Buffett/Berkshire - general news
John Hjorth replied to fareastwarriors's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
@ratiman, thank you, I diden't even know that Gevalia is a KHC coffee brand. It's my households coffe brand, no excemptions. We grind our own coffee beans ourselves just before each brewing. coffee. -
The Independent [September 2nd 2025] : Trump responds to viral rumour claiming he's dead - - - o 0 o - - - POTUS' comments aren't even unreasonable here, it's been long Labour Day weekend. In fact it's ridiculous, and it's actually disgusting, malicious, mean, evil talk. Race to the bottom continues. Anyone talking similar to that to me in my own house gets thrown out, immediately.

Pipeline missing in the chart, though : Wikipedia : Baltic pipe, by now fully operational, delivering gas from Equinor's gas fields. And while we're talking about Norwegian peoples complacency, here is a photo of Nicolai Tangen arriving at work at Bankplassen, Oslo, showing off his wheels [running wheel, no chauffeur, though!], while his uber cool flat on the southern end of Akers Brygge is in walking distance, workplace www.nbim.no : YouTube - NasDAQ : Inside the Mind of a CEO: Nicolai Tangen on Work-Life Balance and Financial Advice, including a bit about his morning routine at the end.

Bloomberg - Politics [September 2nd 2025] : US Pushes Back on Italy Counting Sicily Bridge as NATO Asset - - - o 0 o - - - lol! - Italians, mind you! -With Italians, you always have to have an eye on every finger, or risk of getting cheated or stiffed is always there in Italian Politics! Always the same! This time, the costs of a large bridge!

I stumbled on this post on LinkedIn, by Oddbjørn Dybvads colleague Adnan Hadziefendic today, book now available at Amazon and Adlibris, links in the post : - - - o 0 o - - - Edit : Book page on REQ website [with links to where to get it] First I tried to order it at Adlibris [Sweden] , demanded Swedish zip-code to accept order, then created website access to the Swedish Amazon website , just find the book ripped away in a rush on release day, marked as '1st' on 'Best sellers' list! *Sigh!* . Then finally found it at Danish Saxo.com - my favorite online book store, where I have free postage, and delivery to the door - DKK 304,75! - Now I'm happy again! - - - o 0 o - - - Next, the Lady of the House heard about all my troubles, then she threatened to file for divorce, if did I not soon got my book hoarding under control! , then I replied : 'Nope, it's out of the question! ... You see, I'm not married to you !'. <end of conversation>

Silly season [in Danish called Cucumber time ['Agurketid']] isen't over yet in Sweden : 'Moose hunting is the biggest cause of death for moose in Sweden.' -
Mike [ @cubsfan ]. After an almost 'post storm' from you here on CofB&F, I have to ask you, what is it really, that you try to accomplish by your posting here in this topic? -Your relevant and to the point comments are at certainly different places more welcome than here, maybe even missed!

*chuckle* - Great, just great ... the real nagging question for me personally here is ' : 'What is the lead time between becoming financial independent, to start - fully and in total, - to think as such? All we all know is that 'no man is island', we're all a part of of a community, - one way, or an other.

@Cod Liver Oil, It not exactly that way I perceive things work here [European companies becoming more entrepreneural and less static, so to say 'out of nothing'], thereby also not what I wanted and intended to express above. It's about the continued build-up of abundance of capital and the relentless pressure for return on that capital building up, causing companies to get their act together, because of shareholder pressure for that. Exactly the same way as in America, creating fast guys with a vision for investors, while it is in reality all about self enrichment, the arrival of so callled 'helpers' [Buffett terminology] entities Brookfield-like, growing at simply breathtaking growth rates, getting into really something that eventually may matter on scale, i.e. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, one of the original five guys own a large post of shares of a small local bank on operating the isles south of Sealand, called Lolland-Falster in his personal CIP holding company, just for sake of the giggles and the heck of it [], no football team yet, though! His name is Jakob Baruël Poulsen. Now zoom in on 'Baruël', pronounced in Danish 'Baryl' : The Danish Dictionary - ordnet.dk : Baryler : If I give this in the two boxes a spin in Google Translate, I get : 'troublemaker, element, disturber of the peace, troublemaker, troublemaker, chaos sj., baryler, varyler gl., loon, laban, a bad boy, root1, gamin' 'naughty, rascal, rascal, bully, bully sprout, baryler, a worse one, scumbag neds., scumbag neds., brat neds., scruple, degenerate kids neds.' [Elaboration : 'neds' is an abbreviation for 'nedsættende', means 'condescending'] Can it even become more 'American'? [Personally I think the widest common deminator in the above must be 'punk', btw ] - - - o 0 o - - - Banks fleecing, screwing over their dumb customers over here, exactly the same way as it happens in the US is an other example.

@Cod Liver Oil, Thank you for sharing. While I'm a great fan of Roger Lowenstein, and will read this piece later with interest, I will argue that he does not know a lot about i.e. European Capitalism, among other things how fast it is changing in these years on this side of the Atlantic pond. Because it really is.

Mike [ @cubsfan ], To me personallly, your posts related to recent US-Denmark-Greenland relations developments doesen't really appear to qualify.

This is so friggin' simple to solve that no matter what country it is about, Americans get a longlasting and high level discussion discussion out of election fraud, while the real issue at hand is alll this long lasting and high level discussion are based on the assumption on the assumption, that US election procedures are best standard possible, whjile it's actually not in any way the case. It's about digitalisation and simple and design of basic internal electoral controls and procedures. Here we are getting summonded by a physical letter, sent to us by mail, this letter contains a voting slip attached. It you want to vote by mail, you have to physically return by mail your voting slip. If not included in your vote by mail, your vote is disapproved as non-counting. By apearance at your voting location, your voting slip is phusically withdrawn from you as the price paid for the ballot list to vote, and paired with a dummy copy only existing in one physical specimen. One is asked to have ID available at appearance at the voting place, and all have such even if you have no passport or driver license. It's here called a 'health card'.

