cubsfan Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 1 minute ago, Parsad said: So what the hell does that have to do with Canada and punitive tariffs? If you've got a problem with Mexico, fuck up Mexico. Why make threats to Denmark and Greenland or issue punitive tariffs on Canada? If your son is misbehaving, are you gonna shit-kick your two other daughters because of his behavior? Cheers! I'm passing on the Canada discussion. People are way too sensitive. I've posted before about defense expenditures, etc. Not worth getting everyone upset. There is no doubt that Mexico & China are the true villians here. Always have been, always will be. Canada is our closest ally - and sometimes families don't see eye-to-eye.

We cancelled our trip to Orlando and just dumped our tickets to a show on Broadway, which was in May. Watching a hockey game tonight, first time I have ever witnessed a Canadian crowd boo the American anthem. https://nypost.com/2025/02/01/sports/canadian-nhl-fans-boo-the-star-spangled-banner-after-trumps-tariffs-become-official/ Since Canada has been asked for a divorce...I hope we get the summer house. Interesting times. I fully agree with you...but at the same, no one wins in a divorce really. And this marriage has been going on for a long-time until Agent Orange decided he wanted to work on a fourth divorce! Cheers!
Parsad Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 7 minutes ago, james22 said: Or you could just fulfill your ally obligations and secure your border and fairly contribute to our mutual defense. Instead you threaten our security? Not very ally-like. Or you could just talk to your ally and work on increasing security. If your wife forgets to lock the front door a couple of times, are you going to ask for a divorce? The irrationality of the consequences is so extreme compared to the error. Cheers!

But the extreme reaction isn't going to get the desired outcome this time without consequences. It could have been handled with far more diplomacy and tact, but then we're dealing with someone who has almost no diplomacy skills whatsoever. Cheers!

We re-negotiated NAFTA the last time Trump was around. Why should we ever negotiate in good faith with the US if you will just turn around and do this?

Buckeye Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) As an American, who loves Canada, and its people, I wish we could import some of that friendliness from our neighbors up north. We could use a little more of that Edited 14 hours ago by Buckeye

cubsfan Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I think, perhaps, many of the Canadian members decided not to watch this CBC News video. Your guys, not ours, discuss the issue of Trump tariffs from the security/drug viewpoint. Our good friends @gary17 and @maplevalue provided the video and context on page 5 of this thread. Peace gentlemen.
james22 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago now as to why Donald Trump has really set his sights on Canada your book title kind of gives it away - how China is really the missing piece of the puzzle here. tell us your thesis. you're right to point to my book. The very first edition on the cover shows a graphic photo of Vancouver on world map with fenyl pills exploding out of Vancouver going around the world so you could say that for 10 years I've been researching the thesis. that Canada has become a node of essentially Chinese infiltration and organized crime activity especially in Vancouver and this was hard for people to believe but Vancouver has become a production hub for China and a transshipment hub for fenal precursors to the point where it's now established that Canada is a fental exporter nation and so this gets to what Donald Trump is saying it's hard for many people to believe that Canada could be put in the same category as Mexico in terms of endangering the United States with fenel with illegal immigration and human trafficking but my research has showed that uh indeed this is the fear and concern of us intelligence Community US military and law enforcement really for decades that Canada's weak enforcement against transnational crime weak control of borders has allowed International organized crime with linkages to hostile States most specifically China but also Iran middle eastern states that are not friends the United States to have set up very strongly in Canada you know as a Canadian I have to say I'm not pleased with Donald Trump's rhetoric I think there's a lot of the art of the deal going on when he's trolling and saying you're going to be the 51st state but I do say that there's very deep concerns that Canada is being used by China in a very sophisticated economic and really criminal way

Think what ever you want about Trudeau but he has been calling Trump trying to have a conversation about the tariffs since Inaguration. Trump has not taken his calls from the US's closest ally. That is f'ed up.

Peace gentlemen. The irony in the video, if you believe it (which you seem to do), is that it shows how Biden's administration has been decreasing the amount of immigrants coming in from the Mexican border since 2022 in massive amounts. But apparently, Biden made zero progress on that front according to Agent Orange! Cheers!

It went down in 2024, since Biden finally understood that immigration was a issue he would lose the election on - so he slowed it down.
cubsfan Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) This video discusses the China/Canada fentanyl business in some detail. And surprisingly - both individuals are Canadians. Thank @james22 for this. Edited 14 hours ago by cubsfan
Spooky Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I like Americans, you are some of the friendliest people around and a lot of you are smart, resilient and resourceful. But it is sad to see the direction this great nation is going in, tearing up the global institutions and alliances you built after WWII. These policies are so short sighted - you are just shooting yourselves in the foot in the long run. Global opinion of your country has been steadily decreasing over many years. Cancelling all foreign aid and assistance eliminates a key tool of American soft power. You think that you can go it alone in the world but you can't. Everything is so interconnected. So many other countries want the standard of living that you have become accustomed to and are hungrily working for it and will continue to become more competitive and innovative. New trade relationships are forming across the world without the US involved. I hope you reverse course and take back the mantle of the leaders of the free world.

Many of the global institutions you reference are the problem. The UN, WHO, ICC, etc - corrupt beyond belief, brought us COVID, anti-semitic Those relationships are being rethought - and not soon enough. We should give foreign aid to countries that want to kill us? I don't think so. Who are you kidding.
