I'm thinking dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki still give Truman the lead! Cheers!

2025 Annual Report - Greg Abel's first annual letter
Parsad replied to backtothebeach's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
I think you guys have to remember that this is no longer Buffett's Berkshire, but will slowly become more akin to other great founder companies that are simply just corporations. The standards and culture may remain a lot longer, but the "teacher/master" is no longer giving lessons to his partners. That was a blip in time/history that will never come back! We are all extremely fortunate to have witnessed it and been able to participate in it, learn from it, be better people hopefully from it! The letter was fine. It was trying to confirm, convey and reassure...pretty much what all annual corporate letters should do. The masterful lessons in insurance accounting, accounting engineering, finance, leadership, friendship, loyalty, respect, integrity and honesty are not part of the curriculum anymore. What you've learned, you have...try and pass it on to your children, family, friends, associates and community. We are all the progeny of Berkshire culture! That's it...the rest is now gone! Cheers! -
Well, we can forget about the Trump-Epstein files for a while! Cheers! https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/israel-iran-attack-02-28-26-hnk-intl

God damn it Cubs...you're one hell of a foil! Definitely doesn't get boring here. Cheers!

Question about the bid for IDBI...are they doing this through Fairfax or Fairfax India? Doesn't indicate in the various articles out there. It's about an $8B bid, so I'm just wondering how they are going to finance this through FIH. Cheers!

Yes. Always have to look past the challenges and at the beauty! Cheers!

Yup, Florida isn't crazy! Just medicated. Cheers!

If you say so. Cheers!

Yeah, I think most regions are holding their own. Seems as though many people are supporting their communities and country. So the fallout isn't as bad as many thought it might be. We all eat, spend, enjoy our cities, states/provinces, country right? I've probably never eaten at so many restaurants around British Columbia in a single year...leaving nice tips at them all! Restaurant industry was struggling around North America before hand, so any support locals can give is always appreciated. Cheers!

I would agree with that Dealmaker...maybe the 99% is a bit high, but I would also suggest most of us alive today/born today, will be dependent on those two parameters. My father and grandfather didn't have the access to medicine that I have, or necessarily the food quality, lack of relative stress...etc. Yet, I have much of the same genetic makeup and similar health issues at a similar age. The difference has been the surgeons and doctors looking after me 30-50 years later compared to them. One of my best friends from high school is fighting ALS in Victoria. 56 years old, looked after himself, healthy guy, happy go lucky personality...his 16 year old son is going to slowly lose his father over the next couple of years in the most regrettable fashion. In this case, even medicine and technology will have limited effect! C'est la vie! We come in alone, we go alone...how and when, we have no idea! Cheers!

LOL! They also don't travel to "shithole" countries like Trump said...LOL! But they'll ship bananas and guns from them. Cheers!

With warm focaccia and balsamic vinegar...sure! But not on my flax seed, fresh baked, whole loaves right from my favorite baker...gotta have great butter with that and a nice cup of coffee! I also order my jams from London every year at Christmas time...Fortnum & Mason. Order this one...you'll devour it! https://www.fortnumandmason.com/highgrove-organic-raspberry-blackberry-preserve Also, what's the point of living longer eating healthy...I'm not going to set any longevity marks, so they might as well be fun years instead! Cheers!

A centrist in Canada is not the same thing as a centrist in the U.S. It's like when you order a steak in the U.S. and Canada...medium means "medium" here...medium in the U.S. means "well done"! So not trying to punish anyone...I just like my steak medium! Cheers!

It does make a huge difference Richard...especially if you buy good bread. I don't enjoy any other butter. Cheers!

And I thought that guy already made an Iran Nuclear Deal...that was killed by the guy below him! LOL! Cheers!

LOL! No intention on going anywhere in the United States for the foreseeable future. Will travel to Europe and through Canada every year...not going to the U.S...period! Most of my family doesn't go to the U.S. either. Niece and nephews U.S. tournaments...most have not been going. My buddy who is MAGA gets me my stock of Kerry Gold Irish Butter from Washington State whenever he goes shopping! Can't get Kerry Gold in BC...just the best better in the world! Cheers!

Ilhan Omar's guest arrested for protesting during State of the Union...by standing up and not sitting down! Hilarious! Apparently according to the article and quote by a Capitol police spokesperson..."It is illegal to disrupt the Congress and demonstrate in the congressional buildings.” Hmmm...so what about January 6th? Pardons all around for the illegal, insurrectionist mob! Those fuckers weren't just standing...many had weapons...destroying property, offices, papers...injuring Capitol Police...attempting to enter the Congressional chamber with politicians in there. Cheers! https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/ilhan-omar-guest-arrested-standing-190925496.html

+1! Yup...it's like the new normal for deficits happened after the pandemic. Fiscal responsibility went out the window...now they blame it on the tariffs and the economic environment. We can't grow our way out...so let's spend our way out. At least Carney is trying to expand trade and reduce non-private sector jobs. I hope he takes a page from Martin & Chretien as things get better! Cheers!

Epstein takes out Gates and Summers...release the damn files without redactions! Humble pie and cancel culture for these douche bags! How does one of the smartest men in the last 50 years not know that he should not be hanging around with a convicted pedo after the conviction? He didn't look it up or something according to Gates! https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/25/business/larry-summers-retire-harvard-epstein https://nationalpost.com/news/world/bill-gates-jeffrey-epstein Buffett warned everyone...don't straddle the line if you don't want your family to read about you in the news the next day! I'm also sure Hillary is wishing she had the balls to leave her Bill like Melinda Gates did...now suck it up and deal with it! Buffett always admired Melinda Gates. Cheers!

Yup! Same with provincial governments as well. Look at what the fuck Eby is doing here in BC! And you can't blame the party politics, because Horgan ran a surplus as NDP leader...so what gives? Bad leadership and management! Never being able to say "No" to spending! Trying to appease everyone and everything, instead of the welfare of the province or country! Cheers!
-
I agree with that too. I also think all levels should pay their fair amount of taxes. This special interest catering by parties is what has been detrimental to society! Cheers!

Actually, you can. It's been done. Jean Chretien and Paul Martin balanced the budget, reduced debt to GDP and maintained social programs while growing the economy...Chretien, a hard left liberal and Martin, a centrist liberal. Demographics and global economics can eff up that trajectory and often does, but that's why a healthy private sector involved with social programs (healthcare, education, etc) combined with controlled immigration (changes in taxpayers to retirees ratios, temporary workers, skilled workers), can address those issues. By no means is it easy...in fact it's damn hard...but it has been done. I'm hoping Carney is of a similar mold! Cheers!