I would personally also add : Danish A. P. Møller - Mærsk A/S in this pile. CofB&F A. P. Møller - Mærsk A/S topic.

Name calling is in it's nature inflationary [name calling calls for and induces name calling], and in a way also highly contagious for adjectives near by and their application, the infection spreading into primarily adjectives. It's like Einsteins theory of relativity, the same thing, but measured as something different. A bit more than four years ago this today wonderful place was a sewer of politics and hostility among certain board members, a bit more than 8 years ago this place was what I today would call a totally crazy and disgusting helllhole of madness, evil and hostility among certain board members, today, pretty much all such board members back then involved in those particular activities, now long gone. Please think a bit about this, not only if this place is precious to you, but especially if it its not, because someone may perhaps consider this place more precious than you do. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

NRK - nrk.no [August 31st 2025] : Norwegian Government to buy frigats from Great Britain - - - o 0 o - - - Up to 5 frigates in all, from Britsh BAE, total price estimated to NOK 135 billion. -That's a lot of money for a country with 5.6 million citizens. But no sweat for Norway [flush in money], who by now is operating 4 frigates. The new ones will be equipped especially for detection and tracking of, and hunt on, submarines. So European NATO countries defense spending ramp-up continued.

Buffett/Berkshire - general news
John Hjorth replied to fareastwarriors's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
Warren Buffett turning the corner of 95 years age today. Now that's certainly something, and a high age indeed! Good that he has started taking it more easy in recent years. He has served Berkshire Hathaways shareholders very well, including the Lady of the House, I, our parents, when they were alive, and quite a few other family members. I think about if and hope that he is at fairly good health with a clear and reasonably sharp mind still, otherwise it sucks getting so old. My thoughts now and then circles also around his wife Astrid Minks, which we haven't heard anything about for years. -
Jay in Kyiv is certainly not without humor! 'All air defense units now protecting the palaces of Trumps boss' lol! - Made for a great start of my Friday with a good laugh! - - - o 0 o - - - Seriously : The stories keeps popping up, more and more, this is about to become a serious problem for Russia, and Ukraine hasen't to ask anybody about it, because it's done by the use of their own stuff, stuff they the Ukrainians have built so to say 'inhouse'.

@Marco Van Basten, To the best of my recollection, last year, and no available information released about this 'very entrepreneurial' youngsters background, nor about upbringing, but called 'Swedish' by the Danish authorities, for sure. Mind you, a 13 year old kiddo with a gun on a mission, taking the metro from Malmö to Copenhagen C, next most likely the subway [called S-toget, [The S-train]], to the S-tog station nearest 'the adress'. Fr*ggin' crazy stuff. -And most likely not half in advance, the rest when job done. [<- I coulden't help it ...]
-
@Blugolds, I personally don't have any answers to that either. I'm not at all sure about what it really is. If you look carefully to the west from Finland, you see Sweden. What is there to say about 'cosy' Sweden? In that particular regard? Absolutely fr*gging crazy stuff going on, from time to time, for at least the last 10 - 15 years there, with guns and young persons, who somehow have lost any kind of compas - morally, or in any other way, going down a absolutely no-go path, totally unacceptable behavior, from a societal point of view, actions by society criminalized, while the person is 'totally away from the window', totally indifferent to any kind of societal punishment by law. I personally think it may perhaps root much, much deeper, perhaps involving 'the ovarial lottery', perhaps desparate parents who for whatever reason have not succeded in bringing up one or more children, that they likely never should have had in the first place, because of the parents own problems not dealt with appropiately, the society unable to - by experience - to spot it in advance, and intervene, before things gets out totally out of hand. We actually feel it here in Denmark, to the east [Copenhagen], not other places in Denmark, so far : 13 year old Swedish kids taking on contracts to take out [kill], by gunning, likely narco related criminal Danish 'subjects' for i.e. DKK 50,000, ordered by someone other Swedish likewise narco related criminal thug, who have something to settle with the Danish subject. It may appear almost unbelievable, but the Danish Police simply can't make up such totally crazy sh*t.

Mike [ @cubsfan ], lol! . [Somehow it seems like it worked here? - I mean : diden't the intensity and velocity in this topic today cool down - just a bit?] - - - o 0 o - - - Danish [English follows below] : 'Den der kun tager sjov for sjov og alvor kun alvorligt han har faktisk fattet begge dele lige dårligt!' Piet Hein, Gruk. English : 'He who only takes jokes for the sake of jokes and seriousness only seriously has actually understood both equally badly!' Grook, by Piet Hein. - - - o 0 o - - - We simply all owe ourselves here on CofB&F - each and any of us - to do our very best to get along. Some discussions simply aren't fruitful to continue and keep going. My best guess is, based on my personal perception of the persons populating CofB&F, their knowledge and their personalities [a compliment], is that these discussions going on here in this topic has never moved as much one single vote anywhere. Discussion is certainly OK, but there still exists a point, where continued discussion reallly doesen't make any sense.

Reuters, reporting from Bunol, Spain today, looks like awesome fun to me! :

What's going in this topic these days is very similar to the yearly event La Tomatina taking place in Spain exactly today! - Perfect timing, actually. - Welcome to the CofB&F tomato mud puddle!
