  1. I just think it's a bit strange that you post on a value investing board based on the ideals of investors like Warren Buffett. You are a short-term trader, that uses different systems, and use high frequency trading or whatever. I'm sure you still look to find value in stocks you buy, but just realize that the majority of people on this board (or, at least speaking for myself) look to purchase great companies at good prices, and hold them for the long-term. I don't have a problem with your investing style. I completely disagree with it personally, but you can of course trade however you wish. It seems obvious that there is going to be some conflict when you are posting ideas that fit into your investing style, which is a polar opposite from most of the people who visit this forum.

My guess is they're going to have a hard time getting businesses to upgrade to Windows 8 from Windows 7.
  3. I have yet to see anyone articulate what Apple is actually doing, including those who are very vocal supporters on the board.. I'm a bit confused about what you're asking here.
  4. Another great post ValueInv. I've been looking at that book, but read some mixed reviews. Worth reading?
  5. I got the 1st generation of the iPad and love it and still use it every day, but would love a faster version with a high resolution screen. Need to work on convincing the wife that we need the new iPad. :)
  6. Why? Would it matter. Most of the reviews have been lacklustre, and you pick one of the bunch that likes it. Cheers! I honestly don't think I've seen 1 bad/lackluster review of it so far. Mossberg is highly regarded as one of the most reputable technology writers/reviewers on the planet, which is why I posted his review. Would what matter? You sound like you were expecting more from the iPad, so I'm just curious what you were looking for.
  7. Walt Mossberg's review of the new iPad: http://allthingsd.com/20120314/new-ipad-a-million-more-pixels-than-hdtv/ Sounds like Apple knocked it out of the park. -I'm still curious what Parsad wanted in the new iPad.
  8. Regardless of his position at GS, he sounds like he's being candid and honest.
  9. Sold half my position in USB and BWLD, and sold my full position in DECK. I'm in the highest % of cash I've been in in the last few years. Having a hard time finding things to buy.
  10. I own some BAC, but one of my main issues with the company is that pretty much everyone I know who has been a BAC customer despises the company.
  11. Parsad, it's not I disagree with you saying over time, there is a good chance Apple will be different without Steve Jobs; it's that you are claiming the iPhone 4s and the new iPad are proof of Apple being different without Steve Jobs, which doesn't make sense (even if for no other reason that Jobs was most likely involved in the design of both products). It's also unlclear what you consider a 'game changer'. The retina screen, faster speed, & improvements to iOS & iCloud are pretty significant. What else would you like to see in the iPad? Technology like electrostatic touch sensitivity and holographic displays are still in their infancy and would most likely not offer anything useful to the user experience at this point. I'm not discounting Steve Jobs, but also think people underestimate Tim Cook, Jony Ive and the rest of Apple's management, as well as the processes, structure, and culture Jobs put in place.
  12. Go the the Mac App Store and check out the new iBooks Author app. Pretty cool.
  13. You keep saying this, but have no proof of this. There is of course a chance the margin of separation will decrease in the future, but the iPhone 4S and iPad 3 don't indicate this has started to happen (which is what you are trying to argue). Again, you don't seem to have a very strong understanding of apple and technology product life lifecycles. Read a few books on apple. -And great post valueInv.
  14. Why does every iteration of a product have to be a game changer though? This is the third generation of the iPad, and there has yet to be a competitor to come out with a tablet that even rivals the original iPad. The iPad itself was a game changer, and it's only been out a couple years. Now they have to continually improve it to make sure it remains the best tablet available, which they've accomplished so far.
  15. I set both the Kindle app and iBooks to sepia mode and think it's pretty easy on the eyes - not quite as good as the Kindle for straight reading, but I read for long periods of time on it.
  16. -Also, the iPhone 4S was the first product presentation after the Seve Jobs era. And after that presentation, you started a thread on here saying the 4S was an indication of what Apple will be like after Steve Jobs. And Apple sold around 40 million of the iPhone 4S last quarter, in what was one of the best quaters any business has ever had. And the other thing people don't seem to be talking much about is the update to Apple TV. This thing looks sweet. Might finally need to get one of these. Tough to go wrong at only $99. http://www.macworld.com/article/165810/2012/03/hands_on_with_apple_tv_software_update_5_0.html#lsrc.fb_mw http://images.macworld.com/images/article/2012/03/appletvsoftware4vs5-586-274765.png http://images.macworld.com/images/article/2012/03/appletv5iconview-586-274758.png
  17. It's pretty much what I expected, but still looks amazing with the retina screen. I have the original iPad and love it, and will consider trying to sell it and pick up one of these. Parsad, I don't really understand continually saying everything the company does now would've been different with Steve Jobs. You really think the new iPad would be much different with Jobs? I'm not sure you understand the production lifecycle of technology companies. Like the iPhone4S, the new iPad was most likely already largely planned out while Jobs was still around. Not sure what people expect them to do with every new version of a product (an iPad that turns in to a toaster?). I also think that the media and bloggers come up with such far fetched rumors about things that will be included in their products, that some people feel let down if stuff the media makes up aren't true.
  18. Perfect example of why I invest in 0 Chinese companies.
  19. The other side to that is that the price of oil may be quite overpriced. I've always failed to see the logo behind the argument that nat gas should trade at any specific spread to oil. We have an abundance of natural gas. It is supply vs demand, not historical spread nonsense.
  20. I liked his IBM share buyback example, and the section about the current valuation of gold.
  21. Barron's track record has also been pretty horrible over the last couple years.
  22. Why not just hold cash/bonds instead of holding equities and hedging them if he is bearish? Long term record aside, their investment results have been very disappointing over the last several years.
  23. I'm aware that DTV has used LVLT's network. I'm also aware that that hasn't resulted in a penny of profit for LVLT. I also don't see why a thread on Berkshire's filing's has to contain links to LVLT press releases.
  24. He is from Palo Alto, CA.
  25. He's awesome. I'm a lifelong Knicks fan and feel like its been over a decade since they've given me something to be excited about. He needs to cut down on turnovers, but he reminds me of Rondo, but with a wider shooting range.
