  1. anybody know off the top of their head? thanks
  2. when did he add the shares of FFH?
  3. hey sanj, I did mean 40% of my FFH postion within my overall portfolio. Not 40% of my portfolio is the one position :P I have held FFH as high as 50% weight at 275, However, I meant I took 40% of an regular weight position for me. Usually I would hold 10-15 stock divided equal. So 40% of 10% is only a 4% weight of total assets. I have a lot of cash and equivelents now. I am hoping FFH gets down to 330 or so, then I would "back the truck up" thanks for looking out for me!
  4. I am taking a 40% position now, hoping for it to go down more!
  5. I see an oppertunity here I figure if there bond portfolio avg. 5% than you have 500M in gains on 9.7B stock porfolio is 4.2B, thus 10% gain is 400M, 20% is 800 mill I am seeing underwriting as flat as we hurricanes were minimal. BVPS from 45-66 based on equity RoR from Q2. I did account for the increase in commons for the equity issue. I used 19,688.000 as my common float. Thoughts?
  6. Dazel, I would be extremely interested in your detailed thought on their Q3 and FY earnings if you would mind. Much appreciated!
  7. I think initally FFH share would react negative to this increase, even thought it is a great oppertunity longterm. It would seemed to the uneducated that they raise capital to purchase an emerging market asset (more risk). If we are lucky enough do we get 2 great buying oppertunities in two quarters? If it sells off, I'd be loading up on shares for sure.
  8. hey guys, If FFH trasnfered the ORH shares to northbridge would it still be shown in this filling as a consolidated statement? or is this just for FFH the holdco? thanks
  9. Would it be possible to use the holdco cash plus dividends from crum and northbridge to buy ORH and then the 500M from ORH for the chinese purchase?
  10. Dont forget by next quarter the holdco. will have another round of dividend and interest income paid to them via the investment portfolio. If I remember off the top of my head that was somewhere in the mid-150-170Million mark? Add that to the mix and your third quarter cash is 750 Mill +/- Underwriting gains with the assumption no bonds/stock were sold. I would be comfortable with that.
  11. FFH debt: 7.75% due April 15, 2012 8.25% due October 1, 2015 7.75% due June 15, 2017 7.375% due April 15, 2018 8.30% due April 15, 2026 7.75% due July 15, 2037
  12. good eyes, I didnt even notice where my calls were as I tend to follow the underlying. Earnings are out tonight...place your bets!
  13. 50% FFH 25% CAT (closed today) 25% Cash
  14. I agree Parsad! With this news combined with the equity portfolio...FFH is now "too cheap" for me to wait. I started buying last this afternoon. If she goes down further...I'll get lots of calls!
  15. Anybody know of the top of their heads? I am expecting some nice gains on the equity and bond credit spread contractions over the last quarter.
  16. I disagree.... Somehow when I play the ball comes up GREEN! ???
  17. SEE THE "FAIRFAX YTD" thread for your US holdings. its already there
  18. Welcome! as for the investments, FFH has their majoirty of their money in the quality you mention. They own almost 1\2 billion worth of JNJ. Also, they own WFC, BNI, GE and so forth. you can find the list on the SEC website. I forget what it is called..a 10K? or something as such. Someone here will most likly have the link! cheers
  19. It is probably rallying on the fact it was financial clarity. Im still holding for now...but id love to load up if she comes back down
  20. Would people put a limit on how much FFH they own as a % of overall holdings? if so, what are you comfortable with? thanks!
  21. I know the entire muni market received a downgrade from S&P early last month? FWIW with rating agencies these days.
  22. Can you guys clarify this part for me. Prem said that any gain in the stock portfolio will go directly to shareholders equity. THUS, current stock portfolio is approx. 20B, current shareholders equity is 5B. If the stock part doubles, that would increase the shareholders equity by 20B or 400%? So the shares BVPS should infact go up 400% if this happens?
  23. I wrote this down. I took it as prema saying they were averaging down and their final average cost is 14$. They did not buy any sub 10$ as they run out of money (for that position)
