Mike [ @cubsfan ], That you grab a question for James [ @james22 ] from me, tells me a lot about the ability to discuss this matter based on sobriety and objectivity. Why are you always entering a state of more of less self-occilation? The next thing is you start talking about USD 350 billion, right?

James [ @james22 ], Are you angry?

Great post, @Viking, The indignation among Canadian board members posting here on CofB&F is expressed, noticeable and tangible about the Canadian - American relations related to what's going on right now about tariffs between USA and Canada, and based on a history of decades of friendly trade and cooperation, and co-existence. That talk from the POTUS about Canada as the 51st US state is also belittling and patronizing. I would personally say, that always polite Mark Carney to me appear to now have his hands full on communication to stand up against POTUS. You have heard your wife cancel your usual summer vacation to USA. I have heard my better half say to me a few weeks ago, that if I wanted to buy shares in some defence contractors for her funds, she would be open to it. I was absolutely baffled by it, I considered it unlikely, that she would ever change mind on that. - - - o 0 o - - - I just checked : Tesla is now in the hiring phase for its European, Berlin-Brandenburg giga-factory. Tesla : Giga factory Berlin-Brandenburg It's for production of Tesla Y and batteries. Here, batteries to be exported to where? To perhaps USA, to perhaps getting hit by US tariffs on exports to USA? Elon Musk is 53 years old, and as far as I can see he has about 30 years of business experience, starting with Zip2 in '95. I'm personally really puzzled about him. In certain aspects - business related - he appears quite naive, in my personal view.

@formthirteen and @Sweet, It may end up being as 'simple' as a situation showing the eventual outcome of the combination of alcohol on the workplace, and how bad it can go, if the person in charge is intoxicated on the watch, 'running' a vehicle with a mass of perhaps thousands of tons, perhaps even loaded with hazardous stuff. It's about company culture and safety regulations at the shipping company.

Hilarious. I can't stop laughing. - - - o 0 o - - - All this MAGA stuff is so old fashion. This is just the 2025 version [a very clumsy version, I would say] of : 'Buy American. I am.' The New York Times - Opinion - Warren Buffett [October 16th 2008] : Buy American. I Am.

@nsx5200, Same here as what @LC and @Spekulatius said, but as a Dane. I read Danish translation of 'Animal farm' as curriculum in elementary school, in Danish, eighth or nineth year, I think ['Animal farm' was in the Danish translation translated to 'Kammerat Napoleon' in Danish, which again translates back to English by 'Comrade Napoleon']. I've read '1984' translated to Danish in Danish curriculum in high school.

Movies and TV shows (general recommendation thread)

This evening late, I had to opt between Howard Marks' new memo 'Gimme credit' or The Netflix movie 'Get me Roger Stone'. I opted - leisurely - for the latter. One third through it by now - it's f**king avesome! <slightly squinting at what is going on in the topic 'Russian - Ukrainian war' > -
@Spekulatius, Yes, it is indeed very thought-provoking. Somehow, I can't help to think about George Orwell : Nineteen Eighty-Four here. A bit symptomatical, here is a screen shot of the 're-post' button on Truth Social : .

@Spekulatius, Sure, think Huawei.

@Sweet, To me personally, Mike [ @cubsfan ] and other american CofB&F members have in this topic always had a valid point of the United States of America acting as a security firm for Europe without an agreement for billing for the services provided, since the Russian-Ukrainian war started. The skin in the game here is different for Europe than for USA, that must by now be evident for everyone. Very humiliating and embarrassing for Europe by now, I would say. Fix by now in progress. All good, but about time.

Thank you for sharing, @Eng12345, About ~1½ years ago, I was seriously considering a Starlink connection : I finally decided to go with a 1,000 Mbit fibre connection in the home in stead of a Starlink installation, migrating from a lame 20 Mbit down / 2 Mbit up copper connection, installed around beginning af February last year. I had to pay quite some extra to get the installation inside the house the way I wanted it. Now easy to build the installation out with ouside mesh nodes on both sides of the house if this is needed.[Patio on the backside of the house [afternoon and evening spot) and a small place with a table and chairs on the front side of the house [morning spot, to get the sunrise)][I did not really get the chance last year to check if it works as is, because of my health situation then]. If I had opted for a Starlink connection I would have dumped it now, as early as practically possible.

Thank you for sharing, @Spekulatius, Absolutely shocking. One do not - never - insult customers. And if I was a SpaceX investor, I would have been all over Mr. Musk by now. Absolutely fantastic entrepreneur, awesome at getting things to happen, and yet again, deep down, he is just a street boy, with very bad manners, a very bad example of the new generation of the newly and filthy rich.

