I am seeing some of the p/c insurers being sold way below book such as SBX and FSR. I am going to wait for a few months because hurricane season needs to pass.

Bought SLE I like the dividend they will payout and the spinoff will hopefully unlock the value.

The meaning of "Baupost"? Hedge Fund names in general......
eclecticvalue replied to JAllen's topic in General Discussion
haha, if you did name a fund liger capital. It would sound like a hybrid fund where you mix value and momentum together. -

Well if you haven't picked your name yet. Make sure the name of your fund sounds formidable and strong, or something that refers to something obscure. Pick an animal that hasn't been chosen yet. -

Next GGWPQ? Tronox Equity at $0.38...Plan Value of $2.50
eclecticvalue replied to Josh4580's topic in General Discussion
Plan, since there are doing a 1 to 5 reverse split would your intrinsic value be $10 a share? From what I understand that if C&H now owns 55% of the company, why do they need to take away 52% out of everyone shares? -

Good to hear the right reorganization is going to be approved. One question, Since Charlestown is going to buying at .35 do you think the shares will be trading at that price when the tender of shares occur? -
NP, Right they will not have to pay any more cash to acquire shares. Depending on the price they will try to get it delivered at an average discount between 96% to 110% before March 31st 2012.
-
Hey, you missed the fact there are more shares to be delivered and depending on the share price it will be in between 96% to 110% of the current share price.

Terrific Arnold Van Den Berg Interview!
eclecticvalue replied to Parsad's topic in General Discussion
I looked through the principles on the website and I agree it helped me understand what value investing is all about. Arnold Van Den Berg has done a great job synthesizing these details. -
Howard Marks: How Quickly They Forget
eclecticvalue replied to dcollon's topic in General Discussion
Hey here is a compilation of his memos from 1990-2010. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/75532225/Howard-Marks-Memos-1990-2010 Since it is a large file, it will take a long time to load. So just download it immediately. -
finding warrants - where to look?
eclecticvalue replied to claphands22's topic in General Discussion
I gave them a call awhile back and the book costs about $70. So I am not sure whether to buy it or not. Does anyone who have it think it is truly useful in this day and age? -

Warren Buffett's 20 Ticket Punch Card
eclecticvalue replied to Ben Graham's topic in General Discussion
I am already in my early 20's and I am already close to 20 punches :( . Aww shucks what will I do now? I am not too concerned and I think the whole point of the quote is to research your investment opportunities well. I think you could do it under 20 investments but that is only if you have a lot of money. Unlike me who runs only a few thousands of dollars. -
Thank you for starting this thread Shane, I am also an undergrad trying to break in. I would like to talk to you sometime. I'll pm you. Myth- that is why you have the right clients and if you have their trust then you should not be as stressed if the market is down. Unless it is like 2008. I dunno if we will see it again anytime soon.

Misterstockwell, this response is basically the reason why I want to manage money because I see many people who lose money in the market. Unfortunately, not everyone is fit to invest money. I would like to make a difference so they can have enough money to live comfortably. One question if you don't mind answering is why do you want to get out and why the market isn't the same anymore? Well that is my generation for you a lot of words have lost their meaning.

It seems kuppy is obsessed with Mongolia. Although he does have an interesting opportunity to make a killing. I would like to invest in his company but too bad it trades in Canada. I am sure he got his friends involved in the company. He has mentioned in the past his friends come to him to convince him to invest in random investments. So it is probably his turn.
