  1. After reading a few posts from other board members I felt like the amount of media exposure was completely different from one to the other. I for example, listen to about 20 minutes of media on the radio per day plus read the headlines on this board.

I have always felt that watching images on TV makes it more vivid and therefore transforms the information content to something more powerful; an emotional content. Therefore, I was wondering how people over here use the medias, and more importantly, how do they filter out the emotional part from the informational part?

  2. Recently, I was invited to sit in on Tim McElvaine's investor day in Vancouver. Tim briefily discussed the technology of 3D-Printing and the implications that could have to manufacturers. China, really seems under invested in technology because labour has always been so cheap.

    This is amazing.

KFRCanuk, thanks for posting the link.

You might like this one from TED.com:

3D Printing raw consumables needs to come down big time. My guess is that they'll try doing the old give the printer, sell the cartridges techniques. The problem is that, while 2D printing is somewhat expensive, it's still a ridiculously small amount of my budget so I don't restrain from using my 2D printer. On the other hand printing a 3D part is quite expensive and people might not want to spend 30$ of consumables to print shoes that are lower quality then retail.

  3. A mouthwash that selectively kills only the cavity-causing bacteria -- leaves the other bacteria alone:

Dental caries, commonly known as tooth decay or cavities, is one of the most common and costly infectious diseases in the United States, affecting more than 50 percent of children and the vast majority of adults aged 18 and older. Americans spend more than $70 billion each year on dental services, with the majority of that amount going toward the treatment of dental caries.

Hopefully P&G will not buy the patents...

  4. Here's an idea.

Bank of New York (BK).  You get a royalty on global growth in financial assets.  It's also a natural hedge against interest rates rising.

    And the price is right.

Funny just opened a position yesterday. It's a pretty nice business that trades at 10 times earnings.Buffet doubling it's stake made me pull the trigger.

Is that a WEB position?  It looks like it might be a Todd Combs or Ted Wechsler, as opposed to WEB.

I believe you are right, it's is the size of 130M so probably one of the two new guys.

  5. The SEFE video IS pretty amusing! Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Sure not, and it took me to this other video ... I could not stop smiling :)

Lol, anybody took a look at that multimeter voltage at 1:31 in the video. I hope they find a way to harness that incredible 0.008mV!

  6. Why didn't you simply employ a Martingale strategy as described by David Choe on the Howard Stern show? I have cashed out my investment accounts and am heading to Macau to make serious +EV. Will keep everyone updated!

Martingale incurs the risk of losing everything and theoretically require an infinite amount of money. I see is as picking pennies in fort of a roller coaster. I'd much prefer Kelly or half Kelly.

  7. In theory one should apply the Kelly formula to size it's investment to optimize returns. The problem is not determining the potential gain but the odds of winning (level of conviction). It's not because it's hard that one should not use it tough!
