  1. Anyone who has invested in FFH in the past couple of weeks should be feeling pretty good about now. :)
  2. "Democrats celebrating their coup and super-spreading the virus is a case of killing someone who is attacking you? I am confused..." Xxxxxxxxx DooDiligence - Nominated for best put down for 2020!! :)
  3. I doubt there isn't a boat owner that hasn't heard the old joke, "A boat is a hole in the water you try to fill up with money". Gotta say there is a lot of truth in that, especially in Canada where the season is short. After boating since I was a kid and four boats I am now a retired boater. PS My next boat was going to be named "WOFTAM" * * Waste Of F**king Time And Money
  4. I have noticed this for years. Doesn't happen every time but more often than not, especially if there is good news. Who needs a crystal ball?
  5. With all the talk of a hard market I just had notification from my insurance broker that my car insurance jumped by 35% - no accidents, no traffic tickets, etc and I have been with the same company for years. Broker shopped it to another company and cut it back to about what it was last year. Others seeing things like this?
  6. I know this is not news and I don’t think this is the whole answer. But if everyone would simply wear a mask in the proximity to others from outside their immediate family, common sense tells us that it is by far the cheapest, the least complicated and potentially the most effective measure that the average person can take at this time to: a) protect oneself, and, b) protect others. It is just common sense and a simple first aid technique until we come up with more effective measures. The fact that anyone could disagree or politicize this is just mind boggling. Other than a slight inconvenience what does anyone have to lose? If some refuse to cooperate in protecting the rest of us, then mandate it just the same as we mandate against drinking and driving to protect others who are on the road. The penalties for ignoring the rules should be substantial. Here for example, if you do not self isolate after travel the fine is $1,000 first offence, $2,000 second offence, $10,000 third offence. Fines for refusing to wear a mask could be similar. Contract tracing is also most important. Here if you go to a restaurant or bar, for instance, you have to leave your contact information.
  7. I have trouble with criticizing the discussion of politics on the board. Anyone who doesn’t want to is not forced to participate. Just ignore it. Politics is a part of life and it does have some impact on investing. The discussion does have some effect on how we view others on the board, which is not necessarily a bad thing. If following the political posts of a board member, leads one to the conclusion that the poster is batshit crazy, that will effect the credibility you give to his investment posts. No one is forced to participate. It is mind broadening to the extent that it gives participants a view of how those on the other side of politics think. Furthermore, if it is deleted much of the discussion will likely creep into other topics. The Covid topic is an example. How do you restrain discussing politics when the President himself has gone out of his way to politicized the disease? And - I guess my last remark is an example of how politics can even insert itself into any discussion.
  8. I looked. And there is almost no criticism of Trump in Feb/March. He is the President of the United States. He's going to get criticism (even if he did everything right). But blatant Trump-bashing was exceptionally rare on this thread. My guess is that you are recalling conversations from other threads. No need to bash Trump, the man is fully capable of speaking for himself this subject: “Just the other day, they came out with a statement that 85% of the people that wear masks catch it” “A lot of people say masks are not good, I’ll tell you who those people are, waiters.” "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, if any' https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/pdfs/mm6936a5-H.pdf Please check page 1261 - table at top of page for "Reported use of cloth face covering or mask 14 days before illness onset" Mask use for Covid Positive group: Often: 14.4%; Always 70.6% (Total of Often + Always use of mask 85%) Mask use for control (negative) group: Often: 14.5%; Always 74.2% (Total of Often + Always use of mask 88.7%) I know what the numbers were for a tiny study of 150 people. But that study does not indicate that "that 85% of the people that wear masks catch it" [Covid-19].

  10. Are we not simply seeing the expected Second Wave repeating the path of the first wave as it progresses from east to west, through Europe towards North America as we move from summer into winter? The only good news I see here is that it seems we have been able to treat the victims more effectively thus reducing the death rate.
