The democrats don't need political power. Trump is doing it for them (with help from Elon). People vote against candidates, not for candidates. It won't take too many results like yesterday as well as the impact of these tariffs for support in the house to disappear. There are already 4 republican senators who will vote against the "emergency" powers for tariffs on Canada. The one thing you haven't done is explain how these tariffs are good for the US. I will wait while you check with Fox for the talking points.
-
Is that for everyone? Do products take precedence over country or vice versa? At least all the confusion is cleared up and we have clarity on how it all will work.
-
Wait 10 minutes. That will change.
-
So Canada and Mexico appear to be exempt from the tariffs. Logically, every one of the.other countries will just ship thru Canada and Mexico. They've gone from being the worst offenders to the biggest beneficiaries in a matter of days.
-
It's very confusing. Canada has stated their willing to get rid of all tarriffs if US did the same. Thats reciprocal. So why is Trump putting tarriffs on things that are not reciprocal but calling it reciprocal? Edit: actually Canada and Mexico don't even show up on that list. Is this specific products?
-
Ok, but shouldn't they be hoping and pushing hard for higher rates if it leads to higher home prices?
-
Wouldn't JOE be the biggest beneficiary of higher rates then?

He didnt make housing more expensive, he made the building of new housing more expensive. And of course spaghetti-os would take care of themselves eventually (just like housing) but it's a question of how long and how much they would end up costing. There isn't an economy in the world that hasn't seen high inflation rates be massively detrimental and it's a continuing cycle unless you do something about it. Turkey tried the "let's just let inflation play out" for a while. Disaster. I can't think of one where that actually worked out.
-
My question was to Greg's reply. Higher interest rates don't make housing more expensive directly, they raise the cost of financing that house. The house price is unchanged. And for existing goods (housing, used cars etc) it often leads to lower prices to offset the higher interest charges. The entire point of interest rate increases is to dampen demand (and therefore price increases) by making the cost (not the good itself, the cost) less attractive while making savings more attractive. While there may be the odd circumstance where higher rates leads to higher prices (and i cant think of one off the top of my head), it's generally short term reactionary. No economy would ever raise interest rates in expectation of increasing prices. But come on. You guys are not stupid, you do a lot of detailed analysis. You know this! It's not statistical, it's reality. Greg appears to be arguing it because of a hatred for Powell and being long real estate. Thats not reason to throw common sense out the window.

You're not actually suggesting that higher interest rates leads to higher inflation are you?
-
If it was just reciprocal nobody would be complaining. But it's not (or who knows actually, nobody seems to know what's really going on). It's the tearing up of free trade agreements that made tariffs reciprocal at 0. And it's the whipsaw fluctuations in whats covered, whats not and at what rates. How can any business do planning and investing when they have no idea what their costs will be and what their customers will have to pay.

Apparently in order for X to make the interest payments in 4Q, xAI paid X $400m for what can only be assumed to be data access.

The facts are that the headd of the DoD shared attack plans on an unsecured app prior to execution. Whatever happened in the past is a separate discussion and deflection off of.the current issue. Go back and check how Hannity tells you to spin this. It's changing hourly.
-
Yes. The "whataboutism" is straight off of FoxNews.
-
There's ALWAYS going to be opposing media. Thats their job. The same arguments can be made daily for Fox News or half of the podcast crew. Blaming the messenger is always the last resort when the underlying issue is undeniable. Deflect, deflect, deflect. And that goes in both directions.
-
The issue is not the dildo at the Atlantic. That's the distraction and how they got caught. The issue is that they did it in the first place (and who knows what else where they didn't get caught). The longer it goes and deeper it gets, the worse it's becoming and harder it is to defend. Someone needs to fall on their sword.
-
Oh come on Greg. If this was a Democrat you'd be going rabid. Sharing military plans In advance on an unsecured network of personal devices is as bad as it gets. That nobody got hurt is not a win. I really don't get why the response has been deny, deflect and downplay. It's made the whole situation worse and is continuing to get worse as the responses get proven as lies. They need someone to take the bullet for it. The longer this stays in the public eye and the more that comes out, the worse the outcome. Have Hegseth resign and it all dries up and we move on.
-
Right? There are a lot of GOP who would be happy to see Hegseth go down.

Loyalty over competence

Wrong place for this discussion. Should be in General Discussion. Or better yet, Reddit. This looks like a red flag topic questionable for a stock board.

And its showing up in the birth rates. We are going to see population declines resembling the results of China's one-child policies of decades ago.
-
This! Exactly this. Correction: I reposted @dealrakerbut that post is now gone. The best description i heard for his support is "he pisses off the people who piss me off". It makes for a great opposition party but is the basis for terrible leadership. And of course once you show support you can no longer think independently without looking foolish for your previous support so you just go deeper into the cult. Sean Hannity made his career as an opinion person criticizing both parties and making common sense appeal. Then he went deep on Trump and lost the ability to make independent criticism without alienating the audience he took with him. So now he doesn't do opinion, he just parrots the party line even though most of the things are exactly what he would have ambushed years ago. Too deep to get out. That's cubs too.

Not to nitpick but it was Willie Sutton who said that not Jesse James.
