My son had the flu 3 weeks ago and my wife got it a week later. It's a bad one this year with a high fever and bad cough.  My son had a fever of over 104 at one point.  I never got it.  I took Vitamin D3 every day (I do anyway in the winter), Echinacea (I know the science is week here, but has no side effects), and a zinc coldeeze or two every day.  Plus I washed my hands constantly when home (if your hands aren't red and sore then you aren't washing them enough).

I didn't know about Sambucol.

Interesting on the Vitamin D.  I am no expert but is seems that if one if deficient in any number of vitamins or minerals then that can only hinder the body's use of them as building blocks for immunity defense.

Thanks for the research.

I would think that as well, but there have been numerous studies trying to show the same for vitamin C and they have all been inconclusive.  Vitamin D is the only one I know of that has been shown effective against cold and flu.

Also, maybe a good idea to run a humidifier.

Really interesting about the humidity and flu.

Article on nutrition

https://www.nature.com/articles/1601819

"Effects of nutrients on the immune system

Without adequate nutrition, the immune system is clearly deprived of the components needed to generate an effective immune response. Human malnutrition is usually a complex syndrome of multiple nutrient deficiencies. However, observations in laboratory animals deprived of one dietary element, as well as findings in those rare patients with a single nutrient deficiency, have confirmed the crucial role of several vitamins, minerals and trace elements in the maintenance of immunocompetence. This includes vitamin A, beta-carotene, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, riboflavin, iron, zinc, and selenium (Grimble, 1997; Chandra, 2002)."