  11. Trump's right hand, Hope Hicks has Covid-19. Showed symptoms last night and has been in close contact with Trump & staff. Trump waiting for test results. May have to quarantine.
  12. Our resident nihilist awakens. I'll send a postcard to my brother-in-law in Vietnam to share the bad news. He keeps saying they don't have Covid there. Just for Othopa's info our small Canadian Province has had 57 cases, 57 recovered cases, zero active cases, zero hospitalizations, zero community spread, and zero deaths. Applying US figures we should have had 100 deaths to date.
  13. Viking said... “your leader lies pretty much every time he speaks” is not the same as saying "everything he says is a lie". 1) You misquoted Viking. You do this frequently and I have corrected you previously when you have misquoted me as well. If you use quotes to quote someone than do it accurately and don’t try to twist what they say. 2) You changed the meaning of what he said 3) If I have to explain the difference again, here goes... When Trump makes his speeches, most of them contains at least one lie. One would have to be pretty gullible to think otherwise*. But you said Viking said "everything he says is a lie" and that is quite different. * I believe fact checkers have now documented over 20,000 lies he has told - search it yourself.
  14. Good luck Viking in trying to get straight answers. Trump supporters do not like to answer direct questions. I don’t know if they refuse to confront reality or what the reason is. However, they have a habit of changing the subject and deflecting as much as they can. Or they will misquote you contorting the question so they can come up with an answer. For example: You said... “your leader lies pretty much every time he speaks”. Greg twists that into you said "everything he says is a lie". Certainly different statements. Anyone who listens to Trump’s rants knows that he rarely makes a speech that don’t contain some lies.
  15. Downplay the deaths all you want. But do you realize that - 200,000 deaths - is about half the number of Americans killed in WWII? Just keeping things in perspective. Most people would find this horrific.
  16. “1.) your leader lies pretty much every time he speaks - so nothing he says can now be trusted. Please read this point a second and third time. It is REALLY important especially when dealing with a pandemic... for those of you who seem to have forgotten :-) 2.) your leader does not believe in science. Please read this point a second and third time. It is also REALLY important when dealing with a pandemic. 3.) your leader muzzles / intimidates / politicizes the health apparatus normally charged with managing the pandemic. This is also really important then dealing with a pandemic. 4.) your leader refuses to work with all states and local governments to create a unified approach to dealing with the pandemic (communication, actions etc). This is really important. 5.) your leader is unable to work with other political parties to create a unified approach to dealing with the pandemic. This is also really important. 6.) your leader refuses to champion the two activities that will have the greatest impact in controlling the virus: wear a mask and social distance. This is also really important. 7.) your leader is not compassionate: in the US hundreds of thousands of people have died and many hundreds of thousand will die in the coming months... the virus is a humanitarian disaster and Trump is focussed primarily on... getting himself reelected. His actions in dealing with the pandemic are informed by whether or not they are going to get him reelected. Despicable is the only way to describe this.” Funny how when confronted with irrefutable facts such as the above, Trump supporters seem to disappear or change the subject. But if they do comment the excuse is ‘... well, Biden would be worse’ even though none of the above 7 points seem apply to Biden.
  17. The U.S. has 200,000 dead. Canada has 9,200. Factor in the difference of population and the US death rate is over double that of Canada - 2.6 times to be exact. The reason Canada’s Covid rate is now starting to increase is probably no great surprise. It is likely due to the change in weather as Canada heads into what Canadians call “The Flu Season”. The Fall cold and wet season is just starting to settle in and will likely get a lot worse before it gets better. The question may now be, will the Northern States see the same type of increase in Covid cases? Is Canada’s increasing rate a precursor of what is coming as we transition from summer into fall and winter? One might also surmise that a certain amount of the increase may well be also due to trans-border crossings. While the border is closed to tourism, there are still thousands (tens of thousands) truckers and other essential workers crossing the border every day. I believe that half the U.S. states are still seeing cases trending up. You can't share a 3,000 mile border with a country that has a widespread disease and not expect it to spread over that border. Lock-downs, contact tracing and travel restrictions can work very, very well, but it is simply not practical in many locations.
