  1. He's awesome. I'm a lifelong Knicks fan and feel like its been over a decade since they've given me something to be excited about. He needs to cut down on turnovers, but he reminds me of Rondo, but with a wider shooting range.
  2. I'm sure DTV was largely Weschler. DTV is pretty cheap, and I've been looking at it recently as well. I used to work for DTV (in their Denver corporate office) and think it is a very well run compan, and I've owned shares of it in the past. The company generates a lot of cash, but also has a lot of debt, and.their moat iis their stronghold on business accounts. Edit: sorry, I meant Weschler, not Combs.
  3. Still...that's like calling a bottom on the Dow at 10,000 and then it falling below 8,000 in the next couple months. My point is more that people shouldn't judge positions based on a very short term move in the stock price.
  4. I have to admit that after the the thread a few months ago celebrating Eric calling the bottom in BAC after a 1-2 day move, only to have BAC shares fall by another 30-40% afterwards, the optimism in this thread worries me a bit.

Apple's iPhone Business Alone Is Now Bigger Than All Of Microsoft: http://www.businessinsider.com/iphone-bigger-than-microsoft-2012-2#comment-4f2d503ceab8eacf7600002e Which of course makes this even funnier:
  6. Every time I hear of prem investing more $ in RIMM makes me want to sell my Fairfax shares. I know Prem has a good long term record, but I find myself disagreeing with nearly every stock investment he makes over the last fee years. Not sure if he's just trying to support a Canadian company, or if blackberry is still doing well in Canada and he doesn't realize that nobody is buying RIMM's crappg produce or what. He seems to have more faith in RIMM management than they have in themselves.
  7. People are underestimating the amount of traction Apple is gaining in business. I work for a mech company that supports/services a very large industry (automotive) and I'm seek/hearing about a lot of companies migrating to Apple products on a significant scale. The amount of companies I see starting to use iPads and switching to iPhones is large and growing quickly.
  8. For those that didn't click through to the Tweet above, it notes: Apple's profits ($13 billion) exceeded Google's entire revenue ($10.6 billion) for the quarter. Still think market share is that important?
  9. huh? You'd classify Apple as a momentum stock?
  10. Another amazing quarter. :)

er...this was the line at an Apple store in China last week at the iPhone 4S launch. I'd say the iPhone is doing just fine in China. http://hitechanalogy.com/wp-content/uploads/apple_store_xidan_joy_city_iphone_4s.jpg

One thing I'll give Microsoft credit for with Metro & Windows mobile is that at least it's not a blatant copy of Apple's iOS like Android is.

I know Windows 8 is still in the very early pre-beta stages, but everyone I've talked to who has used the developer's preview have said nothing but awful things about Metro UI (the Tiles). It sounds like you'll be able to disable Metro UI, but everyone seems to say it is a confusing mess of an interface.
  14. Is the a life-size wax statue of Sardar outside?
  15. I continue to think SHLD would be better as a portfolio of brands that are distributed nationally/globally than a retailer. At the very least, they should liquidate K-Mart.
  16. Wow..that site is great. I've been looking for something like that for years! Thanks so much. Looks like I was up 9.5% for 2011.
  17. What do you guys use to calculate your annual returns? Excel? Is there any good automated system out there? I tried using Morningstar, but it is really buggy (it randomly says i own thousands of shares of certain companies).
  18. Seems like a majority of K-Marts I've seen around the country are in crappy locations and are poorly maintained run-down buildings. I don't think it would be as easy to sell a lot of these locations as some people think. Real Estate is only worth what people will pay for it. I do think that K-Mart is an awful business that should be shut down and liquidated though.
  19. When are hedge funds not worrying about something? A majority of them actively look for reasons to try to cause panic.
  20. I've put off reading this forever it seems (probably because the size of it and I always find other books that sound more interesting), but everyone who reads it seems to recommend it. Is it really a must read type of book?
  21. Madison Square Garden is very close to being a pro sports play.
  22. Carl, I have no idea what you're talking about.
  23. As Netflix was buying back lots of stock at $225/share, Reed Hastings was selling millions of dollars of his own NFLX shares.
  24. WSJ review of the Nexus running Ice Cream Sandwich: http://online.wsj.co...3319145676.html So, they're now integrating more menu options onto the screens in apps (reducing the use of the Menu button), you can create folders by dragging apps onto other apps, and you can now press 2 buttons to capture screenshots. It's like Google's Android development team just sits around with iPhones and tries to replicate them. They've added some good features with Ice Cream Sandwich, but I wish they'd come up with something original, rather than constantly trying to clone the iPhone. I think this is the first step in trying to remove the use of the menu, search, and back buttons from Android devices (making it even more like the iPhone/iPad), as the buttons make Android tablets more difficult to use. Apple designed iOS to work on tablets and phones early on, while Android is now working backwards to try to make their OS compatible for both devices. Windows' phones are a huge mess and very unintuitive, but at least they're actually trying to come up with their own design.
