  1. I doubled up my holding today. This is a classic arbitrage a la Buffett where 1)you assess the probabilities that a higher bid will come. Which for me is very high. 2) How much gain you will make if this event happen. I'm guessing a bid around 1.2-1.3$. 3) Ho much you lose if this deal doesn't happen. For me, you don't lose in this situation because EBITDA in 1-2 years will be enough to justify an even higher share price. Also commodity and small cap stocks have rebounded from their december 2011 lows. And I also think management will not proceed with the vertical acquisition they were planning to do if FBK stays by itself.
  2. 10 year treasuries on the upside after FED extends low-rate. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^tnx
  3. Bmichaud, you should take into consideration that bac won't pay taxes before a long time. That is the thesis for BB. PTPP = PP.

  5. yeah but we all know that FBk has lagged those two in the past..
  6. SHLD stock has lost 40% in 3 weeks! where is IV, closer to 60$ or 35$? I find it weird that this compagny is taking debt to buy his own stock.
  7. Prem might think that Resolute is undervalued, but i have yet to see cash flows on Resolute's financial statements to convince me the same
  8. That is the kind of response i wanted to hear from management. Of course when your biggest shareholder is not with you, your power is limited. But could be enough to get a higher offer, something like 1.20-1.25$.
  9. HDFC Bank (HDB-N) has my vote for a possible 10 bagger EDIT: article on last 10 years performance for HDFC: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/how-hdfc-bank-is-triumphing-in-india-12082011.html
  10. Not that i know anything about, but isn't it WEB who is shopping in Japan for cheap company right now? I'm sure he thought about the yen before going on the hunt in Japan.
  11. I'm shocked! I've been disapointed by the drop in share price in the past months, but i was getting excited lately by maybe having the opportunity to buy more at maybe .50$/share. Now that won't happen.. This is an opportunistic bid at 1$. Sure hope other shareholders do like me and reject this offer.
  12. My guess is that Prem is realizing that insurance companies in this low interest rate environment are not so good business and that this environment could be here for a long time.
  13. Down 16%, commodities and financials were probably the worst place to be in the last 3-4 months. And holding BAC, Fbk, SSW, I have suffered. Also, lost on shorts on VXX. By chance I had call on VXX to cap my losses. Still short VXX but with a stop order on it.
  14. Your post make a lot of sense but here in Canada we have both: free health service for population(pay by government) and low educatrion fees. But I don't think Canadian are known for their entrepreneurship spirit. Instead I think we have a tendancy to rely on our lands that are full of commodities (gold, copper, oil,..) and let foreigner extract it from the ground.
  15. So is anyone has found out how to get options on HKD? I use Interactive Broker and they don't seem to offer it. They seem to offer option on the Renmindi(RMB) though.
  16. That kind of shopping has been made for me. Next shopping phase will be if S&P500 goes below 1000.
  17. Europe will have to do something to fix the problem. Would I be German I wouldn't want to pay for Greece's bad behavior. I would kick them out of the Euro. http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2011/oct/13/does-euro-have-future/
  18. I'm not doing it full time but my first though concerning your situation is don't force return on your investment to necesserily happen in that 1st year. Just because you are doing it full time doesn't mean you should 'double' your return.. You still won't be able to control outside elements. Also don't micro manage your portfolio.. I tried to do it and it's been worse that if I would'nt have done it. ex: there was a stock I owned that kept on oscillating between 7-10$ back in forth. One time I decided to sell it a 10$.. only to see it go to 15-17$ right after. Hope that helps.
  19. this idea is like any investment: If stock goes up once you invest in it you will feel good about it this would probably work on a long term basis, but do you know many people that don't bother at all when they see an investment in the red. In this case you could have to live many years with the idea that the equity of your house is wipeout. Not a good feeling at all.
  20. in Montreal ( i live there) try: for a drink: Le Saint-Sulpice : http://www.lesaintsulpice.ca/fr/ Chez Paree : .. hum hum to eat: Le Steak Frites : http://www.steakfrites.ca/en there is a few in town. those suggestions are a good fit if you are between 25 and 45 years old.
  21. The incentives that Obama will put in place will/should target real estate buying.
  22. if interest incurred is from a capital that is used to earn a revenue (or capital gain) then it is tax deductable. A friend of mine had this idea that if you have money invested outside a RRSP or TFSA, and you have a mortgage, you then take the money to pay the mortgage, then, you withdraw the money through a HELOC, and invest it back. It is a way to deduct interest from your mortgage in Canada.
  23. This will always work because they call VIX the fear index. And all you have to do in this game is to be "fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful" - Warren Buffett.
  24. stock halted investors will have to go to China physically to try to get their money back..