  18. Yes! Alfred E. Neuman for President in 2020 !
  19. I have always thought that I buy shares and they drop 50%, then I have nothing to show for the 50% I lost. If I buy a house and the value drops by 50%, I still have a place to live, just as I did before the price drop. And real estate usually appreciates in value over time. Just my way of thinking.
  20. When you stop and think about it, 18% average increase in one year - over the whole country - is fairly substantial. Anyone know average price increase since Turner made his prognostication in 2012?
  21. If the virus is still around next year the spring of 2021 could be another big step up for single family home prices. Crazy times. Crazy indeed. Shows how the devil is in the details. At first glance, one would have assumed that Covid would have a serious detrimental effect on residential real estate and construction. But now we see people scrambling to get out of condos, apartments and city centers and looking for less densely populated areas. With an infectious disease on the loose, who wants to live in a building with perhaps several hundred other people? Also, the movement towards ‘work from home’ has quickly accelerated changing attitudes towards residential neighbourhoods. Many now no longer need to live within major cities or indeed even the suburbs. Many are looking at Covid-19 as a warning that this pandemic may not be an isolated incident or that a cure may not be just around the corner. Because of this, many are looking for single family homes or duplexes and smaller communities are becoming very attractive. This movement is in part to blame for the explosion in the price of materials. In the spring, manufacturers and suppliers felt that the market would be slow this year when the opposite has happened thereby leading to serious lumber and other shortages. Priced a 2x4 or 2x6 lately?
  22. Average Canadian house prices increased 18% in the past year. It is now 8 years since Garth Turner made the prediction that the Canadian housing bubble was about to burst. Prices in the past 12 months increased from a low of 5.3% in Alberta (which is struggling with low oil prices) to a high of 31% in P.E.I. Last month set a record for the most home sales ever, 33 per cent more homes changed hands in August 2020 than the same month last year. Glad that I ignored Mr. Turner’s warnings as prices in our area have been increasing by about 15% yearly and double that this past year. Our situation is somewhat unique as we experienced strong immigration for several years and now combined with that, we have been able to control Covid-19. No hospitalizations, no community spread and no deaths. People from other parts of Canada and elsewhere are buying and building here, sight unseen and realtors can barely keep up with the traffic. A realtor will walk through a listing videoing the home for the customer who makes an offer at the end of the tour. One side effect of this influx of people is that we have had a couple of relatively massive budget surpluses that I believe is probably due to wealthy people becoming residents.
  23. Self test for Covid 19 1) Pour a shot of whisky, gin or rum into a glass. 2) See if you can smell it. 3) If you can smell it then drink it. 4) If you can taste it, it is reasonable to assume you are currently free of the virus. I tested myself nine times last night and I was virus free each time, thank goodness. I will test myself again today because I have developed a headache which can also be a symptom.
  24. "President Donald Trump on Thursday mocked Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden for wearing a face mask even as the US continues to lead the world in coronavirus cases, with more than 6 million infections. Speaking to a largely mask-less crowd in Pennsylvania, Trump asked his supporters if they know "a man that likes a mask as much" as Biden. "It gives him a feeling of security," the President said. "If I was a psychiatrist, I'd say this guy has some big issues." "
  25. “Yep. I can clearly see people with agenda or Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) twisting facts.” Well this is only common sense! We all know that a President would never twist facts, exaggerate, or lie. I mean, remember dear old George Washington and the cherry tree? 200 years from now they will still be telling stories about Pres Trump who was so honest that he couldn’t tell a lie. Covid-19 - it just disappeared 100 years later, just like he said. And there is no truth to the story that it took a whole book to list all of the lies. This book never existed... “Donald Trump and His Assault on Truth: The President’s Falsehoods, Misleading Claims and Flat-Out Lies” published by Scribner. Damn Lefties, they all have TDS
