The voting map shown reflects land vs population. Land cant vote. Population votes. Except of course Senators where Wyoming has the same vote as California and Texas.

Don't forget to account for acquisition related earn out payments that ultimately flow thru the financing section of the cash flow statement as opposed to earnings.

I love his posts and wish he would write more. But I also have to say that now that he only publishes 1-2x per year the posts are kinda repetitive. Its always about how the market isnt as inflated as the media is screaming about and if you compare PE multiples with interest rates its actually pretty normal. It was a great take the first couple of times he wrote it but now I wish he would get back to individual stocks and broader topics.

They did change the entire leadership of retail 2 weeks ago so maybe this was the plan all along? Steve Hearn is relocating from London for it so this is not just a temporary fix.

Movies and TV shows (general recommendation thread)

Loved the first 2 seasons of The Diplomat. It was smart, fast paced, lots of twists. I thought the 3rd was good but not up to the standard of the first 2. Its like they were trying too hard. -
Thats pretty meaningful. A "personal leave of absence" is corporate-speak for "why dont you sit this one out for a while bro? We will keep paying you but let's get someone to clean up the mess and then we will figure out what to do with you."

Having read thru it now I will say that the short seller wasnt wrong in their concerns. They might have played up the significance of it to the overall business but their points were legit. How much of that led to the price coming down 50% vs the fact that it was just ridiculously overvalued at the time is an open question. The real test will come out over the next few quarters as the contingent payouts have now largely been worked through. So we will see how much margins are impacted if in fact they were burying commissions in contingent payouts. The cash flows should now be much closer to EBITDA without the huge adjustments. If they make a large acquisition I would run away because its likely being used to hide the cash flow issues.

Why do short sellers seem to believe that the longer their report the more valid their argument. Haven't read it yet but given the stock was well over $50 at the time and its now $23, either they had some valid views or they got really lucky.

This feels like something crypto people are hoping will happen to support their investment rather than a realistic outcome. It doesnt solve anything for anyone except the crypto investor.

This has been the most benign hurricane season in decades (fingers crossed because its not over yet). Thats a couple of years in a row and I suspect that rates and over earning capital will push prices down. There will be some painful lessons if we have a bad season in the next year or two but thats generally the insurance cycle since time began.

I'm not sure any of that would work. Even if a CB wanted to issue BTC backed debt you still have to find buyers for that debt which is equivalent to finding buyers for the BTC so it wouldnt resolve the overhang. Also not sure what it accomplishes for the CB because they not only need to raise the cash to buy the BTC in the first place but are now paying real interest on the debt but the BTC doesnt generate any income. If u think this is a one time overhang of liquidity then you can just play the options anyways but there's nothing suggesting the price will recover down the road.

I'm guessing its because the consulting side outperformed at MMC while the brokerage underperformed. By a very small amount but the market is priced to perfection right now.
-
Boy the market is hating the MMC results - although they didn't seem that bad to me. Picking up a little more BRO at $88 while I can.

Like any type of insurance, nobody wants to pay for it when they dont need it but want max coverage when they do. The whole point of it is to even out costs across a broad population. The only reason anyone over 50 or with a pre existing condition can afford health insurance is because of those young people paying in. You pay in when youre young and receive the benefits of that when youre older. If they charged people over 65 the full cost of private insurance (unsubsidized) only a small fraction of the population could ever afford healthcare. Hence Medicare funded by taxes. I get hating it - especially if youre young or healthy or have no existing condition. But what's the alternative? People have complained for 20 years about the ACA (for good reason!), but nobody on either side has offered any kind of alternative. Ironically the govt shutdown hinges quite a bit on this and its going to be very interesting if the GOP get their way. Most of those beneficiaries are in red states and there's going to be a meltdown if people cant afford to go to the hospital. Or hospitals close.

So it looks like it's now $40bn not $20bn. Bessent talked about working on another $20bn facility that will be adjacent to the $20bn swap line. So doubling the price of Healthcare for millions of Americans while giving $40bn to Argentina. How is this America First?
-
Wouldn't that suggest that a common language doesnt have any meaningful influence on economics or politics? Argentina and Brazil are countries with enormous potential. And seemingly always will be.
-
Youre right! It was reported that the statement was released...as over inflated and factually incorrect. And then promptly ignored. It went nowhere because it was "politically motivated and error ridden". Whats worse, getting released and nobody notices, or getting released and then effectively ignored because its just propaganda?
-
And I have no control over what all media decides to ignore as useless propaganda
-
Well then let's support full transparency and release the Epstein files right?
-
I'm not talking about my news sources. I'm talking about ANY news sources. The fact that this shocking, expose isnt being reported on Fox or Newsmax or any legit social media or podcast (i dont include conspiracy sites) let alone the MSM, tells you it's nothing but propaganda.
-
A growing pile of criminal evidence hidden from America by the current government. Sounds about right. Let's start with the Epstein files shall we?
-
I'm gonna go A thru E. The fact that there are many, many reasons to choose from pretty much tells the story. But you can sit back and wait for it to "break". I'll make the popcorn.
-
Well then we can now sit back and watch this "story" explode then right?
-
Yeah that document got all the attention it deserved when it was released months ago. Pretty sure its not affecting anyone's legacy. Cult.
