  1. For better or worse...he is immensely kind and gracious to the cult followers. If they could only do the same! Cheers!
  2. Remember, Carol Loomis who is a great writer, edits the BRK annual letter. I don't think Prem uses anyone. Prem has also always operated FFH as a team led company...succession planning was always at the forefront. BRK was really a one-man show until recent history where the two T's were hired and Ajit/Abel started sitting in on the AGM. If you've heard Buffett speak at the AGM, he can ramble. Now Munger...as concise as one can get...and I bet he doesn't use an editor for any letters he writes! Hopefully both Prem and Buffett have the mental acuity of Munger at his age! Cheers!
  3. +1! Totally agree. Even though I think a recession is coming, I bought stocks in one of the most vulnerable areas...retail. A few of them are just so damn cheap...stupid cheap! I'll just keep averaging down if the price falls. Cheers!
  4. Alot of things remain strong with the economy even with rising rates...jobs, mortgage delinquencies remain low, etc. https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/chargeoff/delallsa.htm But while the goalposts move, there is no avoiding a recession in the future...late 2023/early 2024 is still my pick as rates rise, debt burdens become onerous and lending tightens. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-consumer-borrowing-climbs-surge-191715949.html Cheers!
  5. With so much negative news and divisiveness in the media, I thought I would set up a thread sharing uplifting, non-partisan stories. Cheers! https://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/garbage-worker-turned-harvard-law-grad-paying-forward-99091581
  6. A loss for Canadiana. Cheers!
  7. Milken on Banking Fallout..."Not another crisis." Cheers! https://finance.yahoo.com/news/michael-milken-on-the-banking-turmoil-this-is-not-another-financial-crisis-190746352.html
  8. Half of America's Banks Are Potentially Insolvent https://finance.yahoo.com/news/half-america-banks-already-insolvent-133000968.html Cheers!
  9. Blame global warming! Cheers! https://ca.news.yahoo.com/iceberg-lovers-wild-over-viral-170404767.html
  10. How India's Population Numbers Exploded to Overtake China: https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/28/asia/india-population-overtakes-china-graphics-intl-hnk-dst-dg/index.html Cheers!
  11. 3, 2, 1... CP Rail announced the recession is here. I suspect the U.S. is a couple of quarters off. Cheers! https://financialpost.com/transportation/rail/cn-rail-traffic-drop-signals-canada-in-recession
  12. Not sure. He had 97% voting support in 2021, then it fell dramatically in 2022 and then again in 2023. He's 77, which isn't much older than Prem and he's younger than David Johnston. He's attended all meetings in 2023. I can't find anything that would indicate a group of investors has an issue with him. Perhaps it was an accidental click by a large pension fund or investor...but that's a lot of votes...I can't see it being just one. Maybe some investor's are upset with Northbridge or something? I don't know. Anyone have any idea? Cheers!
  13. Brilliant! I suspect this is the direction most artists will take, as it will be nearly impossible to stop. Cheers! https://www.yahoo.com/news/grimes-offers-50-50-split-171053215.html
  14. Nice post of the AGM Viking! Didn't anyone take photographs with others or of the booths, etc? If you have some nice pictures please feel free to post them. Cheers!
  15. Or "acclimate". Both work! Cheers!
  16. I can assure you that Prem does not post, but he and others at Fairfax may read from time to time. Cheers!
  17. Yes, but nominally. If book value is up 10% per share, you can assume ROE would be lower by a little less than 10%. Cheers!
  18. Correct. The one net benefit is that analysts and investors could never properly value their over-reserving as it wouldn't be apparent till years down the road. Now it is clear in the underlying book value, so the stock should price more accurately relative to actual book value compared to how it was priced historically. Fairfax has become easier to understand...from the quality of the insurance businesses, earning power of the insurance businesses, income power from the bond portfolio with higher rates, simplifying the investment holdings, laying out succession plans, etc. All of this may help elevate FFH to A credit ratings and more consistent valuation relative to book value. I think if they reduced debt over the next few years we would get those A ratings and it would be priced more in line with MKL or BRK. Cheers!
  19. That's just ridiculous! What was the justification for it? Cheers!
  20. Not making excuses for this. I just remember how shitty New York was in the 70's and early 80's and New York today is nothing like it was in the 70's! Yeah, homelessness and crime are up from a decade ago, but it's still light years better than it used to be. These things go in cycles with the economy and politics...that's my point. Cheers!
  21. You can pull thousands of such videos, while I can pull millions showing the opposite. Shit happens everywhere. Not saying that the courts couldn't be harder, but this is hyperbole! Cheers!
  22. I'd say a higher percentage of straight people (extremists on the left and right) want to impose their views compared to the percentage of gay/trans people that do the same. The extremists in every group get far more attention...look at MTG or AOC. Look even on this message board...more people for your argument than against are posting on the subject, even though a higher percentage of the board doesn't like this stuff being posted at all! Cheers!
  23. While the cities are young compared to driving the Amalfi Coast or something, I can tell you that driving the Pacific Coast Highway between Portland and San Diego is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, with ever changing coast lines and terrain. I've done this trip 4 times in my life and I would be happy to do it several more times! Cheers!
