Huh - so they are violating Federal Law - and that's ok, even if the laws were passed by the Congress?

So we call all just go out and break any laws that we feel like - and let the courts catch up to us.

Sounds like a great way to insure the destruction of a civilization. Laws just don't matter.

Jesus...of course it's not ok, but the system gives everyone a process to follow...which happens to be the law!

To ensure the destruction of civilization, the fastest way to do that is to ignore the laws that give everyone due process and respect for their rights.

If their rights don't matter, why should yours?  Ensuring due process is every citizen's duty...otherwise one day, your rights will be put by the wayside.

Cheers!

Trump the pragmatist said it’s not feasible to provide due process for millions of people. So at least he’s admitting it…

Didn’t we lock up a bunch of Japanese Americans in WW2. That was a Democrat. This whole ordeal kind of reminds me of that

That doesn’t actually say anything other than they should due process.

Which bring me back to the original point, other than prove then have a legal right to stay, what exactly is there to do?

You either have that right and you prove it, or you don’t.  You can appeal is a third option, but an appeal doesn’t have to be accepted either.

No matter how many times one agrees that deporting illegals is correct just don’t trample on rights and don’t be inhumane, the answer is: “they shouldn’t have broken the law”.

What do you mean by inhumane treatment.  You can be put into jail for years in other countries - is that humane?

Many illegals immigrants don’t follow the process Parsad, otherwise they’d just leave the country.  It’s why ICE are doing what they are doing in the first place.  If you apply for asylum and it’s rejected you leave.  If you don’t you get booted from the country.  If you entered the country illegally, you get deported.  That is the process.

What if you are someone who came here legally, but accidentally let your visa expire or forgot to renew.  Now you are considered illegal...you have the right to due process to allow a judge to decide if it was deliberate or accidental.

How about if your parents came illegally, but you were born here...you have birthright citizenship, but no formal documentation.  You have the right to due process.

There are many people who come here as refugee applicants...or seek asylum...or are here to work on various visas...or here on visitor visas.  No criminal record.  They haven't done anything wrong except to renew, extend or reapply for status.

Cheers!

Just because other countries behave one way, doesn't mean the U.S. or other countries should behave that way.

If your neighbor is an asshole, doesn't mean you should be one too!  It's just the U.S. President and his team are choosing to be assholes presently.

Cheers!

If you overstay, and are deported.  Reapply.  It’s nobodies fault but your own.

If you forget, but realise your error, go be honest.  Take your medicine.

Edit - with birthright that’s for the courts.  In most countries being born there is not an automatic right to citizenship.  US might actually be unique in that regard.

That’s not my point.  My point is that getting deported is not inhumane, other countries do FAR worse.

Doesn't matter...zero!  There is nothing that a citizen should protect more than the right to due process and protection of their rights and freedoms.  Not even your family!

Because without those rights and the rule of law, you and your family, including generations of your family, could be subjugated and reduced to non-citizens with no rights or due process.  It's why Gandhi and Nelson Mandela spent years in prison...among many others in the global civil rights movement who even gave their lives!

No one said getting deported is inhumane.  It depends on how you do it.  As I've stated over and over, there is due process even for illegal immigrants in the United States, Canada, Europe, etc...you cannot simply bypass that process.  Cheers!

But Parsad, all they have to do is prove they have a legal right to stay.  That is the process.

The illegals immigrants by definition don’t have that right.

If you applied for asylum and got rejected but decided to stay - you are there illegally.  That is a process.

If you enter the country without declaring yourself you are also there illegally.  You are deported and can present yourself again.

Other than proving your have a right to stay, I don’t get what this process is.

If it’s just appeal after appeal and hoping for the next president or whatever, that’s deliberate abuse.  It’s what’s happening in the UK, the government struggles to deport people because of endless legal challenges.

I'm sure there is abuse...no different than what we are seeing on the opposite end now.  Children being swept up...families broken apart...legal citizens incorrectly rounded up...not sure wrongs on both sides make everything ok.

If you are the child of an illegal, but have birthright citizenship, but don't have your documentation because your parents held it or misplaced it...they sweep you up.

If you are an approved asylum seeker, but misplaced your documentation...they sweep you up.

If you entered the country legally, but misplaced your documentation...they sweep you up.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can get on this.  Cheers!

We don’t have a grace period in the UK for either of these.  If you let it expire and something happens your house or car, that’s on you… I’ve never forgot.

In each of those cases, prove you have a right to stay.

I get that, that is the process, I am not arguing against that, but to my knowledge this IS what happens.

So everyone says they ‘need due process’ - I agree - a short period of time to provide they are there legally.

Funny, no one chooses to answer the most basic question:  why do you condone states and cities disobeying Federal Law?

The most basic laws of this land are enumerated in our Constitution which are being violated daily by the federal government. How many more examples must I post? How many more supreme court dissenting opinions must we publish? I know, I know, "who cares".

And when those remaining functioning minds in American society asked "why", the response was a sea of made-in-china red hats with froth forming at the corners of their wearer's mouths, all powered by a single Trump-branded brain cell between them...I'll spare my mental health! 🙂

NO!  Of course not.

Sanctuary cities are breaking the law - that is the whole point!

Ok! Then prosecute the cities

Irrelevant to the point of respecting the dignity of people whether US citizens or illegals

there’s a less dramatic way of doing it, like Obama did, but it loses the affect of tickling Stephen Miller’s fancy

If you pay your auto insurance monthly in the UK, most insurers provide a 7-14 day grace period on a missed payment.  Cheers!

That's what they generally decide to argue during due process.  Now is there abuse...of course.  But change the law to reduce that...not disregard it altogether.  Cheers!

All: so sorry for referring to ICE as Gestapo. I must have the same case of TDS that JD Vance has in comparing Trump to Hitler.

LOL!  He never did that...no...not him.  And Trump also never said "Hitler did some good things".  Cheers!

You clearly don't know what Gestapo was.  If ICE was Gestapo, you'd be lined against a wall and shot just for criticizing them.

Not necessarily. The Gestapo worked mostly with snitches and through intimidation. You just never knew who worked for/ with them and what they would do or show up. Intimidation and spreading fear in every citizen is much productive and effective than putting people against the wall and shooting them.

Watch the movie “Inglorious Bastards”.  Christopher Waltz plays a Gestapo Jew Hunter better than anyone else.
