17. I like the way he answered the question on technical analysis at about the 1:13:00 mark:
