Despite losing his team, Berkowitz is having a KILLER October http://www.google.com/finance?q=fairx Short term performance may mean nothing but it is interesting that (so far at least) selling at the point of maximum pessimism has proven to be the opposite of smart. (again)

Does anyone know of any stories of contrarian investors shorting Japanese RE in 1989-1990? That play probably worked out quite well.

Whitney Tilson's Long Lost Netflix Short
BargainValueHunter replied to Parsad's topic in General Discussion
I guess I have to give the guy credit for moving like the wind on this stuff but does he immediately phone the media or do they hound him for a quote on days like this? It seems that his moves are always public knowledge before the trade pie has even cooled! -
Damn, My Three Shorts Were Right!
BargainValueHunter replied to Parsad's topic in General Discussion
I actually shorted OPEN and NFLX in a practice account with leverage. I made a virtual killing!! lol. If Tilson had waited 6 months to put his trade on he would have a guru story to hang his hat on in 2011... -

Joel Greenblatt interview (10/19/11)
BargainValueHunter replied to valuebull's topic in General Discussion
I've learned over the years that you cannot based your judgement on one-sided stories, even it was written by Michael Lewis. So many opinions I formed in my 20s turned out to be too radical or pessimistic. My policy is like this, unless I am 100% sure about something, I declined to take side. It has saved me a lot of miseries. When Greenblatt decides to tell his side of the story, I'll be there to listen. -
Joel Greenblatt interview (10/19/11)

Not a fan of how things went down between him and Dr. Michael Burry but his insight is always interesting. -
Since Apple's founding marketing and design genius tragically passed it is looking more and more like Apple will slowly turn into Microsoft and it will give Nokia a bigger opening to be creative going forward. sounds like slashing prices to move out bad product. creative? When you are going up against the Apple juggernaut and everybody and his uncle is expecting a loss and huge market share declines and you have a soon to be dead OS before you ramp up your windows phones? Against all of that Nokia lives to fight another day, yeah, I'd say its creative. They have a long way to go but given the headwinds their unit shipments in Asia and Africa last quarter is very impressive.

SHLD option pricing -- strange?

As BAC stock continues to fall, interesting perspective
BargainValueHunter replied to Munger's topic in General Discussion
It's getting harder and harder to imagine a scenario where you lose money buying the BAC TARP warrants (The AIG and C warrants as well). -

The short squeeze in SHLD continues. My guess is because the market is going nuts for the LIZ spinoff. If Eddie and SHLD did the same thing? BAM!!! To the MOON!! http://www.usamarketnews.com/stock-market-updates/7157/stocks-on-the-move-at-nasdaq-–-liz-gmr-fro-nbg.html http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/10/12/liz-claiborne-sells-portfolio-of-brands/