I thought it would be interesting to ask Grok [embedded in X] : 'What is Trumps alternative reality?' : Pretty good answer, I would say.

Charlie [ @dealraker ], Based on developments in USA in markets, interest rates, inflation, GDP, debt, employment, unemployment, etc., - all managed by a steady hand of the current administration personalized by USA CFO Scott Bessent, steady as we go, in cooperation with the POTUS, cabinet and congress? - It certainly would be great. -You may eventually end up being right, while I don't believe so by now. Maybe, deep down, some kind of reason, logic and responsibility eventually may end up surfacing down the road. At least some kind of cost consciousness seems to prevail by now.
-
Mike [ @cubsfan ], That is actually - by logic - a question, that qualifies very well, and trying to think about the whole mess from that perspective, actually provides a way to decompose this whole calamity into slices : Date cut 1 : The moment in time just before Validimir Putin officially annnounced the Russian aggresion against Ukraine as special military operation. Date cut 2 : The moment in time just before Russia de facto annexed Crimea. These two date cuts create in time three sepate periods in time being : Time after Date cut 1 : Ukrainian land occupied by Russia by now embraced by the ongoing intiatives for peace since Russia started its most recent agression against Ukraine. Time between Date cut 1 and Date cut 2 : The pople of the occupied territories in the south and east of Ukranie should decideto which state to belong, by referendum. Time before Date cut 2 : The Crimean people should decide to wich state to belong, by referendum, - - - o 0 o - - - Mike [ @cubsfan ], I may likely be the only human being on this planet to think so. -But you asked, and I answered.
-
Mike [ @cubsfan ], Yes, serious misjudgements about the ruler of Russia earlier have been proved during the last three years, and have thereby surfaced by now, by what factual has happened during that period. I only brought the past up related to the POTUS yesterday questioned if he could trust the NATO allies of USA, where USA activated NATOs article 5 the day after 9/11 in the war against terror, where Denmark did did stand up to its duty following USA by its side into the Middle East. If this is not a satisfactory reply by me for you, you need to let it go from here. I'm not going to get sucked into a 30 days ban, the 30 days ban in the downpipe vortex containing you and me, after a travel through the 30 days ban gutter.
-
Mike [ @cubsfan ], You need to let this type and line of rear view looking posting go from here. It's for historians. It's not relevant for looking at the situation from here on forward looking.

@Spekulatius and @Sweet, I have read somewhere, and it was a statement from a Polish public servant, that there is no risk of Starlink being pulled by Musk for Ukraine, because the bills for Ukraines use of Starlink are being paid by Poland, as an integral part of Polands ongoing support of Ukraine. I'm aware of the information in the beginning of the war, that Musk made it available for Ukraine for free, though. I found it : Reuters - World - Europe [February 22nd 2025] : Poland is paying for Ukraine's Starlink subscription, its deputy PM says. - - - o 0 o - - - It's Saturday, the sun is shining from a clear blue sky, lots of light and 13o C! The spring has finally arrived!

Yes, agree, absolutely like drumming on empty oil barrels.

It's been a while since we last talked about jerky feathered creatures - I think this parrot tops @rkbabangs chicken Ofelia! -I'm not totally sure what's it's saying, but doesen't it sound like a quarrel between the female owner and the parrot about the Russian-Ukranian war, the parrot going totally over board? -
Sure, @Sweet, Your last sentence is the conclusion. We have to approach this forward looking. I'm perhaps just very annoyed by POTUS talking about USD 350 billion here related to US support to Ukraine. It's such a round of *BS* - everytime, and it does not get anymore correct by POTUS constantly repeating it. - - - o 0 o - - - Edit : https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114121576367163341
-
Mike [ @cubsfan ], Come on. You are talking here about 200,000 americans dead related to to WW2. Have you forgot Pearl Habour and who decided it to be so? It was the incumbent POTUS at that time, wasen't it? - - - o 0 o - - - Edit : https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/
-
Mike [ @cubsfan ], Where have I done that? I have only - indirectly - suggested that your POTUS likely will fare better going forward not insulting and threatening allies.
-
More insults and threats from POTUS against NATO allies : The Times and The Sunday Times [March 7th 2025] : Donald Trump threatens NATO if members don't pay more . Here in Denmark, we have had our fair share of soldiers coming home in coffins from following USA in the war against terror, primary in the Middle East, after article 5 in the NATO pact was triggered by USA just after 9/11, and our share of veterans, with ruined lifes also. I'm speechless.
