  1. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. There are some great stories about some well known and not so well known investors. The book covers many different generations/time frames, which made it interesting as a business history book as well. The two chapters I liked the most focused on Ross Perot and Karla Scherer. I wasn't familiar with the battles they had with GM and RP Scherer and they were great to read. Actually, after having read about Karla Scherer, I would love to meet her. She comes across as a very sharp and tough lady.
  2. thepupil, I think you make a good point. In addition, they seem to be doing a good job of swapping public securities for operating businesses. John Malone and Greg Maffei have done this same thing at Liberty to avoid paying taxes. Just another way of thinking about it.
  3. Talks at Google:Al Pittampalli: "Persuadable" I found this to be an interesting presentation. I hope some of you find it interesting as well or at least not a total waste of your time. ;)

  7. [amazonsearch]Dear Chairman: Boardroom Battles and the Rise of Shareholder Activism[/amazonsearch] This is a new book that was just highlighted in the CBS: Graham and Doddsville Newsletter. The description and subject matter sound like it will be a fun read. I pre-ordered it for my kindle, so I will report back after I have read some of it.

  10. https://fundooprofessor.wordpress.com/2015/12/28/hedonic-treadmill/ The hedonic treadmill, also known as hedonic adaptation, is the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes. According to this theory, as a person makes more money, expectations and desires rise in tandem, which results in no permanent gain in happiness.

  20. I have recently discovered Sebastian Thrun (thanks to Mr. Pabrai discussing driverless cars) and find his work to be very interesting. Here are a few of his video clips, but I would google more if you find them interesting. As you will learn he is a very interesting professor/engineer/inventor Driverless Car Video Better Ways to Teach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkneoNrfadk Sebastian’s Free Education for Computer Science https://www.udacity.com/ Sebastian’s Different Ideas http://www.cbsnews.com/news/google-glass-sebastian-thrun-on-newest-project-udacity/ Google Glass http://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2014-10-03/sebastian-thrun-studio-10-1002 I'm sure I'm late to the game on this one, but I thought I would share it with the board anyways. I wasn't able to find Sebastian's name on the board, so as always forgive me if you are familiar with him and have already seen the videos below.
