So, with a clean sheet, here is what I would buy: Safran & GE in aerospace, Airbus in aerospace although a smaller position that GE or Safran, RBC bearings in aerospace/defense/industrials, Amrize in cement/sand/gravel, New England Realty (NEN) and St Joe in real estate, Moody's, Visa, Ryan in insurance brokerage, Fairfax. (I am long all of these names.)

Have you looked at TYL & MSFT? Thank you.

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and move to Russia or North Korea? I wll be happy to pay for your ticket if you stay there at least till 2029.

We will replace the rugged collectivism with warm collectivism! Hundred million victims of Mao, Stalin, et all didn't realize that they should be grateful for warm collectivism!

ELME and AIV are another two. I am NOT involved in either. -
They will have a knife, so what's the difference? At least with a gun you can protect yourself and your family during a riot. In the USSR, murder rate was sky high and yet you were not allowed to own, let alone carry handguns. In Switzerland and Israel, almost every male has or had a gun at home, and crime rates were very low.

Listen, you are a tough guy? O'k, spend a month in a neighborhood of my choosing spending a dozen hours a day outside. Let's see how you survive.

There were several holds that did extremely well. Safran, GE, and Tel-Aviv stock exchange for instance, up 88%, 60.6% in USD, and up 165% in USD respectively.

I cannot speak for the entire US. In NYC and its suburbs, people would laugh at your sister's salary and benefits package. NYC public school teachers contribute zero to their health care coverage, salary for 1st year teachers = USD 68,902 for those with bachelor degrees and USD 77,455 for those with masters. Teachers with experience earn more. For instance a teacher with 8 years of experience and masters earns $103,291 USD and $124K with 15 years of experience. Oh, and as for pensions, an acquaintance retired after 40 years of teaching at 65, receives a $150K per year pension.

I am truly happy for you. Having lived in NYC during the Crown Heights riots, Covid and 9/11, I don't want to be defenseless in case there is a riot or a terrorist attack involving firearms/knives.
-
I agree. However, countries were gun ownership has been banned leave normal citizens defenseless.

You are a funny guy. How much are doctors and nurses paid in Canada versus the US? What doctor or nurse would go for a 50-70% pay cut? OBGYN make more than USD million in NYC, and twice that much in rural areas. Given the pay packets in US universities for researchers, and salary+benefits for public school teachers in the US, my guess is that people are not going to go.

Would you mind sharing the names of the really cheap stuff below $100MM and profitable? Thank you.

It's not just defense. US has been subsidizing the entire world when it comes to pharmaceuticals. Why are Americans paying for Europeans and others medications by paying 2-5x the price elsewhere in the world?

You are right, but let's remember how we get there in the first place. Europeans wanted this break-up. Spain spending 1% of GDP on defense, and the rest between 1 and 2% of GDP, except for Poland and Baltics. So the European allies did not have anything to contribute to mutual defense besides empty rhetoric. Obama appealed to them in vain for eight years and they told him yeah, sure. Trump demanded the same in 2017, and what did they do? Told him to fuck off, after all welfare and all the Syrian and North African "refugees" were going to defend them. Now he said ok, you told us for thirty years to fuck off, so now you are on your own. You wanted this? You got it. No more free-riding for Europeans. Besides, what's the difference between Russia and EU? There is no freedom of speech in either. In Russia you get jailed for criticism of Putin, in Western Europe for criticism of immigration or homosexuality. (I am obviously saying this in jest, but there is a grain of truth in every joke.)

Yes, precisely. There is nothing wrong with options if you know what you are doing and either don't have leverage, or can handle it.
-
No, it is not. For one, if the facts or your perception of them changes, you can cancel the limit order before it is executed, with a sold put, not always. For instance if you wake up one morning and the plant burned down, the stock will open down 25%, but you cancelled your limit order, but with the put option you are stuck. The more important issue is that this is leverage, and not all investor know how to handle it.
-
It is also dangerous if it means that you are leveraged. Markets can and occasionally do crash.
-
You have to change even though it is very hard. My best investment happened after I owned a "turnaround" for 3 years, saw that the progress was going as I expected, and doubled my position paying 60% more than my first lot.
